I just picked up a copy of drive club vanilla, thought id jump on board as ive always wanted to play this game.
As soon as I put the game in it wants to do all the updates, its about 19GB but the game wont start without the updates finishing.
Is there any way to play without updating first? I wanna experience the game how it was on release and compare it to the final version is as I heard there's a huge change.

Hi there - a bit of a late reply and you're probably all set up by now...but you can possibly opt, I think to decline the updates. Like I say though, you probably have it all downloaded by now.
If not, then set the PS4 into sleep mode (assuming you have your PS4 set to allow downloads during that mode) and let it complete overnight: hey, you've waited two years so far, so what's another day?
EDIT: in truth though, you can't experience it as the game was on day one as certain functionality was turned off in-game due to problems with the net-code. They turned it back on incrementally once they were sure it all worked fine.

Ive hit my download data limit for the month so I have to wait, but still its strange that this is the only game ive come across that wont allow you to play it without updating it.
I probly should have taken the PS4 offline when I inserted the disc, maybe the DC devs made that once the PS4 detects an update it wont allow the game to be played

Its only taken me 2 weeks but I just realised all the Lamborghini's are missing in VR 
To take the Huracan around Japan would have been great in the cockpit. It must be a license/DLC thing. Oh well, I am trying to think what other cars are missing, quite a lot of the new DLC is i.e Nissan Skyline, Civic Type R etc
@rom30s Have you tried going into notifications>downloads>pausing the update>Settings>offline then restart offline. You could be right though once the disc is inserted there could be software restricting play until all updated. It is so much better with the weather and tracks so worth the wait.
I would highly recommend the Season Pass (Bargain) for loads of free cars and content and also the under rated Driveclub BIKES, these have the best handling once used to it and very good detail on them. I enjoyed them even though I prefer cars in most games. 👍

Played a bit with DC VR on the PS4 Pro and the most noticeable improvement is that the blurriness has gone! The aliasing is still there though. I hope Sony will come with a patch to remedy that, but that is not very likely to happen.

I also just played about an hour with the new setup PS Pro and PSVR. My first thought was/is DriveclubVR still has to be patched? I do not see noticeable improvements (or my eyes refuse to function properly). So far not the shock and awe effect 
but still a lot of fun with the challenges though

Great races thx for the invites. Also other drivers have joined the challenging races and they are also good!
Graphics did improve but maybe I expected more...Both near and far distance show more crisp and clear image quality.

Thanks @BrainsBush @Denur I am in two minds still with spending out on the PRO
whether for me at this time it is worth the Upgrade just for VR (I only play DriveClub now I have watched all the demos) and have not found the right 4k TV i am looking for 10bit+ for HDR in my budget when I have a pretty decent High quality 1080p with nice deep blacks and colours and high HZ refresh rate..We shall see, your comments tie in with quite a few others online who say the change is minimal once you head off and drive, stationery a little sharper around the edges. If this is the case I may hold off until more driving games come out on VR and 4k enabled i.e GT Sport or Codies new IP.This was the VR version Doblo, I did check and it doesn't send them in the normal version

If anyone wants me to start the sprint challenges thread again (on normal DC) I will see what interest there is, I am not sure I have the time for the Same car, Same track, Same weather & Time photomode competition at the moment on the new tracks unless anyone else would like to take it over again @nato777

The only sound bug I know of is the Ferrari FXX's exhaust is unnaturally loud. Usually when it backfires, it's so loud that it startles me and can be heard over every single car nearby.
I hate Maserati's in Norway....seriously in the last seconds before the event ended finally a winning time
@Denur @BrainsBush VR-I made up some 100ths on the India Alfa challenge and also increased my time on the Caterham500 Sprint to 500ths behind you guys (chasing your tail on the ghost so close)
and the Maserati in Norway by a second or so but on DCVR I just can't get near the times you keep increasing, I guess as I get used to it on the wheel I may get faster..Well done you two are very fast Drivers (I think it is the PS4 PRO making all the difference) and I think I have reached my limit on these challenges.P.s @BrainsBush I am sure you are probably aware by now but as you are new to DC I thought I would mention it and it isn't too clear some cars have boost (Wombat Typhoon) or KERS/DRS i.e P1/GTR and you hold the X button for this not that you need to go any faster
Yes this has made me jump big time (when I have headphones on louder) on a full race of FXXs -It is the same on VR so maybe it is this Loud in real life
! But you are right no other car is anywhere near this loud on backfire although it is awesome to hear with internal cockpit sound on.👍

It depends per track but more steering and less braking works. Not always full throttle even on some straights. And look over your shoulder in the hairpin curves.
OT: With regards to the hardware: for some reason I always have a HDMI sync error in the first 5-10 minutes after starting the PS Pro and PSVR. Yesterday also suddenly the above mentioned sound issue. Had to restart only the PSVR to get the sound back. Not big problems but I will watch these in the coming days before reporting to Sony and/or in a Playstation tech forum.
For now: See you on the tracks again!
