All regions would be getting them, you would expect, is what I wrote. That means exactly what it sounds like, or to clarify, it's my opinion, thus I have no source.

To my way of thinking, Sony wouldn't just give free games to some customers and not others. Sony's trying to generate good will, not create more ill feeling in their customer base. Maybe I'm wrong, we shall wait and see.

I would guess that other regions will be getting free games since the US is getting the free year of identity theft protection.

I just wonder if they are waiting to see if the hackers actually attempt something. If the hackers do anything Sony can ping them and it's all she wrote for these annoying people.

The other regions are getting the free year of identity theft protection also. It's just a little more complex to work out because there's so many different nations laws involved, in regions outside the U.S.

It's not a one or the other thing. Every region will end up getting the same offerings from Sony IMO, otherwise there would be to much complaining from customers about who got more, or which region was better catered to.

Something to think about:

With the recent natural disaster that took place in Japan recently, I'm curious to see what kind of economic impact this may have on the country with Sony being a Japanese country. Any idea on what Sony makes off of PSN on a weekly or monthly basis?

My opinion, the timing of the hack was pretty poor. One of the most populated, highly educated, and hardest working regions of the world is pretty much homeless and without work. Way to lend a helping hand.

I never heard Sony say anything about free games. Just free PS+, other random free downloads like themes, and Free identity theft monitoring.

Where did you see them say free downloads like themes? I'm not attacking what you wrote, just wondering. This link from Joystic says free downloads but doesn't specify what that is.

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/01/psn-outage-plus-qriocity-free/

I hope Sony is smart enough to realize that a free theme would be a slap in the face to a lot of people. People are going to want content, not a theme they probably won't use. Personally, I think offering identity theft protection is enough, but I know most people don't feel that way.

Yeah, another problem with people nowadays. :indiff:

@ fcfizzle: Can't remember where, I just remember seeing something about themes. Come to think of it may have been in one of the Q&A posts from Sony, but may have been someone asking if themes they download during the free PS+ trial would still be around when it ends.

That article said Sony estimated it would be around $20-25 worth of content. From that I would assume at least one game will be included, but I'm not going to let anything surprise me.

These d'bags need to do some time at Club Gitmo. Well, no, that's too posh for them. I'm wondering if they will they face international charges.

"When we held the press conference in Japan last week, based on what we knew, we expected to have the services online within a week. We were unaware of the extent of the attack on Sony Online Entertainment servers, and we are taking this opportunity to conduct further testing of the incredibly complex system."

Sony seem to be "unaware" of a lot lately. Is that their default excuse for everything? It's getting old.

I am sick of waiting, and so close to going out an buying a Xb*x.

I just want to play online :grumpy:

Are any of you guy's feeling the same way?

SONY =/= Japan. It's one company in a very populated country.

Also, all of Japan is not lying waste in ruins. Some of it's pretty ****ed, to be sure. But Osaka, where I live, is absolutely unharmed. Business went on as usual the next day, not to mention weeks later.

Everyone isn't involved in rebuilding the north of Japan. The rest of the country still have to get on with their lives, and that means working. I'd say that for the majority of Japanese, they still have homes and jobs. Almost everyone knows someone who was invoved somehow, but that's just how the world works.

Nope. I never play games online anyway; most games are better enjoyed offline, where you don't run into the average 12 yo with too much time and not enough brains.

The only thing I really miss is the Autolog feature in Shift 2. And I really want to buy the brilliant Legends DLC for it, but it looks like I'll have to be patient for a while before the store will be back up.

Just put them away in a place where they can have a dreamdate with a big fat bald guy named Bob every night.

Why were they doing this again? Because like all armchair activists they are angry at all big global companies for some bizarre reasons, or because this one took away their freaking Linux? Boohoo-hoo.

I hope they'll make an example out of these punks.

No, although I am missing playing GTA4 online I wouldn't jump ship just because of that. Good grief, what the heck did people do before online play? I'm sure we managed somehow.....👍

I have got so much done on other games since PSN went offline, been working on my PS1 games and have fully completed at least 3 PS1 games on the PS3, currently plowing my way through RE2 so have plenty to do.

Sure, and girls who dress sexy are to blame for their own rape...

Sony are the primary victims of a crime here. We're the secondary victims. The criminal is the person to blame and the only people complicit in it are the people who made the exploits known.

It would be much appreciated when people make comparisons or use an analogy-that it is a direct comparison. a "girl dressing up sexy" and being raped because of said action is not the same thing as a cyber-crime...in fact, that is WAY over the top. you are using an extreme example to sort of bully your point across and that is extremely unfair.

That said...

Can i ask if you have a firewall/AV on your computer, and if so, how much do you have and why you have it? because by your logic we don't need any security because hacking (that includes the creation and distribution of virus's, data theft and other malicious actions on the web) is against the law.

Me personally, i am VERY paranoid when it comes to my PC's protection because i have lost WAAAAY to much info (around 4 TB in total) and have suffered many computer rebuilds (and to many hours of hair pulling and screaming) due to inadequate security.
I've learned the hard way that you can NEVER have enough security when you have a system linked to the internet. it is my hope that Sony have FINALLY learned that lesson as well.

But the thing is I only play online, its the only way to get a decent challenge at racing on GT5, inless I run the FGT championship over and over again!! (done that about 10 times allready)

I am more into playing COD so not being able to play online is a nightmare for me. I guess Sony will loose a lot of customers because of this outage :guilty:

I doubt Sony will lose that many customers, the cost of buying a new system, the games, paying for Xbox Live doesn't make much sense to me. However, I don't have money to burn so even if I wanted to I couldn't do that anyway.

No, i'm an adult and have learnt the art of patience. Would laugh my arse off if your mummy buys you an eggbox and then the next day the PSN goes back live :dopey:

How is the analogy wrong? Sony took what they considered to be reasonable precautions... Like most corporations and government agencies do... It's amusing that people have heard one person report what he's heard thirdhand about Sony running on outdated servers and automatically think "OMG! Sony Haxx NO firewallz!"

Plain fact of the matter: if you have a network where outside users can enter and edit data, no matter how strict your security and double checking of those outside users is, you're vulnerable. Period. The only truly safe system is a closed system (think... Apple iTunes... And even then...), and that wouldn't be much fun for those of us who would not be able to use it, would it?

Same with the girl. Only way for her to be completely safe is to stay at home. Which would infinitely sadden those of us who enjoy watching good looking women walk down the street.

I've picked my 2 games already.

Angry Birds 5, The Real Flying Simulator.
Angry Birds, Special Opps.

Just imagine the premium birds in AB5. The standards would be ok too. Bspec would be a nightmare. Imagine telling Bob's how to fling birds at things.

Hurry up PSN, I'm losing my mind!

Sony warned us about possible fake communications from services digging for personal information. I just got one. For a fake Pay-Pal login email. Be careful if you get something similar.

No it'll be MORTAL KOMBAT!

I wasn't being sarcastic darren. I would be genuinely happy with flower, or games like that for free from Sony.

Fair Trader, no I have not considered getting an Xbox360 due to PSN being down. The only games I'm interested in are PS3 exclusive, or available on both systems. If MGS and GT5 were on Xbox, that's the system I would have.

It's understandable that people are frustrated with PSN being unavailable, and admittedly I am one. However the piece of mind that will come from a more secure network is worth the wait.

I knew that, I want MORTAL KOMBAT 9!!!

You should've bought a Mac! j/k

Just tried to log into 'My PSN' via my iPhone. The message has changed from 'Service Down' to 'Forbidden'. Didn't work on PS3 still. (Australia)
