Italy's death rate is crazy now, like 10%.

But that 10% is only part of the minority of people who were so ill that they went to hospital & ended up getting tested. The majority of people who have it, or have had it (80% or so), have never even been tested. The true figure for the overall death rate is very hard to calculate at the moment.

Yeah maybe so, also they say because the population is older.

This mother****er. American deaths are going to be on his hands. I had a distain for this ****bag, I can say that has morphed into a great amount of loathing. You dont like a governor's opinion of your actions, so you withhold aid to an entire states worth of people? Absolutely disgusting. This **** needs the ego kicked out of him. Way to go trumpsters, this is your guy. In the middle of a pandemic and he plays ****ing games. Welp, michigan voted for the ****bag, I guess we are reaping what we sow aye. ****ing ridiculous.

Here’s an “interesting” clip of Dr Bruce Aylward. Dr Bruce is the senior advisor to the Director General of the WHO.

In this clip, he claims China has one a wonderful job fighting the virus, but more eyebrow raising is his skirting of the Taiwan topic. Not saying the guy is a full on puppet of the CCP, but that seemed like a pretty shady way to dodge a question.

...I went for a walk at 1am (my sleep cycle has been destroyed) and I noticed that there was a bleachy smell...
Very interesting observation. Even though I'm a retired hermit anyway, my sleep cycle is also altering. Also I am having longer and more interesting dreams.

Has anyone else noticed unusual dreams?

That's not correct. The (approximately) 10% figure in Italy is based on ALL of the confirmed cases, not just those who were so ill that they went to hospital & ended up getting tested. However, it's true that it's hard to know how many people have, or have had the virus without being tested, so the 10% mortality rate is not likely to be fully accurate.

Pre-peer reviewed paper from U of W medicine.

If gaps in health care resources aren’t filled, more than 80,000 Americans will die over the next four months due to the coronavirus pandemic, epidemiologists at the University of Washington predict.

With those inputs, the computer models project a total of 81,114 deaths in the U.S. over the next four months. Most of those deaths are expected to occur during April, peaking at more than 2,300 deaths per day. That rate is projected to drop below 10 deaths per day sometime between May 31 and June 6.

More out of Taiwan. Apparently officials and doctors from Taiwan tried to warn the WHO about human to human spread of COVID19 back as early as Dec 31.

https://www.ft.com/content/2a70a02a-644a-11ea-a6cd-df28cc3c6a68

Two weeks later in mid January, WHO was still parroting CCP data that there is little to no risk of human to human spread.

I find it quite fascinating that this thread was created Jan 24, and many individuals here were reasonably well informed about the serious nature of this virus. Yet as late as March 3, the mayor of NYC was tweeting out “live your lives.”

Feb 2, NYC Health commissioner telling New Yorkers that their risk is very low, the city’s preparedness is very high

Feb 9, she’s telling people to attend Chinese New Year celebrations.

March 1, New Yorkers still at low risk

But let’s be serious, this is all Trump’s fault...

Whether or not this was a malicious bio attack by China vs the rest of the world or not, the CCP lied their pants off about what was happening, the WHO took their word for it, and now we’re all going to pay the price.

My god and that's their health commissioner, wow.

I'm not sure if anybody - at least on GTPlanet - "thinks this is all Trump's fault". It is clear that almost every jurisdiction in the world has underestimated the threat posed by the virus. The exception has been a handful of doctors & epidemiologists. But Trump, the pathological narcissistic, continues to act as though he needs to defend himself against the perception that he could be at fault in any way &, as usual, he does this by lashing out at anybody & everybody who criticizes him in any way. This is not helpful at all.

O_O

That's stupid on a lot of different levels. Didn't know about these statements.

/

Here in Hamburg, lots of people outside, riding bikes, running, walking around. I guess people are just on the streets, since that's not prohibited atm. It's crazy. Also saw a small street market packed with people. I'd love to have the chance of working from home and I see people just behaving as if they're on holidays, except not going to restaurants, shops, etc.

53.000 thousand cases and 400 deaths in Germany. 22 days ago we had 1200 and 2 respectively.

Let's hope that Germany doesn't follow Italy, Spain & other European countries into the abyss.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that folks here at GTP were saying that.

In my experience, the majority of GTP members are far more informed and level headed than that, and I always try to afford them the benefit of the doubt.

When I said “everything is trump’s fault” I mean it more in the sense of, “look at what all these idiots (ie non gtp folk) are saying, get a load of this.”

From what I’ve been seeing over the last few days on twitter, there are more than a few people simply trying to hang this whole thing on Trump (including the CCP lol).

Cases in Italy up 5,974 since yesterday, which equates to a 6.9% increase. I think that's the lowest percentage increase in some time.

Of course, that's a percentage of a higher starting figure, so the number of new cases is still concerning. But again, it's something moving in the right direction at least.

Unfortunately the number of deaths is similar to yesterday, but again that figure isn't increasing, at least.

Small crumbs I know, but I'll take whatever I can get.

Breaking: Enforced quarantine by federally imposed travel restrictions is presently under consideration.

You raise an interesting point. Your perception of what's going on is heavily influenced by the source of information. I'm not on Twitter at all, so I'm barely aware of what's being said there. My source for information is CNN, Fox, CBC, BBC, Reuters, NPR/PBA & Al Jazeera (weirdly, the most professional, most journalisty/in-depth of all of those is probably Al Jazeera). CNN has a clear agenda, as does Fox, although Fox plumbs the extremes on the commentary end way more than CNN.

My social media commentary is mostly restricted to GTPlanet & Quora, both of which pretty much require a reasonably detailed exposition of a point of view. I take it Twitter does not do that & so lends itself to people making extreme, unsupported statements. The other example I see of that is the Fox News website which allows commentary on most of their articles. The pro-Trump/anti Democrat comments on there are truly unhinged. CNN hasn't had reader comments on their website for some years, so there is no equivalent to what appears on Fox.

The trouble with Trump is that he is a full-on narcissist & ego-maniac. He is incapable of allowing ANY negative comment or criticism without counter-attacking. And he takes it all PERSONALLY. He thinks of himself as uniquely brilliant & can't let any challenge to that self-image go unanswered. This is a TERRIBLE characteristic in any President who inevitably is going to be faced with constant criticism of his decisions. And very disturbingly, Trump is now surrounded by advisors & a Republican party that has simply decided to act as enablers in this process.

Imagine being that big of a douchecanoe. Trump hates Michigan and he really better not win the state in November, something he needs to do if he hopes to secure a second term.

Under the terms of the recently invoked emergency Defense Production Act, Trump has ordered General Motors to immediately make ventilators by the thousands.

This should probably not be legal. It's almost like he's doing this to spite them because they wouldn't give in to his asinine demands for keeping production going at a plant where the products weren't selling.

Breaking: Enforced quarantine by federally imposed travel restrictions is presently under consideration.

This is also probably unconstitutional.

We can't be throwing away our rights here because let's face it, once the government takes them they're not going to give them back, at least not with Trump at the helm.

The video of WHO official Dr Bruce Aylward that I posted earlier seems to be gaining a lot of traction on Twitter today. I follow 708 accounts there, and make effort to follow people from as many different political, religious, cultural, national, etc backgrounds as possible. The reaction this video is getting is one of the most bipartisan responses I’ve seen to anything other than cat videos.

As a follow up to that, here’s a tweet with some stats about Taiwan, which seem to indicate they have a strong grasp of the situation.

I’m not sure how to verify the authenticity of the link in the tweet.

As of writing, a cumulative total of 29,389 cases have been reported among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 26,330. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 283 cases (Cases #268-283 confirmed today). Of 283 confirmed cases in Taiwan, 241 are imported and 42 are indigenous. Of the confirmed cases, there have been 2 deaths, and 30 patients have been released from isolation while the remainder is in a stable condition and remains hospitalized in isolation.”

Shifting gears, here’s a story about a Seattle ER doctor who was fired after criticizing COVID19 protocols. SMDH

Edit: strong language warning, this is a song called “Stay The 🤬 At Home,” it has a lot of swearing, so headphones on or send the kiddies to the other room. It’s pretty cute though

I came here to post that poem. It needs to be heard. It should be played on radio and TV just as much as the wash your hands ads.

Here's the Financial Times by region death graph, more pertinent than country data:

Lombardia account for around half Italian death at this stage, and i start to like its shape.

People here in Washington are generally taking social distancing seriously. You still see some people out on walks here and there, but people are going out of their ways to walk around one another.

A bit of cold comfort to see that even though the first US case started here, we have one of the least steep lines/closer towards deaths doubling every week.
