Does this qualify me to be known as an alien? (B race)

Race A was fun, and I got to race with my buddy @Leftcurl as well. Always a pleasure Sir.

Edit: As fun as it is, race A is bad for the SR, back down to B already. :(

it's a love hate relationship with Race A this week.. really enjoy this track and weirdly i like the FF Gr4 cars, so i must be some sort of masochist as i sat on the grid in P2 and just waited to be smashed up the arse on T1. So, the inevitable happened... smashed into oblivion and then i immediately got a 5 second penalty for hitting the barrier  then comes the delight in weaving your way through battling Audi TT's as the sparks fly off the barriers - but obviously they don't get penalties... why would they?!?
My SR has taken a beating in a few races but my DR has risen a little... bring it on... it's just a game

Man Race B is savage. Matchmaking gods still don't like me but that is ok. Both races quite savage to watch but I have had it pretty clean. 1 guy did a massive send at the end of my second race that wiped out 3 people, but I managed to stay on track despite the hit. Ended up 8th after starting 15th in a field of mostly S drivers. Still not good for.much DR though.

So it's been a wild and woolly night at Dragon Trail, but time to call it. Had two mostly clean races, lost a few DR in one, next one I gained a few in a really loaded lobby as everyone else binned it trying to race super close. Went for a third, got a great start and passed a couple of crashers when I got one of those penalties. Someone else was crashing, takes me out, and it was obviously my fault according to PD.

And for fun after that I was on lap 1 (must be some sort of voodoo for me there) when my wife decided to stand between me and the TV screen to check something in the washing, which wasn't in the way of the TV, exactly as I am heading into the death chicane with a car dead ahead and 2 on my bumper. Things did not go well. I ended up working my way back to 9th, but could have had so much more. Oh well. DR possibly stabilized while I get my elbows out a bit more for the sprint style of race B again. Keep having to remember I don't have the time like you do in race C a lot of the time.

Don't know why some regions aren't using the Scirocco. That's fine. Call me Lone Wolf McQuaid.

Scirocco is usually my GR4 weapon of choice. Even at Brands when we were not limited to FWD I used it. I didn't race and only had time to set a few Q laps per car last night - Megane was poop and I could not tolerate that 6th gear maxing out for 10 minutes in a 6 minute race so I only did 1 test lap, Pug is just too pugly to drive, Scirocco was a 1.12.3 after 5 laps and TT was a 1.11.1 again after 5 laps. Having only done a few laps I know there's easily a low 1.10 for me in the TT. Perhaps the Scirocco is better for the race with it's handling being more capable to duck, dive, brake and accelerate but certainly for Q time the TT wins for me.

Couple of Race Bs and a C last night, no quali into the first B, started 15th in the NSX (my only '16 Gr2 car) and largely by avoiding the chaos, ended up 8th, passing the guy who had been leading for most of the race coming out of the Chicane of Death on the last lap, poor guy must have taken a beating there. Couple of quali laps and into a second race, 9th on the grid, accidentally spun a guy who turned in on me at the hairpin before the CoD, somehow still got a clean race bonus and 7th place at the finish. Looking at the comments on here, might have to try the '08 Lexus I've got.

Race C is definitely odd, it's a long race for slow cars, and the fuel and tyre usage is negligible, by about 5 laps in I was a bit bored, but by the end I wanted more laps!!! Was 16th on the grid, but slipped off the brake and got a false start penalty, so was 19th by T1, but slowly made my way back up overtaking some and others spun off, let one divebomber through who took out himself and another driver a couple of corners later. Was running 11th a couple of laps from the end on the back of a group of 5, when the one in front of me messed up the last corner, I nearly had a run on him but he weaved all down the S/F straight to block me, then messed up T1 so I was alongside on the exit. I stayed right, but he bumped me twice, and then the third bump sent me across the grass on the right hand kink just before the hairpin, which gave him a 2s penalty. Passed him on the way out of the next hairpin and although he tried to bump me off again, the penalty zone kicked in and dropped him back, and he lost more time in the last couple of laps. Actually quite a fun race when you get into it, feels like being an actual club racer.

SR back up to 99, DR up by 500 to over 8000 for the first time in a while...

That's brutal. In the spirit of @MIE1992 , it could be suggested that the ghosting needs to take effect more quickly. Clearly if the software knew the exact location, dynamic status and inputs of the spinning car, it would see the situation was irrecoverable and ghost it fast enough that it didn't become your issue.

The wife situation sounds brutal. Hopefully you'll get at least half the house etc.

I just hope it doesn't take you as long as I did. It seems like I've been struggling to get these times lately.

... That, or I am turning into an over-ambitious sucker.

It took me over and hour and a half yesterday to set my DT time, you’re not alone. The faster you get, the harder it is to keep getting faster. I did get lucky at Tokyo though, I set my 9.0 on lap 5 and my 8.8 on lap 10, that’s never happened before though. :)

I see a fellow African at almost every race mate... There aren't many, but there are...

There's literally a South African topping the Race B EMEA leaderboards...

Cool, didn't know that. But I didn't count them in the lag measurements since they don't make up one to two thirds of the grids like south Americans do.

Anyway Johannesburg to London is an average 167ms round trip. Still less than Brasilia to Vancouver, 198 ms. Los Angeles to Toronto is already 50% slower than London to Moscow.

I think someone mentioned this earlier (it might have been @Sven Jurgens). Race C penalties are kind of a joke. I was almost at the bumper of the car ahead with a 3 second penalty, I went pass them on the straight yet he stayed within 0.5 seconds of me. Ideally the car should come to a complete stop, the Mazda is slow already.

With the Penalty Zone's placement in mind, it's even less of a detriment. You can easily catch the draft of cars ahead so lost time is negligible.

I am going to say that Race B is probably going to wipe out my SR is week, but I am determined to figure it out. Struggled mightily last night, started in back half of the pack, never made it through lap 1 without an incident. If I can clear lap 1 I think I have a chance but not sure as so far I am finishing that lap in last after getting punted every time. Once was my fault as I had to slow down for the sweeper chicane when I drifted wide, as I came back on track just got blasted, but also had nowhere else to go other than complete stop. No one got a penalty for that though. Usually get booted or shoved into or out of that first hairpin. I am still making up places as people keep trying the chicane of death 2 wide but I need to figure out how to stay in line without geting losing it or getting booted lap 1 to have a chance.

Did actually have a good clean race with a guy for a lap last night before we caught a Black Knight ahead who took both of them out with one of their crazy blocks. Oh well, going to learn or get to next week. On the plus side my SR is still at 97 as most incidents don't seem to penalize people so bad. Or at least punting me in the lobbies I have been in doesnt penalize others.
Try doing some Q laps with corner indicators turned on.

Tsukuba Circuit... Qualified 4th... timer counting down... green light... floor it... but I was in reverse. Backed up and fell into last place @15th. Oops. I managed to finish in 4th but everyone behind me at the start were probably laughing their tailpipe off. I have no idea why it was in reverse.
I've done that too. As has been mentioned, if you bump your shift lever just about any time after your car is on track it'll change gears. Part of my start routine on grid starts is to glance at the gear indicator as the count down / timing lights start.

I assume the GT-R is meta this week as well?
The 08 Xanavi, not the new one.

It's been less than a day and it feels like everyone in these goddamn lobbies is already a Dragon Trail expert :banghead:

Also, interestingly enough I've only seen like two guys get killed at Death Chicane. T5 and the squiggles after it seem to be the main Shadow Realm entry point because people just aren't very cautious about that part of the track.
There was a Gr.3 or Gr.4 at DTS recently, all the B race drivers got a lot of practice there.

I've run a couple of B's today, going to have to edit & upload one of my replays. In a grid of 16, eight cars ended up in the wall or the kitty litter at the first hairpin on L1. A minor bump partially my fault two turns earlier may have contributed I'm afraid, but I laughed myself silly watching the replay. I got through clean amazingly, but karma works. I binned the COD twice in that race with no other car in sight.

Yes there are a few Russian, South African and other far away countries (at least accounts from there), on the races but only every now and then, sometimes they are laggy (as you might expect), other times they are no worse than some others in the race and it's not a problem. ;)

It is a problem though when they turn up and are laggy, as they always seem to be involved in accidents, no doubt because of the lag and it seems difficult to follow behind laggy cars too. The problem is that people from these places will have trouble whatever region they race in due to the distance involved, it's mostly not their fault and there isn't much anyone can do about it. :indiff:

I do agree (how could you not) that this lag problem here (EMEA) is nowhere near as bad as the other regions but again none of it can be helped, providing it's not done on purpose, which sadly I think some of it is. When a connection goes to real bad just as you catch someone before cleaning up again after you make an error due to it, it's suspect at the very least. :odd: :(

Anyway on the subject of laggy drivers, a couple of weeks ago I saw one driver with an account from Norway (maybe not actually from there) with a ping of 891ms (according to GT Sport), of course they hit everyone and bounced all over the track. I mean where do you even start with that. I guess I just wish people with connections like that would stop spoiling the races for others, whether they are doing it intentionally or not. Which brings us around to the people racing "out of region" with duplicate accounts. It's this simple, if you are getting yellow bars or less and/or ping in the hundreds of ms then get lost, otherwise race on.

Also if you race in the FIA stuff "out of region" then you are going to upset a lot of people (if they even realise) and that is not really cool either, even before your lag may ruin their race.

Australia & NZ drivers are always yellow bars racing in our own region. I plan on allowing some extra room, but when another driver insists on entering the braking area inches off my rear bumper, incidents are unavoidable :(

I have an alt acct in the America's region, ping is barely worse than my own region and a lot better than some of the Agentine/Brazilian drivers who belong in that region. There is no way I'd try racing in EMEA though, that's at least 150ms more than to west coast North America.

Sometimes I am waiting in the lobby for the race to start with 5 green bars, then when the countdown starts it drops to one red. Then it will rise to 3 yellow after half a lap. I try to fall back but there's no way I quit and loose all that SR when my connection might be OK again in half a lap.

And this happens with cable and with Wi-fi. I guess it's my ISP

When I race on my Asian account, my connection is always the same as the Australian & New Zealand guys (3 yellow bars). Japanese guys always have the perfect connections. If anyone ever mentioned that I was lagging and causing problems, I would stop.

The other day, racing on the American server, for the first time I can remember, I had 1 red bar. :odd: It didn't seem to cause any problems, so I don't expect 3 yellow bars to create lag.

Yes like I said, that is probably unavoidable in the other regions but stable, mostly green, connections is possible in my region. :)

My post is more referring to the people whose connection is always bad, like the idiots using satellite internet. :banghead: The ones who come to the EMEA region (whether they live here or not) and then turn all these races bad due to their lag. :(

If I wanted races with lots of lag (and/or with other cars badly lagging) then I'd just create an Aussie or American account or something but I don't want that and you wouldn't want me in your races either, as I drive close to other cars my lag would probably punt you for me.
