So I managed to reset myself from C/S to D/S, not completely intentionally, but since I was doing so poorly, going from P2 to P20 after a couple of self-induced spinouts I figured, "why not?"

I think my confidence took a hit when I got thoroughly chastised on PS by a guy I accidentally shunted off the track. I should have backed off and let him have the corner but I thought I could take it without hitting him. Oops! I slowed down for a bit, but it was going to take him several seconds to get going. I guess I should have pulled off the track and waited for him to go by, but I didn't. I didn't catch his name to apologize in the post-race room, but I did apologize and grovel in my response to his four-letter-word-filled message. Hope he accepts my apology. I think that was the race where I picked up the 1 minute penalty for not changing tires, so karma got me!

I love it to be an "outlaw"

My GT DD pro wheel came early today. Took me a while to affix to my playseat challenge but up and running now. Steering feels much more precise and nuanced. Braking on the other hand is a bit of a struggle. (Standard pedal, not LC). There’s way more pedal travel. And to reach 100% basically having to stand on the thing. I really hope GT7 offers some sort of calibration.
Upgrade for LC... but congratz for that awesome Wheel.

So I've had a few races at RBR tonight and it's been... really clean actually!

And the Genesis is a definite weapon round there 🙂

Did a Race C early morning. Twelev players enter. Six players leave. Started last in the Supra. Finished P3. P2 and P3 fighting for position. Like, why? P1 skips away as P3(DBR9) tries to outbrake P2Peugeot VGT) into T1. I’m faster than the DBR9 ober the next3 laps. Pit end of Lap 5, as I know I’ll be held up. Next lap, after the DBR9 pits, I clear it by 3.5 seconds. No dramas through the chequered flag.

Race B, on the other hand. Other players divebombing me if I’m not in the required FF. Switch to the Megane for the next race. Started 5th. Finished 5th.

Can’t wait for solo play and maybe some League Super Taikyu, classic Trans Am and GT4 racing.

An extra Daily C double-header to round off the week. Hesitated at first after checking the top 10 EMEA times to see that they are now largely in the 1:37 region, but felt that my pace from Monday's races was at least comparable to that of a streamer who happened to be doing the same combo moments before I started the 21:00.

21:00 EMEA

No improvements on my best practice time, so the Mustang started 19th between two McLarens and a little over 1.2 seconds off the pole-sitting GT-R GT3. Really close-knit field in between, although realistically a Top 10 was out of the question this time. Benefited from a disconnect which promoted me to 18th, though this didn't last long as the Malboro McLaren got a run on me almost immediately. Shuffled with the #1 Corvette who mysteriously dropped all the way back from 2nd, though his raw pace suggested that he was challenging himself to force his way back through the pack. On Lap 2, the #18 Vantage in 2022 Aston F1 colours pushes the Malboro car onto the gravel, pitching him into a spin that he never recovers from. Followed the #17 McLaren through to safety and 17th, before enjoying a brief tussle with the #14 Corvette after he himself got turned round at Turn 14.

On Lap 3, we catch up to a gaggle of cars going three wide through Turn 6, which ends horribly for the Aston as he loses it on the exit. Medium stint over; another fair and enjoyable battle with the #14 which ends with me getting around the outside of him into Turn 1. Or so I think. He and the recovering #18 remain on my tail over the coming laps as they squabble for 17th. For a while, I was safe, until on Lap 7, the #18 attempts to get the #14 under braking for Turn 6. The #18 overshoots; he tags my left-rear; I'm forced out wide and lose momentum in my recovery over the grass. Lucky break for the #14 who streaks past the pair of us, leaving me vulnerable to a slipstream pass from the #18. Didn't lose too much ground as another Corvette (running in 6th) clipped the barrier out of Turn 14 and retired immediately.

Rest of the race was spent following the #14 and #18 in their own duel, which reminded me of the good old Aston vs Corvette GT1 battles from Le Mans gone by. A few more incidents up ahead - including the #14 twitching and hitting the Turn 14 armco - gifted me 14th in what was otherwise a steady cruise.

After this, I began trying the Corvette out in qualifying to see whether I could get a faster time. Didn't break into the 1:39s on my first go, so the Mustang remained my steed for the second attempt.

21:30 EMEA

Before this, there was a long wait between the end of entry and the matchmaking screen, which made me suspect that I would get disconnected and be forced to call it a night. Luckily, that wasn't the case, as I lined up 16th out of the 18 runners who made it into the lobby which seemed to be largely unchanged.

The Corvette immediately behind (door number #13, Martini colours) started on Softs, and within the first sector I lost out to both him and the #18 who surged ahead on a conventional Medium strategy. Still regained a place from another Corvette losing it on its own out of Turn 14, and a developing 4-car squabble ensured that I could pounce when the #17 McLaren rammed the #13 and ended up worse for wear. Swapped for Softs which initially did a great job reeling in the #12 Doritos Corvette, but couldn't quite keep up as he had its own slipstream from the #18. Climbed up one place by the half-way point, as the #13's gamble began to unravel as he tumbled all the way down from the lead.

On Lap 8, my consistency and the Mustang's superb traction paid off as we got close to the battle for 11th - involving the #12 and #8 Corvettes, the #14 McLaren and the #15 Aston. Took advantage of their bumps, passes and trips to the gravel to stealthily get into the mix altogether. The #8 punts the #15 out at Turn 14, and suddenly I'm in a prime position to get one or both of the Corvettes on the run to Turn 1. I reckoned, however, without the #17, who had rapidly gained on us and decided it was a good idea to send it up the inside of Turn 13... right as I was braking to take my usual line. Cue a punt which sends me into the tyre stacks, costing me valuable time. More mayhem ensued at Turn 1, when the #8 and #17 came together and end up scrabbling through the gravel trap. Held off the #13 to take 12th, and was pleasantly surprised to find that despite the earlier punt, my 'Clean Race' bonus had been left intact.

Shortly after this race, I made another qualifying run in the Corvette which feels a lot less weighty, but somehow less composed and with slightly fewer horses on tap. My best lap in that so far is a 1:39.484, still over two-tenths off the Mustang even with the former advantage. Highly unlikely to get any faster from this point on, but equally unlikely to switch from the Mustang as I still find it comfortable enough as it is in lobby trim. Next focus will be on the Red Bull CTR fest which should be interesting with the 10x tyre multipliers that are coming into effect.

Do you ever race in the American rooms? I thought I saw that stang yesterday.
Only Sport Mode races I do are in EMEA lobbies. What you probably saw was another player who liked my 'Venator GT3' livery (or one variant of it) so much that they decided to use it for their own Mustang as well.

That I find particularly gratifying. 👍

Big mistake to go racing straight away with the new wheel. Binned it and cost me 1400 DR by coming 18th starting 6th. Ouch. 😭. Really struggling with the new pedals. Lots of practice needed this weekend for the death chicane.

Two races in the RX-V. It’s going to be a nice experience in GT7. Screaming everywhere at Daytona and High Speed Ring. Tunnels tunnels at Trial Mountain and Deep Forest.

First race was half good half bad after an AMG ran me wide at T1.

Second race. Started 6th and moved up to 5th. So weird it’s 41.7 seconds on RM and 41 seconds on RS. Good pace all race though. Three C7s up the front both races.

Tried Race C last night. Wasn't too bad. New to the game so didn't know the track. Spent like over an hour on circuit experience (very useful feature!). Got a quali time of 1:43.6 which is probably a fair bit slower than I could get, but I wanted to actually try get some racing in (I have a habit of spending all night qualifying).

First race ended up near the bottom cus I spun myself out soooo much, oops.

Second race was better, but had a terrible spin that added 20+ seconds to my time cus the car didn't reset and I got stuck. Still managed to end up 9th somehow though. Was mostly on my own for the race.

Third race was best and I could tell I was getting more consistent and getting 1:42 laps. Still had a spin out though, and that cost me 11 seconds. Finished 6th though, with a brilliant overtake on the very last corner, whew! Could have got 5th if I hadn't spun, maybe even better as it would have been nice to run at the front of the pack too, as 1-4th were all very close. Oh well.

Driver rating took a hit though. Went from B to C, but the way I see it is I need way more racing experience. Getting a good qualifying time is useful and all, but I tend to make too many bad choices when it's close racing, so being more mid pack and practicing my racing is useful I think (past habit has been to try and ace quali so I can just sit up front mostly by myself). Plus I decided that it's simply more fun to just race then worry too much about ratings. A good race is a good race afterall!

Half a dozen C races for me this evening which started out pretty crappy (dive bombed out of first on the final sharp left from 0.7 sec behind, car punted into me into the sand trap, bumped in the fast left before the final turn into the wall, stopped spun + 1.5 sec penalty) but ended with 2 of the best races in a long time.

Finally a competent fast clean smart driver (Newkid) pretty evenly matched. In one of the 3 races we did together we were pretty much on each others heels for the entire race, both starting at the back and navigating to the front (finished 2nd and 3rd). Both 6 laps softs and 4 medium. He took all the defensive lines, I kept trying to overtake around the outside which the Lexus can't quite pull off against the vette. Yet he could never shake me and so we went round and round bumper to bumper, all contact free.

I got ahead of him at some point in traffic, then he got ahead again later when I went a bit too wide in the fast left slowing me just enough to open the door. Otherwise it was not possible to pass. Unfortunately on the final lap my brakes failed in T1, maybe I touched too much blue, not sure. Luckily the game ghosted me so I went through him into the sand instead of hitting him and finished 3 seconds behind him. I watched the replay, all I see is the red on the brake bar spiking, ABS not letting the car brake, weird. The first 9 laps were amazing.

In the last race I did this evening he tried the reverse, 4 laps medium, 6 soft. I passed him early this time in traffic (started in front of me again) and managed to stay ahead and increase my lead on him while passing more cars. I lost sight of him after he pitted until I pitted end of lap 7. Meanwhile I had worked my way to second, drove lap 6 in 1st, then back to 2nd 2.0 sec behind first in lap 7 with 3rd 2.7 sec behind and newkid in 4th. I gained on first, stayed behind him to pass him with a better exit from the fast left hander before the final sharp left. Newkid has moved up to 3rd in the mean time and is now 3.7 sec behind me.

It worked. I got beside 1st on the inside on the way to the sharp left, and ... he tries to push me into the wall, sigh. He grinds me into the inside wall, I keep the car under control and we survive the corner. He's in a McLaren so he catches up of course on the straight. I take a defensive line on the inside, he tries to pass over the grass which slows him down. He goes behind me now, I go back to the racing line so I don't get bumped off and let him have the inside line. I start braking and leave him all the room on the inside. He backs off (started braking on time) so I go for the apex. Yet he lifts off the brakes, puts his nose on my inside bumper and tries to pit manoever me, trying to spin me in the corner while using me to make the corner sigh.

I go into a slide, manage to keep control of the car and stay on the road. He's ahead again, newkid now 1.8 sec behind me. More shenanigans in the left right and I've had enough. I put him in the wall on the way to the Church, newkid manages to avoid him and is now only 0.7 sec behind me. He gains on me to the sharp left, the dive corner, gets within 0.5 sec, he's squeeky clean, no dive bomb. I take the corner flawlessly, unfortunately mr dirty in 3rd dive bombs Newkid. He survives but falls back to 1.7 sec behind me.

For the last couple laps I drive like I stole it, no brake failures. Newkid almost gets within slipstream range a couple times but I manage to keep him just over a second behind me. I set my fastest lap for the race in lap 9 on the medium tires, and take the win.
Gran Turismo®SPORT_20220218222319.png

Newkid takes 2nd with the fastest lap. Mr dirty fell back to 5th, karma.

Good time to stop and play Horizon!

I got room on my slim but I'll wait a little while to see if it kills PS4
I'm more upset that it will likely have a small partition for saving replays, even if I have 25% of my hard drive free.

I'd say spend some time doing qualifying laps on this week's combinations of daily races. If you've done races this week on a previous wheel, you'll already know in your mind where to brake, turn, & apply throttle. Another tip is to check in the settings menu. Your wheel may be too new for GTS to recognize it, but you might get lucky. If you are lucky, try adjusting anything. My wheel was giving me too much force feedback. After turning it down, both my arms & the wheel will last longer & I can be more precise.

Another night of racing. Another load of mistakes :/

Started with Race B. First race I totally messed up turn 1 on the first lap by not concentrating. Binned on the following hairpin a few laps later. Ended up in 7th, 2 positions lower.

Second Race B and I managed to get into 2nd. Me and the leader were pulling away from everyone else for the entire race until..... I binned it on the hairpin on the final lap. I quit. I tried to push it too hard when there was no point. Leader was >1 second ahead. 3rd was over 3s behind. I shoulda just gone for a cruise that lap. Grr.

Race C I noticed the hud wasn't on race radar. I should have waited for a decent straight but tried to change it just before a corner and ended up in the gravel on the first lap. Went from 3rd down to 13th but decided to carry on. Made my way all the way back to 5th when on the 9th lap I tried to fake out the car in front but in my haste I missed my braking point by a country mile and slammed into a car and the wall. Fortunately didn't ruin the other guys race entirely. He managed to recover fairly quickly. I on the other hand was facing the wrong way so I quit and called it a night.

I know I've got the pace to keep up with B drivers but my lack of experience keeps getting me in trouble. I shoulda just held my line on that last race and waited for a better opportunity. Sigh. Too damn eager.

I will add tho, very clean racing from the rest of the field on all races. Impressed.

Word of advice: don't quit. Even if you have lost everything in the race carrying on teaches you race craft on the track. Quitting teaches you nothing.

Some mixed races today. Starting quite high up the grid with an improved qualy but binning it two races in a row saw me finish bottom half. Next couple had two South Africans with the obligatory one dot connections causing a lot of problems for everyone but came home 3rd and 5th. Last race saw a fellow member for the first time @GOTMAXPOWER on the grid. I started 2nd, after a couple of laps P1 hit the wall before the last corner and rather than take his medicine he blocked my pass quite aggressively and the speed differential basically meant I punted him off. Maybe I should have waited, but I didn’t. Through pits I kept the lead with a close fought clean pursuit by 2nd. My nemesis corner, the last one before the home straight struck again, on the power too soon and clipped the barrier knocking me down to 5th. The F1 is atrocious on mediums, my medium stints are a real issue. Happy with 5th though and the guy I hit came last and was getting a fair bit of stick post race.

Are you using TC? some of you guys are binning it a lot, for the few tenths a lap tc1 may be worth a shot .
I don’t. It’s not a traction issue in my case. At least not today. 1st binning was braking down the blue on T1 and overshooting, second was going full throttle to quick and messing up the exit line on the last corner. I’m just still very inconsistent and across 10 laps it can cost me.

I had my reasons. Due to the timing of the daily races I decided I didn't want to miss the next Race C which I would have if I'd stayed till the end of Race B. Second quit it was late and I was tired. But yeah, normally I just stick it out. Last night was not a good night though :(

I was under the impression TCS1 only really helped with launch control? But yeah, I don't wanna blame a lack of TCS. It's totally my fault in all cases from poor driving and I don't think TCS1 would have made much difference tbh. It's not like I'm always on the verge of spinning out, just made some stupid mistakes.

Ive only just started online. Only have 25 hours total, mostly offline.
Been practicing B, managed my first ever win today! By 12 seconds! Had a clean race, took the lead at third corner, and built from there. For me, it was almost perfect laps. I had been regularly making mistakes when practicing, it just all came together for the race.

I agree with this statement below. I have posted several videos of my races starting awfully, but getting a solid result.

One of my best races started horribly & well....

I never quit at the start. I only quit these races right at the end where it was too late to do anything.
