yes, it is .. i read that post, but it didn't reference a track scan, so i never clicked the link, sorry :(

No worries, I kind of botched that post. This morning I noticed Uncle Chewy creating a thread, and I thought it was called 'F1 The Game', so I got a bit excited and posted it here quickly, then realised that was the forum he was posting it in, so I had to change it quickly when I realised the truth. :dunce:

Plain stupid.

If they think they're going to pay-off 15 million euro investement in licence through "advanced" DLC, than I say "boycott them".

I will ONLY buy F1 game with ALL cars and ALL tracks of 2009 season on. Everything else will be a big pink "NO, NO".

CM on Multiplayer:

"There's always a push for more, more, more people online (sounds great on paper), and indeed we have up to 24 catered for with our F1 game, but we've found 8 is the magic number for DiRT 2."

Codemasters is heading into 2009 with a strong new UK management team, and an even stronger line-up of new products. Michael French speaks to UK GM Jeremy Wigmore and marketing VP Alex Bertie about their plans for the year ahead…

The company is famed for its racing games – and you’ve a number of them due this year. How will you differentiate between them?

AB: Most important is that we have racing games with very distinct identities. FUEL is an open world racer. DIRT is a rally game full of authenticity which also captures the driving lifestyle.

JW: The one thing that everyone knows about Codemasters is the development quality of its racing games. That’s never been in doubt, and I think that will win out for each game.

And of course there is Formula One. What can you tell us about it?

AB: Our game is an opportunity to bring F1 back on multiple platforms to a broader marketplace. Our vision for F1 is about making it exciting again as a video game property. We can’t talk about how we will do that yet, but we have big plans that will not just be one huge game later this year, but a phased approach over a number of years. There’s a great alignment of ethos there that a UK studio is working on the game of a sport whose current champ is a young ambitious British driver.

There is good and bad sides to this phased approach:

Good;
It will mean all drivers, driver stats, car performance etc will be as up to date as possible.
It suggest an early release date for the game.

Bad;
The game may cost significantly more than a normal game if they chose to put a price on the updates.
The game may be released in a slight rush, and not completely finished and therefore be subject to poor reviews.

Which out ways the other??
I think it is a good idea to have up to date information, maybe even near live statistics from that weekends race. Imagine being able to download all of a races telemetry on a Sunday evening so as you could go through it again, even better if you happened to miss the real thing.
Although this all depends on whether or not it'll cost a lot of money.

From my perspective, I wasn't impressed with either DIRT or GRID, horrible handling models. If their F1 rendition resembles those two games, I doubt I'll buy it.

I don't think they are suggesting an update system, GT4 genius, I think that comment points to people saying, "It will only be a 2009 release." Like with many games that turn into seasonal updates, they are trying to rid the impression of games developers who re-hash the same old product each year to produce the same game, but a bit different.

I love GRID bought it last weekend love the attention to detail the graphics are top notch better than GT5 in my opinion sure teh handling isnt great but its fun and a good storyline along with it for 25 quid a good buy so im expecting F1 to be an improvement on it. Plus the tracks look perfect like spa and the nurburgring

Even if this were true (I realise its your opinion), I'd rather have an F1 game with decent physics over one with fancy graphics. I sincerely hope this isn't the way Codemasters go with it, I'd rather they made an up-to-date F1:CE but with more in it.

Grid isnt a bad buy at 25 quid. The crash simulations are second to none (at least from what I've seen) and the physics are about half way between GT and NFS.
Although I think F1 2009s physics need to be considerably better, they deserve to be on a par with F1CE, which I would say is about 90% as good as GTs. See F1 games have always, and should always be near-simulators. I have nothing against games like Grid or NFS they have an important place in the market but F1 cannot be like them.

PS: Good joke about the graphics. ;)

The GRID graphics aren't that great just covered with hazy lighting that hides some shoddy work at times in my opinion.

Ah no. I really hope thats not true, but it would explain the lack of information and the scanning shots we got a few weeks ago which showed how early in the development process they are.

Everybody would've forgotten about it by then because they'd be busy on Gran Turismo 5: Which might be a good thing because they would get a nice pleasant suprise when they see F109 out.

Btw, I am a OPM fan and I got the new issue today, I'll try to search for the rumour.

That would be heaven.

If they are doing that, Sony needs to keep the servers running on F1: CE then. No point in closing down if they are going to alienate us until next year.

So we'll have the 2009 F1 game released in 2010?

Indeed, not completely surprising, its happened to sports games before, particularly F1 ones.

Another benefit of releasing it end of this year/start of next year is that they will have reliable information about the teams and drivers, I would hate to have a game out now that had Brawn at the bottom....;)

I'd hate a game that had no Brawn at all!

Who is actually in control of the servers ?
Is it Sony ?
Is it Studio Liverpool who owns the rights to F1CE ?
If it is Studio Liverpool , then their is nothing Sony can do is there ?
