I haven't had the chance to play yet, but based on all the comments with shader compilation stuttering, I'm disappointed they haven't added some sort of pre-compilation that some other games have done. Hopefully that's something they can patch in soon, perhaps along with the VR update?

Sounds like they have something in the works for an imminent patch.

I'm still loving the game. I hope the imminent patch fixes some of the more noticeable performance issues. until the patch comes I've dialled down some less important settings like crowd and stage clutter to try and help smooth it out a bit more.

Just done the 2 asphalt Moments with the Hyundai and Puma R1's. Great Fun! 😊 The game has so much potential, Lets hope these problems get squashed soon.

Think I must be one of the only people happy with the visuals 😆. The car models, stages, lighting etc are all above DR2 to me. I think what some people could be seeing, particularly on Xbox is the dynamic res dropping occasionally below 4k, where DR2 stuck to 4k60.
I think maybe it's because the gameplay graphics on console look kind of flat and undetailed in places when compared to the replays. I suspect effects like ambient occlusion aren't being applied or are but to a lesser degree.

I guess if someone like Digital Foundry decide to bring out a comparison video for this game between console and PC they may be able to provide a more technical explanation.

I took a couple of shots while playing and they don't seem like Xbox One graphics to me.

  • Xbox impulse triggers not working, I'm finding this point so disappointing, it was perfect in DR1/2.0 why on earth has it not been utilised, or if it has it's so weak they might as well not bothered. This was the same in Grid Legends, it's this now the norm from CM ? I get so much info l feedback from them in DR2.0, gutted.
The rumble trigger feedback is working fine for me though maybe a little weak out of the box. Nope, you're right and that was the main pad rumble I was feeling, sorry. I can't find a setting to adjust or increase the rumble feedback on the triggers. Hopefully this game will get a patch to fix this and/or maybe support the new haptic Xbox controller once it's been released.
I will play more later. Oh, the first moments are so easy to Gold, I've even stopped the car mid stage to reset the seat position and still easily won. I hope this is just because it's early moments.
The Tänak one was much harder for me.

Yay 14 hour shift done 😀

Long one today but thanks for waiting, playing, sticking round, reporting bugs etc.

Known Issues and the bug reporting link are here for those that need them: https://linktr.ee/easportswrc

Team is actively working on the next patch and once it's ready we'll share more info.

Massive effort PJ, top work and amazing patience on the Discord. Congrats to you and the rest of the team on the first launch. 👏🏻

Unfortunately unplayable for me, even on Ultra Low settings with DLSS on Balanced, the stuttering is just too much. I don't have the best rig, but with a 5800H + 3070 laptop you'd expect at least Medium-High settings. Hopefully drivers/patches remedy the issues. Looks like my day off will have to be spent on Forza instead.

Well, the fact I’m taking a break to write this after loading it up 6hrs ago tells you what I think about it, it’s sublime and running very well on Ultra settings with DLSS enabled, there is occasional distant pop in but I’m talking minuscule amounts that are only noticeable on the few occasions you get second or two to look around, still need to tweak the wheel settings I feel but it’s such a joy to drive every car I’ve tried so far.
I‘m finding it ALOT easier to control the car with a wheel than I did in DR2.0 which is obviously up there with the best Rally games ever but for a semi noob like me it was just a tad too hard and this version is much more to my liking and skill level, probably not what the hardcore players want to hear but I am using minimal assists for now , I’ll try turning them all off when I’ve got a few more hours in…the career mode I’ve started is a bit confusing at first and the fact you can only choose one event per week to me is kinda weird and I’m never sure if I’ve made the correct choice each time…minor gripes though, I’m absolutely loving the game and now I’m off to love it some more ( cracks open a beer and kiss goodbye to decent times) 🍺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Just came out of my first 2hrs, did School 1-6 on all surfaces + completed gravel entirely before trying out a few random time trials that were suggested to me ('03 Impreza on Chile was 🔥).

Stuttering wasn't as bad as I feared it might be and although it was appearing somewhat randomly in places after initial load-in/rendering during the tutorials, it's not leaving the game in what can be described as an unplayable state (admittedly I haven't tried any of the 4 "problem" locations as yet). Running 1440p/RTX3070/Ryzen5800 and averaging a fairly rock-steady 70'ish FPS (aside from stutters) with settings at high or above, DLSS on quality.

As noted cars do seem to feel a bit more weighty compared to DR2, one time trial on Finland with the Cordoba had it cresting the smaller jumps without taking off excessively as well as being much more settled on landing. (Sample size of 1 run notwithstanding )

One thing I want to do some specific testing later is getting a feel for Tarmac, even with the adjusted steering values (DS4) I was struggling with trying to work out just how much grip I was getting from the School car...

unplayable too much stuttering LOL Alan Wake 2 working for me on max settings, what is this **** ****

Feared the worst going in after reading the wrc discord this morning but on ps5 it’s at least running smoothly aside the aforementioned hitches and stutters on certain locations.

Love the handling of the rally 1 and wrc cars, twingo and old puma felt great too.

But the graphics have a low contrast washed out appearance which I hope can get sorted, possibly an hdr issue?

Kinda reminds me of seb loeb rally, unfortunately for the graphics.

Early days and I’m sure it will come good, so overall better than expected after reading horror stories.

I found the PC HDR configuration rather lacking. No white point setting, and the "HDR Nits" setting could be 1000 or 2000, which was just strange.
I left mine on 50% HDR brightness, in absence of any better idea - I could clearly differentiate all the different white-grey-black blocks and the logo was visible against the black background.

Here's a screenshot (ignore the colour, snipping tool doesn't convert HDR to SDR properly):

Anyway, with these settings it wasn't low contrast, washed out. It looked pretty good. The only areas which were very bright were desert type regions where you'd expect less contrast, but the temperate rallies didn't have that problem.

So yeah, what does PS5 HDR configuration screen look like?

It's the same screen on Xbox and after whacking the HDR down to 30 it looks much less washed out to me and a lot closer to DR 2.0 in terms of the overall colour balance.

Same screen and settings on ps5, I suspect it’s a bug, at least unlike kyloton there’s a good chance it will be sorted.

Good idea. I changed from 50% down to 35% HDR brightness and it does look a little nicer now. Good shade, good plant colours, bright sun above. Very pretty.

I've only access to rally school gravel since download is still running. I absolute love how beautifully thé R2 handbrake works on my T150. Running with all assists off and dailing down all ffb settings to 50, I felt directly at home. Finished the gravel lessons and while it doesn't look highly detailed, I love the natural lighting. Game needs work though since it is pretty rough (only judging from driving school).

Anybody with the PS5 version of the game, could you let me know if there is Motion Controls are available for the steering settings on controller?
Found out the answer myself while playing through the rally lessons, there is no option for motion sense steering in the game

The problem I'm having now is that the character models look like they're suffering from impetigo. I can live with that though as everything else looks better.

I preordered the game on steam however I don't have early access? I thought i read that you get early access if you preorder?

I'm not a very demanding player, just a simple opinion after a few hours trying to configure my simple G27 steering wheel/graphics in the best way and comparing it only with what we were playing lately "Dirt Rally 2.0 and WRC Generations".

My PC is not a "top configuration", i5 generation 10, 16gB RAM, RTX 2060, game installed on an SSD.Comparing it to the games mentioned above where the graphics/gameplay ran smoothly...

in WRC Generations the car slid smoothly in a controlled "drift" in addition to other particularities in the gameplay (which many have different opinions).

Dirt Rally 2 has a slightly different but still very good gameplay. Now on EA WRC, I've read comments with players with hardware far superior to mine (and not getting fluidity (fps) and gameplay).I've read that many are playing calmly (perhaps optimizing the PS5, Xbox One or whoever has hardware (beyond superior).

I tried countless variables but the game doesn't flow in all of them...constant crashes, if you try to improve something on one side, it gets worse on the other. In the last configuration I tried, resolution 2560x1440 (minimum anti-aliasing) and the other graphics settings were either "low" or "ultra low".

I keep imagining, countless racing games on the market (even for a long time and constantly being updated) can use "hardware" that is not so advanced and now not even with the best machine on the market (the game flows)...

something that is not there right.

Of course there are good things, variety of routes, variety of cars, clubs, challenges. But what's the point. The proposal was not to "have the largest number of players" for the ultimate goal, good fun.For now, in the hours I've played (or tried to play), the result is frustrating.

Tried it out via EA Play, it has the potential to be a really fun rally game but they need to improve the performance, the stuttering and screen tearing was really bad for me on the SX at times.

I went into this game thinking "This feels oddly similar to a game I can't remember", and you have nailed which game the visuals remind me of. It doesn't look bad visually, but I'm not entirely convinced it's even a visual upgrade from Dirt Rally 2.0, and that game wasn't even optimised for current gen. :boggled:

Besides that, I find the gameplay really enjoyable. The handling feels very easy to get to grips with and even though I've just completed some of the rally school events and a few events in career, the game appears to have plenty of content to sink your teeth into.

My only wish would be for it to be wrapped in a more attractive package. Am I the only one who misses the stylish menus from Dirt 2 and Dirt 3? ;)

Just quickly ran some rally school stages, started out 1440P Ultra a most things on my i7 12700 and 3090Ti and it doesn't seem to run that great V sync to my 60fps TV(normally use VR). Getting notable stuttering especially off the line and beginning of a slide. Starting to tweak advanced settings down and it improved a bit. Right now only using 1080p and still notice stuttering.

Tweaking FFB too, on snow and gravel it feels "normal", still feels weird on tarmac. The rally school car on asphalt feels like it has like 180* lock to lock or something just way too touchy off center and like unrealistic amount of grip turning into a corner and yet in those 90 sharp left it can just washout and I get no steering warning. DR2 was a lot of guessing so I guess this is the same.
