Why do evangelical Christians believe they have a monopoly on marriage anyway?

Can two (straight) Muslims, married by an imam, not be husband and wife? Two Hindus? Two Jews? Two Buddhists? If they can, why is what the Bible says about it even relevant?

I think (based on recent conversation), some of them even think Christianity invented marriage.

Progress?
She does seem to have progressed from the denial stage to the anger stage, although that anger seems to be somewhat misdirected. GOP leadership chose candidates who were evidently unsuitable for the post, or at least the majority of GA/AZ voters. Complaining they didn't rig the election hard enough rather than admitting Hersch and Kari were simply unpopular, though... OK, maybe she's still hip deep in denial.
