champcar: Back on track

The IRL doesnt have very much international commercial appeal.......if the indy 200 didnt exist...the IRL would be no-where. i know Champcars will survive...so much fan support out for the series

I think you mean the Indy 500. ;) And yes that is pretty much the only thing feeding Tony George's... ideals. Though nowadays even the Brickyard 400 is bigger than the Indy 500.

I think the biggest issue is the drop in tv audiences for Champ Car, and this is where big bucks come in... Unfortunately Nascar and IRL are doing much better in that field. Oval racing really seems to be the big thing in America.

I don't really think this deal with Spike TV will really help them much in that aspect...

hmmm oops.......man im stupid

well the full 18 cars have been announced with walker racing fielding a car for mario haberfeld. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

whoever said that their wouldnt be 18 cars is well and trully wrong now. but i think we all knew that we would get the required number of cars. no wonder tony george didnt take up the $100000 bet with kalkoven about the number of cars ;)

and the tv deal in america aint good......should be on speed or espn. eventually they will

but the international tv deal has been annouced and for the aussies (me and Blake), channel 10 will cover it once again and will be host broadcaster for the gold coast race.

and yes...tony georges ideals . ha, what a laugh. whatever happened to the all american racing series where forgien drivers cant buy their ride and the manufacturers would be all american......tony, can you say Japan

I'm Australian too! But i just don't participate in this thread.:D I hate how the international racing is on late heap's late in Australia.

i know ur an aussie...sorry not to include you :P and you have a cool avatar

but yeah...the late night races SUCK!!! the champcar races used to be on after "big brother up late" which finished at 1:30am every night. channel 10 better get their priorities straightened. the funny thing was that even though the races were on late, they had a larger audience viewing than big brother    stupid big brother

yeah, big brother suck's!
I think a couple of years back the Laguna seca race was on during the day sometime. I didn't really pay attention to it because I wasn't really a car racing fan back then.

they used to show the champcar races in the following saturday after the race....but now that channel ten covers the gAyFL :P they arnt doin that anymore

Meh, why don't they show it after the footy? Or before? Or they could just have the footy on channel 9 or 7 again.

if all the footy was on channel nine..............there would be no room for rugby league....the greatest game of all.

less than a week to go

but the international tv deal has been annouced and for the aussies (me and Blake), channel 10 will cover it once again and will be host broadcaster for the gold coast race.
I would have trouble watching it on any ither chanel...I can't wait, 5 days!

I think i'll have to buy some more video tapes!

cant wait for monday night.... its gonna rock...who do u think will win? tracy...Jourdain was so close last year....Junquiera, vasser, bourdais or my favourite TAGLIANI!!!!

I hope Carpetier does well. He had a pretty disapointing for most of last year. But he still ended up 5th. But I think it will be Tracy or Bruno.

yeah i hope carpentier does well......but what about wilson? he is in a competitive team that now has a lola chassis......f3000 champion.....and put jos verstappen to shame in f1.......just fell short of WEBBER though  .....i reakon wilson could do well this year.

what would also be interesting to see would be the new guys that no one has ever heard of....phillipe, allmendinger, gonzales etc. plus it would be interesting to see hunter-reay and vasser in their new team....and someone give SALO and SERVIA a ide...they deserve it

Yeah Mika could do well this season i think...if he he had a ride. Bring on Monaday night!

i have seen it and its an improvement...i like it. the old site was outdated......but i dont think there is a COLRS this year :(

Yes, the Forsythe Boys aren't doing to badly, 2nd, 6th and 8th.

From http://www.champcarworldseries.com

QUOTES FROM TOP THREE FINISHERS:

ALEX TAGLIANI: So far, so good. We also made a major change in the car between practice and qualifying, because we were so confident that the car was really good this morning that we could have just improved it. I think we made it a little bit worse and we had to work really hard to get this lap in. So I think tomorrow we should go back to what we had this morning and I'm pretty sure that we'll have a fair shot to try to get the pole.

PAUL TRACY: Well, I think it shows everybody is out here, there's no joking around. It's gotten real serious real quick. We've all had a lot of time off and a lot of time to think about what we need to do this year. A lot of the guys like even just to give you an example, Mario Haberfeld had not driven a car until two days ago and he came out ready to go today. So a lot of guys are very motivated. I think the series looks good.

BRUNO JUNQUEIRA: I feel really good. I think the PacifiCare Newman/Haas team did a great job during the winter. We had such a long winter, but you're still working hard and it's pretty good to come up in the first day of competition and show up, very competitive and end up the day in the front. That was a great result. I think that the race is very close between everybody.

Anyway, good to see everything seems to be setting itself up for the soon to begin season. Everyone seems to be pretty close (within 2 and a half seconds) except for last placing T. Marques. Looks like being a fairly close race and hopefully a fairly close season.

Blake

EDIT: It seems there is no COLRS this season. That is quite a dissapointmant, but at least there is FF1. What do you think of this Race Director thing, do you think it would be worth paying for. I doubt it really, especially since it will be during the middle of the night for us, but other sports do that for free so it doesn't help champcar any by charging for it.

Two competitors who I hope will have a very fierce battle to the line.

Yes they do look better, though the Forsythe Machine is pretty similar to last years.

Good to see Tags doing well, Carpentier doing allright I think starting in 7th for the race. Anyhow all that's left now is the race.

The push to pass system is also a great return, increaseing the overtaking is only a good thing. there is nothing more thrilling than seeing overtaking on a street circuit, with concrete surrounding you. And The359, not just 1 car has been added, 4 new ones have forsythe, rusport, pkv and rocketsport....with more to come soon as other teams like mi-jack, herdez, rahal etc.etc. having to release their car list shortly. New tv deal annouced, and drivers such as hunter-reay and salo havent stated their rides yet and they have stated that they have one lined up. cant wait
Hey i heard about this and i heard if you press the button you get a 50hp boost for 60 seconds i was wondering if you knew how many times you can press this button in a race?

You can press it as many times as you like for a TOTAL of 60 seconds.
I'll be watching, what time is it on?
It's on at 11:30 pm 'till 1:30 am. I'll be watching and taping.
(DONT GO TO ANY MOTORSPORT WEBSITES TOMORROW.....INCLUDING THIS SITE. YOU MAY FIND OUT ON THE RESULT)
