Daytona 24 Minute Race: Daytona Road Course

After entering the pit, being lifted for tires, gas is done filling and the sign is raised my car sits there for about 5 seconds extra?! Is this supposed to happen? It's causing me the race...

I started this one in the Stealth 787 with @praiano63 tune. up to 7th by the 5th lap 13.8 sec. behind but started on RS so had to pit. I entered the pit on at the end of lap 5 but no menu came up and the car didn't stop and went back out on the track without a stop? Why???:banghead:

Someone explain this to me please? I even went back to Test Drive to be sure I entered the pit correctly. I did so I don't get it. Once I get an answer I believe I will start on RH since my lap times on RH vs. RS is less than 3/4 of a second. Also the 787 gulps fuel like maybe 2 MPG. I've tried the C60 and the C9, but the 787 is the car to use since that seems to be what most are using. I don't need another 1-2 million credit car.

Pit road speed is really 100mph at Daytona, no idea why they wrote 50mph...the AI's even enter at 100mph.

There are a few ways for the pit stops to mess up at Daytona and not get a pit crew.
Entering way to fast and slide into the grass.
Entering at the exact same time as some else is exiting.
Getting hit from the rear while entering.
Entering either to far to the left or right of the pit road entrance lane.

Entering on the left of the white line where the asphalt is light grey is the most common reason for getting a pass though.

You should be under 100mph when the rear tires pass the end of this yellow line.

Well the event description states the pit lane speed limit is 50mph, which you are automatically slowed down to ingame. But, as you have shown, you can enter above that speed. Also, in the real event, the pit lane speed limit was a painstaking 37mph/60kmh, so I guess we should be happy it's faster ingame.

Finally Audi R8 '01 a close 3.6 secs win. Messed up on the home stretch the time before trying to slow to just make the 24 min mark, ended up brushing the wall, 5 sec penalty and passed for 2nd place. Repeat the exact same restart, this time bring more careful and finishing in 24:11 for 14 laps. Low laps were mid 1:33s, usually ran 1:34s. Have to be patient and let the AI come back. I hate the infield portion, the AI was faster there, and tried to avoid any passing except on the oval or braking into the bus stop. Funny the 2nd time the 787B was closest, time before the Pescarolo C60.

RM 5, RM 10, RS to fin, full 73,74 litre fill ups. Used the 2/0 brake balance setting and 8/8/20 LSD, thanks @YZFrules.

Took the Bentley out for a first run at this race - RHs, stopped to pit at end of 8 - went right through! Mulled this over for a min, having already read about Racin510s' dilemma (which was now mine - or was this a mass glitch?), went back at it, tried to pit at 4 to check it out - again a pass through. Circled the area dangerously, approaching the pit from various angles and still shoved out without the goodies. Frustrated. Was beginning to love this event and the chance to run all my LMs.
Saw AI pitting. Tried to get in line with them. They hate me. Suddenly pit crews sprout like wraiths. Everybody is getting their stuff; I'm shoved out.
Rage. Not quitting.
Left the console to come over to GTPlanet and see if 'news'.
Yeah. Solution, too. 👍

Thanks, WhoosierGirl.

Back to the console. :)

I jeep losing control in the slip stream and spinning at 200 mph (C60). Same thing in the Toyota 88. Also having a hard time not getting squirrelly under hard braking entering the first turn after the start/finish.

Add more rear down force. For every car I've tried, max DF on both ends is best. These cars get really unstable around other cars on the banking.

I had it set to Max at first. Then reduced it to 50%.

I haven't played enough recently. I tuned cars for 300 mph in the SSRX ???, but even there they had a difficult time in the slipstream

I had the same problems, tried for 2 Hours to solve them, then i gave up and bought a Peugeot 905B, the only one that remain stable at first corner even with worn tires. I won at my first attempt, with 2 stops (when tyres reach 4-5, i think it's useless to take more risks, i don't think you can make only 1 stop), i overtaked the leader 787B in the chicane of last lap (he had very worn tires, when mine were at 6). I didn't used any setup L, just maxed out downforce and set top Speed at 350km/h

Dominated the field with the Toyota Minolta 88C-V '89. I had @praiano63 's tune ready and only adjusted power to fit the regulations. Whole race with RH, first pit after lap 6, second pit after lap 11 for some fuel. I had so much lead at second pit stop that I managed to stay on first place. Took checkered flag with gap of several seconds to second place.

I just love the way this car handles, especially when braking. Extremely stable setup.

Another car that must be run. A car a day to keep the doldrums away. Got to put that high up on the list. This car was a killer at any 'Like the Wind' event.

Great info Whoosier, did you get the win with the XJ13? and could you share your setup?

Hi everyone!

I have bought the Nissan R92C thinking that it will be easy to win this event but I was surprised by how bad it handles! I've seen that some of you managed to beat the event with this car. Any specific settings? I am also using the Dual Shock 3, is that a big disadvantage?

PS: I am really happy that PD is giving us a challenging race. I hope that every seasonal events update comes with a challenging A-Spec race!

Tried your guys' advice, still little change in result. Hopped back in the C9 Sauber, lowered the rear brake ratio completely to zero and the front to 2. Lowered the acceleration value on the LSD. At the end of lap 4, I had to come in because my right rear tire reached zero, (right before pit lane thankfully). Had to pit again at the end of lap 8, but the tire wore itself down to 2. Had to pit a final time around lap 12, and my car spun out completely before the pit lane and pitched itself at an odd enough angle that it didn't even bother taking me to my pit to change my tires (mind you, this is with less than 3 minutes to go in the race). At this point, I've already dropped down to 14th place, and limping around the track with an effectively "blown" right rear tire, I just exited out of the race.

I understand that given the counter-clockwise nature of the track, the fact that half of it is a high speed oval, and the fact that the car high-powered and RWD that the right-rear tire would probably take the brunt of the wear. Still, I would think it wouldn't take nearly as much punishment as it seems to be doing when I drive. I don't know if I'm channeling my inner Andrea de Cesaris, or if Kaz is sneaking onto the track and poking a hole in my right rear tire, but I'm still having no luck.

Thanks for the tips though. I think they helped a little bit. Around what time/lap are people snagging the lead?

I did the race with the 2J and the rears were fine. I even only stopped once and it was the fronts then went first. I didn't do anything drastic like setting the rear brakes to zero. One thing I notice in GT6 is most cars, race cars in particular, have an unusual amount of rear toe. I usually tone it down to 0.25 deg and zero out the front and rear camber. Not sure if GT6 models tire wear due to camber/toe but no harm giving that a try.

This event is bugged and I refuse to play it until its patched. I overlapped a car that was in the pits (that made me 2nd last), then about 6 laps that same car and I pitted, I lapped him again in the pits. He exits the pits and now im all of a sudden last? WTH.

I don't like tuning cars. What cars are the most stable under throttle input? I'm also trying this with no TCS.

Maybe the old group C cars had more downforce since they had so much power, I don't know, but I got my easiest win in the Jag XJR-9. Bone stock, RH tires, one stop. Sure I ran out of fuel at the end, but I was so far ahead I coasted across for the win.

Thank you and Yes, used RH's and pitted end of lap 6 and 12.
Full fuel and then 25 gallons and just added my normal first try setup.

70/65

Off topic, how many marriage proposals have you gotten here on GTP? I'm guessing more than a few.

On topic, will be trying this one. One of my top 5 favorite cars in the game.

Anyone win with the Toyota T030 or the Audi R18 without power upgrades?
Those would be impressive victories.

I did it after a thousand restarts with the T030. The Car is good enough to make it an easy win, but the braindead AI ruins it most times. Went for 2 stops. Started on softs, pit on the end of lap 5 for another set of soft and then pitted on the end of lap 9 for racing hards. Could have gone for another set of softs but I restarted so many times and just wanted to be safe and sure I could take it to the end. Won by 7 seconds.

Fastest cars were the Pescarolo's, but they all went of track on the chicane.

Won in stock powered 787B by over 12 secs on my 10th attempt. Not any previous attempt finished either because of me spinning, or because of penalties. Not a bad event at all. SRF makes me sad but I had fun. Best lap 1'31". 2 pitstops in lap 6 and 11. RM tires all the way. That 1st corner when braking from over 340 kph...

The R89C didn't let me down. :)

I watched 17 minutes of your run. Nice driving, with a DS3 too, I think. I noticed you lost quite a few seconds in the pits after fuel and tires just sitting there until released. This is a "silent" penalty from entering the pits at over the 50 mph speed limit. Ask me how I know about this!! LOL. Anyway, you could have picked up quite a few seconds and places by slowing down just before the pit lane radar. On pit stop 2, you entered the pit lane sideways?!?! Ha Ha! But they didn't actually penalize you that much on that one. Maybe sideways scrubbed off the speed faster!
Thanks for the post, very educational.
Cheers, Pete

How quickly does the KERS regenerate? Are you able to use it for most every lap or just a few times for the whole race?

Finally tried it yesterday with the Nissan R92CP, won despite a last lap spin. Went with a three stop strategy on softs every four laps. I'll be trying the Jaguar next, unsure what the tire wear will be like on it.
