Really appreciating that the event overview is available at the end of each stage as well as in the service area. This was something I complained about in DR 2.0 and I'm glad it's been fixed for WRC.
The drainage channels are reflective of reality, that's how the roads are designed in many countries, and it's one of the (many) challenges of the sport. I love it (hate it when I mess up), it's realistic and that's what I'm looking for over WRC Gen
The way they are in the game is not realistic. They are uniform on both sizes without 0 variation and also for the entire track length. No real world course has that.
Not sure which stages you're talking about. I'm in Greece at the moment and the trackside is constantly varying between drainage channels, rocks and none. It's certainly not uniform, at least at this location.

assuming they're priced similarly next time around (about £5 a season (bulk buy discount please ;) ), I'd be happy to pay the extra for the next release (or for "year 2" of this one).
Sorry wait what!? We have to pay more for these? When will that start, I thought it was same as DR2 ,we’re you got new challenges daily

Paid VIP pass is just for cosmetics. Everyone gets the moments every season.

If you preordered you have all 5 VIP passes already. Otherwise they’re £5.99 each season. Worth approximately 15 VIP rewards per season across car liveries, suits etc.

Was that for all pre-orders? If so I might need to have a word with Amazon, I haven't had any code from them 🤦‍♂️

Not that I'm overly bothered about missing out unless they include real life liveries in there

I also ordered a disc from Amazon, and from what I have read elsewhere, there is no pre-order for the disc version, so no extras.

I'm just looking at the product description and it lists these under the features:

Code:
• EA SPORTS™ WRC - Free Rally Pass Season #1: Earn XP in game to unlock a range of items to customise your driver, as well as decals to use in the new Livery Editor.

• EA SPORTS™ WRC - VIP Rally Pass Season #1: Take your Rally Pass experience to the next level with this season’s VIP Pass! The VIP Rally Pass gives you access to an additional 3 helmets, 3 race suits, 3 sets of gloves and 3 caps as well as 3 liveries to use with the Ford Puma Rally1 HYBRID, Hyundai i20 N Rally1 HYBRID and the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 HYBRID.

Makes it sound as though it should be in the game, I always thought pre-order was any order that was put in before release.

Couple more liveries for today. The Legacy is a bit rough.

That last stage in Greece with the 037 in moments has been thé most epic expérience I had in WRC. Yes there is stutter but man THIS IS WHAT RALLY IS ABOUT !! F... awesome 🤟
I didn't read the info on it yesterday so didn't realise it was 4 stages. So many hairpins, no time to have a rest, it needs some concentration. Really enjoyed that one.
Shame the frame rate suffers a bit with the headlights on though

My first impressions are generally positive, though I would need many more hours to try all the features and cars to give any worthwhile feedback.

  • The menus look like typical EA. Dry, stale, and old-gen like they haven’t changed in literally decades. Codemasters had such great menu design and now it’s just a shadow of it’s former self.
  • If I have to hear “E-A Sports. IT’S IN THE GAME” once more in my life I’m going to lose it. Retire that slogan pronto.
  • Menu music was immediately turned off. Again CM was so good at this. Apparently gone too.
  • Can I turn off the announcer? Annoying after the first listen. Can’t stand hearing about the upcoming event like I’m a spectator. I’m participating in the event for crying out loud.
  • Crew chief is cringe worthy. I need to turn him off too please.
  • While certainly not the worst codriver ever, he’s near the bottom. Must have been too expensive to pay a real codriver. Bring back Grist and Mills.
Car selection is great, the wheel FFB is very good on the few surfaces I’ve tried, it’s basically just like DR2.0 with a little more grippyness? I lowered some of the FFB settings for TGT-II as the default is way too strong in all respects.

Button recognition is a complete conundrum using R383 rim. I basically have to learn and memorize all the buttons from scratch. Not good.

Definitely like the event customization. Thank you thank you 😊 and I’m sure the career mode is good once I get the chance to try it. And Regularity Rally is a nice addition. I’m guessing about 0.1% of the user base will try it though..

The number of rallies is great, and the choice of seasons is welcome though I haven’t explored what summer in Sweden is like.

Screen tearing is slight but not game breaking and there is noticeable stutter on PS5. Hopefully this can be ironed out but we’ll see. Definitely a step down from DR 2.0.

I’m sure I could go on, but this game will take some time to digest. Looking forward to it!

To be fair to EA, the menus would like have been this way regardless of them being the publisher. The game is Codemasters developed and started life as Dirt Rally 3.

Regarding the co-drivers, assuming you’re using the English ones, they are both real, active co-drivers. Jonathan Jackson and Kirsty Riddick. I think they’re good, much clearer and more accurate than Phil in DR2.

I do not have any codes in the features of the product listing. Amazon USA, PS5 disc.

Didn’t realize the codrivers were real people. Haven’t tried Kristy, but can’t agree that JJ is clearer than Phil. Personally I thought PM was the clearest to hear and follow of all time. Almost unrealistically so.

I find the Co-Drivers fine. I also appreciate the addition of the Slight L&R and Slowing/Braking calls. Like I have said though, I need an even earlier timing option for me to feel 100% comfortable with it.

Part of that is due to the way they recorded Phil's pace notes, they actually strapped him into a chair and had him read out the notes over a few runs of varying intensities. It's something that we ended up getting spoiled by in DR2 because, while not always 100% clear, the notes themselves had a natural flow to them when you ended up driving "in the zone" so to speak.

I don't know how they recorded the pace-notes for this game but in WRCG and EAWRC it's more noticeable that they're being delivered in "blocks" so to speak, a bit more stop-start.

Jonathan's delivery may be less of a dramatic performance than Phil's but I find him and Kirsty a lot more intelligible on fast sections even if the default timing is on the late side.

Meanwhile I just completed the FWD Extreme championship in Greece and boy, is it easier to get around hairpins with gravel medium tyres than with softs. It's much easier to get the back end to swing out. Maybe it's the new physics 'cos in DiRT Rally 2.0 I was wedded to soft tyres because of the much slippier handling.

Moving to Rally2 class in Finland even the super soft tyres are much less grippy in the wet so it looks like those weather and atmospheric conditions aren't just for show.

I don't understand why the official game has so many tire compounds. There should only be hard and soft. For the current three WRC tiers, at least.

They were recorded in motion rigs similar to Phil’s. I think the biggest and most notable difference is that Phil recorded at different intensity levels to make the speed in game. I don’t think they’ve done that this time.

They’re also a lot more active than Phil was at the time and are much more used to being thrown around so the delivery comes across as calmer.

It seems that the game has a problem when using DLSS. My GPU is a 3080 and I'm playing on a 4k TV, so I would like to use DLSS.
But when I enable it, the frame rate seems to be lower than 60 fps, even though Afterburner and Nvidia Overlay show 60 fps.

Has anyone else had the same experience and can confirm this? Is there a workaround to solve this?

It might be more realistic but I think it'd make the game less fun.

Lol. You lived under a rock? 😉

I've had no issues with DLSS personally. It gives good stable frame rates.

Your comment about "frame rate seems lower than 60fps" probably isn't related to DLSS but instead to the stutters people have been experiencing. They happen even with frame rate counters showing stable framerates, which sounds like your issue.

Most of us have just had a few shader recompilation stutters when driving new tracks for the first time, but some have been hit with worse stuttering. I don't have that so can't really help you fix it. I can just recommend making sure you have the latest Nvidia drivers and normal things like that.
