Master Class
April 9th 2015

Today I'll be talking with C. Van Beek today about the 2015 Formula Cup Season.

Thanks for talking with me today Cooper.

"My pleasure Seth."

"First question with the first race of the season getting closer who do you think has the best chance of winning in Grand Valley?"

"N. Fear, B. Deer, T. Roush, A. Herrera ,and myself but i think its going to come down to the start of the race."

"Is this your first time driving a FGT? If so then how do you expect to finish this season?"

"No I've got some good experience in the FGT. I've raced the FGT enough times to know what I'm doing. For my finish to the season I'm expecting to finish within the top 3 of the championship."

"Final question what track do you feel you have the best chance of winning or getting a podium on?"

"I think I can get a podium on them all, but I think Midfield Raceway will be the track that I will do the best at do to a lot practice on it from previous years."

After asking Cooper Van Beek a few questions I had him run a lap in a Ford Focus ST '13. He ran the lap in 2:19.263. Below is the current lap record rankings:

  1. B. Deer 2:17.743
  2. C. Van Beek 2:19.263
Well thanks for reading. Hopefully we'll have more news for you soon.

Sorry for double posting, but a few announcements heading into the weekend...
HRL Formula Cup Track Tests: A schedule regarding the first 6 open tests has been made and it is the following:
April 11-Grand Valley Speedway
April 14-Twin Ring Motegi (Night Test Included)
April 17-Special Stage Route 5
April 20-Suzuka Circuit
April 23-Rome Reverse
April 25-Silverstone Circuit
All tests will be one hour in length and will be from 4-5 p.m. Eastern.
HRL Total Endurance Championship: A small, 6 race endurance championship will be held starting in June based on the Total Endurance Championship of 2014. This championship aims at providing a challenge of patience and perseverance as there are no driver changes. More information will be released near the end of the month.
HRL Cappuccino Touring Car Series: The next race is this weekend at Tsukuba Circuit. Everything starts on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.
I think they should to be honest. I don't know one series out there that says you can't use the rumble strips.
I never said that they couldn't be used. My translation is that if you use the surface on the opposite side of curbs, you'll be penalized for corner cutting, whether it be grass, astroturf, whatever else. Curbs themselves are fine as long as you don't go over it.

Okay, that's good. You could have worded that a little better though. Also, with Twin Ring, night time is too dark for FGTs as there are no lights all the way around.

With the wording, yeah, I did say that different to how I saw it. I meant to say that you can't go beyond the curb to the inside, regardless of how much the car is on track. A lot of series have "half a car" or "two tires" rule and that isn't entirely right. And after checking, yeah, TRM is too dark. Maybe a day to sunset race, but it gets dark quick.

If you are in the Greenwich Mean Time Zone you should now that practice starts at what would be 11:30 PM Sundays, Q1 would be at 12:30 AM Mondays, the race would start at 1:00 AM Mondays for you and could run till 3:00 Am for you.
Yes I just realised that. I didnt see the timings when I put my original post. I won't compete due to these times but thanks anyway

Your joking right? I drive the FGT there are at mid Night all the and i dont go any slower, you need to set up tv/monitor better. And when you set it up all track in the day look even better.

And hardy i used have used an example with the rumble strips. At acari in turn one, how much are you allowed to use. I think having pics for every track for track limits so there is no confusion.

1) Not everyone has your TV, and multiple people outside this series agreed when I asked them if Motegi was too dark for them in these cars. Safety becomes a big issue and with this field I'd rather not make it worse.
2) For the rumble strips question, I will go over that in pre race meeting, but a rule of thumb that @Whitetail and I talked this morning is don't use the grass.

Due to multiple things going on for a lot of people, the Grand Valley test will be pushed back to tomorrow. I want to give everyone a good chance at running laps and I also need to recover from a lot of heavy lifting yesterday and this morning. Anyone one that wants to run anyways, feel free to use the club to set up a room.

I was there, but I had to go early, 1 second off pace in SSR5 is not that bad, though :P

I will be at the test today, hope to see every one there. hardy if you want me keep the room open for you I will.

I have a room open now.

If you'd read the track regs and use your head a bit, that list would be a bit of common knowledge. Never assume that I'd use a lower quality track.

I knew that you would most likely going use them, but i was thinking as if I was a person that never knew you or herd of you and came across this champion ship. I didn't mean to be mean or anything, sorry if it came across like that.
