Cars that didn't make it

Ive always wanted to drive that car when i had GT2 but i never knew how to get it ...

What is it like to drive?

It's not easy. For one thing, the GT90 weighs 3,200 pounds and you can't make it weigh less, so even tho it's got modifiable downforce and huge tires, you're always wrestling to keep it going. The trick is to slow down before you get into corners, then gradually give some gas instead of just flooring it; you can't drive it with as much abandon like you can a Nissan R390 or some other GT1. Suspension and limited-slip tuning is crucial, too. Once it's straight you can hammer it because it has 727 horsepower.

A lot of folks think it sucks but I've been able to win some high-paced races in my GT90 (back when I explored GT2 a year and a half ago that is).

While turning one of my saves into a completely rally based garage, I came across the Lancia Y.

I was skeptical at first because:
1. It's an FF (FF and rally just don't seem to go well at all for me)
2. It's pretty underpowered
3. I assumed it wouldn't be able to race modify

Well i buy it just to see, and I can race modify it (It looks very nice). I go to the arcade mode disc, select my favorite downhill track (Pikes Peak of course), and test the little thing. To my surprise it works quite well. It doesn't understeer as bad as most of the FFs, and it doesn't hesitate to oversteer when i want it to. Overall, with a bit of tuning, The Lancia Y is a great car in my opinion.

EDIT:
On the topic of rally, I just tested a fully modified renault clio sport on Pikes Peak hill climb, and it works very well. Unlike most MRs, the oversteer is easily handled, but it has trouble oversteering when i want it to.

Another car i just tested was the Suzuki Pikes Peak Cultus on Pikes Peak hill climb. Plenty of power and handling to go around, but where is my oversteer!? The Cultus definitely needs some settings tweaked.

Yes, I've raced the Clio Sport in some rallies! It does quite well surprisingly, the only prob I remember having with it was you always had to consider "okay, I wanna take this corner this way...but will I spin?" It was mostly the times when the car became airborne or hit a bump near a corner that I'd get nervous.

Till this day, I never got around to driving the Lancia Y! I was always curious about it. The Alfa 145 is another great Italian FF car that doesn't exhibit too much understeer (in GT2, anyways).

While searching for potential rally cars, I noticed that there are tons and tons of cars that would be awesome for rally, but cannot use dirt tires. The mustang is a perfect example. One of them has an awesome orange racing modification that would look awesome for rally.

My next few cars that i'm going to try is a fully modified mondeo, focus rally, and rs200 (but you can't race modify it :grumpy:)

I think someone already said it, but I sorely miss the big-bore Corvette C2s.

In my opinion, it would have looked great in high-resolution GT3 graphics, and in GT4 they gave us the earlier 1963 Split-Window Corvette, which, while still awesome and even rarer, lacked the brawn that the 427 or even 396 (never featured) C2s offered. For power, there was the 1963 Corvette Z06 Race Car, but it couldn't handle at all...

How I miss challenging contemporary sports cars in a classic 'Vette...

That's a great observation there, superberkut. I didn't know GT2 has a different version of a C2 from GT4. I, too, had a brief C2 period a couple years back. Boy they drive like crap at first, but wait till you get the underparts set up properly... I also love going up against newer sports cars in a classic. 👍

Cars I really miss are the small kei SUV's. Who can resist off roading in a Mitsubishi Pajero Mini? :)

Now we got a crappy large pajero, the old one and there's only a rally edition available. GT2 had the Pajero in so many colors, and each of them had a two-tone available. (The used Pajero.)

I never had so much fun in a slow car. Too bad we can only play with this car on GT2. :grumpy: I miss all the cars that I learned about from GT2, especially the info pages that came with them. Lets you learn about cars you never heard of. (FIAT Punto GT, Citroen Saxo, etc, I never even heard of them.)

Very true there.

I also miss the Aston Martin DB6, a British classic that sounded wonderful. Although you could ony upgrade its horsepower by a measly 63...

Yeah, the DB6 is such a novelty..I was also shocked that you can't add much power....there's only a handful of races you can competitively enter a DB6. :grumpy:

Cool, another Pajero fan! The thing I loved about the Kei cars in GT2 is smoking some "real" cars. In a Kei...you only need to tap the brakes for a moment! and then you're out of that corner while heavier cars are still struggling!

Yeah it is. Welcome Skyline dude. Welcome to GT planet.

Is there...no racing modifications in GT3/4?.. :scared: Is there any possibility to modify the car look in these games?.. I'm sorry I just never tested them :guilty:

No mods in GT3 at all. In GT4 you can attach a wing kit to a passenger car, but no full race mods. :(:(:(

thanks i got more dont you worry i havent even been to the used car lots yet.
yeah its a shame that the racing modificaton didnt make it into GT3/GT4 i reallt liked making cars have the stickers on them.

The problem is that it would take Polyphony Digital forever to release their games if they had to add RM's to even a portion of the cars in GT4. I read it took one to three days to draw & program each car in GT2, but in GT4...it's more like 3 weeks! :nervous: At that rate, we'd probably just be getting GT4 now instead of 2 1/2 years ago! By the time GT5 would be released, we'd have inhabited Mars.

True Very true but it would be nice if they re released gt2 with GT5 Graphics

I been saying that for years now..how it would be sweet to drive a hi-res version of Red Rock Valley, Rome Nite, and Grindelwald. Tahiti Road Course would be righteous, too; in GT2, Tahiti is the crappiest looking track in my opinion. :)

Altho personally, High Speed Ring in GT4 is kind of a let-down...it doesn't look or feel as cool to drive as it does in GT1 & 2, know what I mean? :grumpy:

yeah i know Super speedway and Test course where better on GT2 than on GT4. Must agree with you a hi def gt2 would be off the hook. Went for a drive on gt2 and was suprised of how good pikes peak was they i reckon they should bring back pikes peak aswell.

I'm with this all the way, I would buy that game no matter how deep I have to dig in my pockets. All it needs is a few newer tracks, but still GT2 like physics, so it would still be very fun. Also I would like that special track you only see on liscense tests. And finally, they should add a few newer cars, because the selection of cars in GT2 is already better than the rest of the gran turismos IMO. Ahh we can dream, can't we?
