If you see it, shoot it - those are the rarest, and someone ought to get a photo of one before they're gone for good.
The owner has that, an XJS V12, and another oddball 80's car that escapes me at the moment. Must have done well 20 years ago.
M5PowerHe was driving like a crazy person too - but wouldn't you, if you had a Ford GT?
Perhaps, but not within such a crowded city.
M5PowerI saw two CLK55s this weekend, one convertible and one coupe, both W209 models. They're not too common - dwarfed in Atlanta by the E AMG, the SL AMG, and the CLS AMG, but I guess they're more common than I give them credit for - in Denver they're literally nowhere.
There's something about having a mid-range Mercedes convertible that seems to be contagious near where I live. You'd think the 3-Series convertible would be just as popular (or the Audi A4 Cabriolet), but Mercedes has a 2-1 lead over both of them.
M5PowerThese actually came out for the 2004 model year. They sucked - a minor bodykit, nicer wheels, and a four figure pricetag with no engine modifications. I saw one Saturday and laughed. They're rare, and for a reason.
I thought there were some suspension modifications, but that seemed to be contained the unsprung elements only (i.e., the wheels & brake pads). Either way, not worth the $5,200...plus $500 installation!
M5PowerAll CL55s are supercharged - it runs the 460hp 5.4-liter supercharged V8. Did it not have V8 Kompressor badges on the side? If not it could be a re-badged CL500. I didn't think people really were that shallow, but one of my best friends works at a BMW dealership and told me a guy comes in with the current 745i that he re-badged to be a 760i.
It could have been rebadged (I've been suckered before), but I couldn't see the side panels at the time. Also, early CL55's didn't have the "V8 supercharged" badge on the side (which coincided with the dual/single exhaust, as opposed to the dual/twin), because they weren't supercharged. Never underestimate what old junk MBUSA will hold on to.
M5PowerThey're rare - for the record, I post photos of every convertible 300ZX I see, and I don't think I've posted a shot since August. There are a few I know about in Denver, but I've yet to see one here in Atlanta. They were rare for a reason too - you think the 300ZX was heavy, just imagine a convertible - and it wasn't available with the Turbo. Still a cool car.
Base '96 300ZX: 3,287 lbs.
Convertible '96: 3,401 lbs.
Turbo '96: 3,502 lbs.
Not too heavy by today's standards (2007 350Z Convertible is 3,580 lbs.), but I'm sure it's as floppy as a TR6, making the ragtop quite pointless.
M5PowerCan't believe you already saw one!
It was so matter-of-fact, too. "Oh, there it is, behind twelve other generic sedans." *whirr*point*click* Next time I see one, I'm going to give it a real look-see. Volvo's design is moving in...interesting directions.
M5PowerYeah I'm skipping the Noble. That one'd be too easy.![]()
Wow. Silverton's nice.
Are you sure it was a GT-R and not just a well-done body kit? Not doubting you or anything, but it's obviously had some work done to it. Looks cool, regardless, and I don't know how much longer it will be before I see a GT-R anywhere.
