If they had sticked to the EGO engine they couldn’t create the longer stages. So people would complain about that.

If EA WRC’s lasting legacy is reminding everyone what a phenomenal game DiRT Rally 2.0 is, then it could be worse. I’ve just redownloaded DR2 on my PS5, not because I’m disappointed with EA WRC but because it’s put me in a rally mood and I want to have both of them. I think EA WRC is a good starting point and it’ll improve and be added to over the next year or two. I don’t think it’s going to go ‘yearly release’, they’d have called it WRC 23 if that was the plan. I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops.

First thing I’d really like is a British rally, though. All these F2 kit cars from the golden era of the British Rally Championship and no Welsh/Scottish forests to drive them through? Criminal! I know the Central European Rally is the first/only confirmed addition post release but there will be more I’m sure.

Right now, I think DR2.0 is probably slightly better than this. But that’s a fully patched and DLC’ed DR2.0 vs a launch EA WRC with a few things still to iron out. It’s an exciting prospect this new game.

I started the career at WRC3 level and bought the GTI for one of the early side races.

Edit: I bought it for the FWD Regularity Championship in Week 3.
I just bought a Golf in my Junior career too. Just click on Garage and add it from the vendor. My benefactor Max Lucre wanted me to enter the FWD Extreme Challenge though so I'm stuck with the 205 until the event is over.

The career may be straight outta WRC (as I'd hoped) but for me it has more personality and is less tedious. I like that the invitationals are a complete rally and not a one off exhibition race too.

Keith the engineer just advised me that "if your co-driver says 'don't cut'... do NOT cut". This has to be the most invaluable rally advice I've received since that @PJ video which told me to "slow down at corners". Straight up.

Not going to lie, I'm pretty stoked with this game particularly having read all the negative comments from the early access crowd.

The performance issues (on PS5) are much less pronounced than I was expecting and the handling model feels like an evolution of DR 2.0. The graphics are also good, particularly the dust and particle effects.

My only gripe is that the FFB is still lacking, particularly on tarmac. The tarmac physics certainly seem improved over DR 2.0 but it's hard to really "feel" the improvement given the lack of feedback.

Hopefully a few patches will clean the game up, but otherwise it's a fantastic experience.

I’m having a blast playing this and now I’ve gotten a much better wheel than the G29 ( good beginner wheel but really showing its age now) the graphics are just fine for me and sometimes it looks absolutely beautiful but yeah I’d admit it doesn’t look truly next gen (I’m on PC) the feeling of throwing your car over insane jumps in Finland 🇫🇮 and not quite sure how it’s landing is addictive no matter how many times I end up in the foliage due to overestimating my ability, a few patches and this is gonna end up a classic..

New Moment on Acropolis in the 037 is great fun. 😊 👍

The 5h trial with ea subscription, the subscription is on sale for 1.50cad on psn.
Its auto renewing but i guess as long as i cancel it before one month i won't be charged more..

Worth a try it seems, unless there's a catch.
I hope it's 5h of gaming, not 5h from when you subbed or downloaded wrc.

Will check it out tomorrow maybe, curious to try it.
Sometimes it looks great on vids, sometimes bad, even in roadside replays.
Maybe it's a bad lod thing.

Im expecting a simcade gameplay from what I've seen and read, who knows.
But this will be a good way to check how much it be worth for me, how much fun, a challenge, and believable, in depth physics, road surface feel, cars handling, controls, ffb etc.

I have used the Trial system to have 10 hours early of FIFA and Madden games in the past. It's 5 hours of game run time. So don't spend too much times in the menu's! 😊 👍

PS5:
Me and a friend played several stages last night.
Love the FFB, sound and the physics but I really hope they patch the framerate and get rid of the screentearing.
On some stages it is really bad, fingers crossed for a patch next week.

Bio Bio stage in Chile is fantastic 👌🏻

Just tried to load up and stuck on EA login screen. There’s definitely stuff for them to iron out. I miss the days where games were released fully polished and bug free.

One thing I really don't like in this game is how they made the area right next to the driving surfaces.

Most tracks have either a continuous ridge/gutter next to it or a almost track long hump on both sides making it feel like you're in a water slide. This used to be the case in the snow stages in prior WRC games but here it's everywhere. In real life these will be there as well (given that rain has to go somewhere), but not uninterrupted for a full course length without any differentation (wider, narrower, deeper, shallower, stopping for a while etc.)

This is not the case in WRC Generations and prior while it punishes you just as hard if you get your wheel next to the track.

The other thing that drives me insande is the in-car views. They have some sort of glass emulation going on and in sunny stages the textures of the track (especially dirt/sand) get a "moire effect" where there is rainbows glittering across the entire "window" screen. I checked WRC Genration and it has lens flares but not this weird effect. The moment you go out of the cockpit view it disappears so it is something they're doing with the windshield physics.

I had zero issues logging in for the last week since I am playing. Maybe local issue. I am playing on Xbox and connected to Racenet.

This game isn't very good at launch on Xbox Series X.

I have been switching betweent this and WRC Generations and the differences are night and day.

There are so many annoyances:
  • Screen tearing
  • Frame rate drops
Yeah, it's a shame, as I prefer the handling and sound. Hopefully, they can fix it.

Wow Get up,have shower, load up Eko Acropolis’s rally in moments sit in rig and play,go for another shower, what a workout with the lancia, great combination showing this game off at it’s best, looks great, sounds fantastic, loving it

I did see it poppin up yesterday evening but I didn't have the courage to take it on 🤣

This afternoon maybe 🫣

The drainage channels are reflective of reality, that's how the roads are designed in many countries, and it's one of the (many) challenges of the sport. I love it (hate it when I mess up), it's realistic and that's what I'm looking for over WRC Gen

The way they are in the game is not realistic. They are uniform on both sizes without 0 variation and also for the entire track length. No real world course has that.

It's four stages. Don't crash the car
That's not a Moment. That's a whole saga...

This'll be music to @PJTierney 's ears, having now seen what the moments are, assuming they're priced similarly next time around (about £5 a season (bulk buy discount please ;) ), I'd be happy to pay the extra for the next release (or for "year 2" of this one).

Also, what's with the 6 weeks to complete them. Where's my FOMO? I can't cope  - actually this is how it should be done in my opinion.

Quick question for @PJTierney - will the later moments only be available for a few days as they'll only appear at the end of the "season"? Now that will be major FOMO

I believe all previous moments are available forever, regardless of seasons. They just move to an archive tab.
