Yeah, I'm sure they made the VW Golf GTI '01 faster than it really is. I have watched it drag race a Rover 25, which is a small family car by the way, and it beat it. And to humilate the Golf even more it was the lowest spec Rover 25 with an automatic gearbox!
Old cars loose Horsepower then one you win in the game comes as if you got it brand new...
As for what

But certainly, the Honda S2000 is one many folks over at PD have driven; some PD employees probly even own S2000's in real-life. Since Polyphony Digital is in Japan, many of the cars they get to test-drive will happen to be Japanese, and so follows the logic that these cars get a "better" shot in the game. But i don't know if i totally agree with this blanket-statement or not, yet.
I am under no doubt that PD have given the cars of Japan a slight edge, a few examples in the racing cars, the Peugeot 905, is regarded as one of the fastest cars to race at la sarthe, yet the car fails to dazzle in the game, despite a very low weight, a decent amount power and revs to an impressive 12,500 RPM, the car is just not as quick as the Minolta 88C-V, or the Nissan R92CP, why? the gear change times.
Now I did a Wiki of the Peugeot, and there is no mention of gear shifting problems, apparently the (905) 1990 was nothing special but in 91, and 92 the car was upgraded and was much faster, the version of the 905 in the game is the 1992 version the quickest, so I wonder, are these shift times really true, why is the 88C-V so much quicker at changing gear.
What about the Tommy Kiara ZZ-II it appears to be the fastest road car bar the Caddilac Cien, (which oddly also has pathetic shifting times,
funny that) is the ZZ-II really this fast compared to all the other cars?
Is this the case, I am not certain, perhaps I am just reading into things to much, I certainly seem to think that PD have given certain cars an edge.
It doesn't only seem odd that the Volvo was picked, actually it's quite an understandable choice as it was very popular, but the really odd thing is the weight of the car that isn't the dry weight of the car - but the maximum weight the axles can carry. The one in the game weighs 1890 kg whereas the real one only weighs around 1350 kg. So much of a car that could have been a serious threat to some Japanese cars of the eighties... now is that just a coincidence?
I think were onto something here...
