The location of the host can make a difference too, it's not just about the speeds sometimes. But I agree we had a larger amount of problems than usual last night, half of the lead group just vanished! Great for my position but that was some good battlin' we had going.
I didn't see the lag people mention but it sounds like a mare, shame we don't get the full numbers in a room until race night.

yup good idea, you look like you have very good signal davey might be worth trying you as host.

Very interesting tool that speedtest.net. Especially because you can set the test server (and that I can see now that I'm not getting what I'm paying for). By default it takes the nearest server to your ISP but it's more interesting to know how fast your connection is to the others.
I believe that for gaming the ping is much more important then bandwidth. So we have to search for the lowest ping. Did some testing to several locations in Europe. Also used the servers from your tests since I assume they are the nearest to your location.

Yesterday we used a non-fixed host and last week a fixed host. A fixed host is better for slower connections because the client has only to send/receive data to/from the host. The host must have a very good connection though and ideally located in the middle of everyone else.

In DTM1 we had huge problems getting everybody connected using a non-fixed host setup so we began to use me as a fixed-host because of my ISP is almost directly connected to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange, the 2nd biggest internet HUB of the world. But i hope we can find someone else who can do this fun hosting job ;)

So do your testing and let's see who has the lowest overall ping?

every time I use that test I get different results lol I don't know if my internet is that reliable the speed seems to go up and down also I always have a better connection a night so be interested to do that test tonight and see what the difference is if there is any. Anyway I won't be doing the awsome job of hosting .... thank ****, ps BT suck donkey balls I am not sure what download speed I ment to get but it's unlimited broadband ( yet I have been charged for going over the limit before LOL) :(

EDIT - Also I did a few tests with different severs my connection is the same with holland, but ping is alot higher for porto its like 150 ping and US my connection is cut in half.

Well my upload speed isn't that fast, but i got to say that usually I play nascar in americans room, were we run pretty close to each other without a problem.

The funny thing is, all week I had set up rooms with chat on with no problems at all...

I use homeplugs, which is effectively wired. Gives me a very stable connection.

My pings:

I used Skipton for my speedtest as Manchester produces a very inacurrate result.

yeah my laptop is wireless and ps3 is hardwire maybe thats why...... I'll test ps3 l8r then to see if any difference

Personally i think we should use the same network that we did last round at suzuki which was pretty good atleast i finished the race :)

Daveys connection is looking pretty good to me. He hosts another GT5 race on mondays now too and that seems to run ok although not so many players race. Well worth a try I think, hopefully davey can stop watching pron while racing and stop his better half shopping lol :dunce:

Why were we using un-fixed host? We know we always get problems with it. So p***ed off. Might just pack the whole thing in.........aaaaaahhrrr

PRON!!!!!!! 💡

Missus shopping would result in her looking like this: :nervous:

So I'm pretty good to host if everybody else would like me to do so?

Do I get compensation for being d/c'ed!? :banghead:

I was pretty f:censored:d off!

I think we just need to get as many people as possible into a practice session and test the connections. I would suggest using Djdavey 1st as host to see if it's any better than symp as host. If we don't get this sorted it could ruin the series, because right now I'm not having any fun and I'm sure the people affected by the lag and being disconnected aren't having much fun either.

I'm about to switch my PS3 on npw so will set up a practice room if anybody would like to join. Also is there space for one more as my friend wooly51 would like to join?

Right then, tonight everyone who is registered for the series and reads this

Re-run of race 2 at 8:30pm - 9:00pm ish. No points as yesterdays race was the real race (unfortunatly). Just a race to see how we can improve the connections. Is djdavey is about then we can use his fixed connection.

Pass this message on to as many psn friends you have who are registered to see if we can get a good grid tonight.

I really need to race to get this out of my system as i look forward to the race all week and then get dc'd on lap 1.

Summary of my race:

Started 2nd on the grid, was happy with the times I was getting, and for the first lap and a half I was battling with Supra, Davey and Teeds, although Teeds was mostly staying out of trouble just behind us. It was mostly a drafting battle until we got to Indianapolis on the 2nd lap, where Supra got a wheel or two on the grass and span. Davey slowed down right next to him, leaving me nowhere to go and no matter how much I braked I was always going to go into Supra's side. I would of understood if it was a little slide and Davey was letting Supra go back past, however it wasn't and as a result I ended up with damage, but I guess that is just racing. After the forced pitstop I just continued to race and try to put in some hotlaps, passing Goruk who was on different tyres, until lap 5 where I made a mistake and went into the wall near the end of the lap, not too bad although I planned to pit on lap 6. I changed to mediums, and a few more laps later, on lap 10 to be specific, nethereal had caught up to me (presumably on Softs) and just got in front of me on the Mulsanne Straight, but coming into the Mulsanne corner I was right behind him. Into the corner I was on his outside, suddenly he swerves to the left and brakes hard, giving me no chance to react and severe damage. Quite frustrated at that point, especially as he seemed to come off with no damage and had no contempt for what he had done to me at all. And the rest of the race was just making it back to the finish. So do I still have to report this incident to Symp? All the details required are there. Hopefully next race will be a damn lot more cleaner than this. Even though I only joined this season, I agree with Goruk's idea to test newcomers in a race of some kind, in fact I wonder why this wasn't already enforced, considering your strictness with the rules.

Just to let you know JT psn is down if your not signed in just now then you won't get signed until sony fix it.

Sorry about the confusion Biffy, I was trying to be nice but I obviously got it wrong.

It's fine, it happens, annoyed me more than it should have but I can see why you did it, shows some respect, just wasn't the best time to slow down with 4 racers close together.

Yeah I felt I someone had spun me that's when I crashed and had damage pretty poor race really considering I have lost my lead in the championship next weekend I will hopefully come back stronger.

Technical glitch according to Sony technicians, don't know when it will be back up, Playstation is still connected to the internet though, was downloading the Assassin's Creed beta earlier offline.

Its not Scheduled Maintenance I know that much so they must have a problem with the servers or something, I'm signed in because I was signed in before this happened so the servers are still up so I've really no idea.

Out of like 100 friends 2 are online .......If someone manages to sign in I'll let you guys know as soon as I can.
