How many copies will GT Sport sell?

  • Total voters
    273

I am interested to know the total global sales figure so far, including digital copies which are likely to be large.

Also, 160 cars is a lot. Maybe not in comparison with some other games, but its still a lot.

My prediction is sales of GTS of 4 - 6m, FM7: 2 - 3m, and PC2 : 1 - 2m.

Guys the UK Figure is good no matter how you look at it. It sold 3x Forza 7 and 2x GT6. This is solely at retail. GT5 wasn’t available to download on PSN and digital is much much bigger than even 2013 let alone 2010. With digital I’m betting GTS got a decent chunk(20% maybe) more than retail.

I, for one, am glad it is doing well. That demo must have helped.

The digital proportion is about 40% now, I believe, so if the physical sales were about 90k as I read earlier, it would be total sales of around 150k which seems pretty good. As you say, the demo probably helped 👍

It's 80,000. EA expect downloads to reach 40% by the end of the year. Sony haven't said anything about their downloads.

It's good but it is still 3 times less than GT5. That's 300%.

Actual number for UK first week is 73.688 according to KennyLinder from NeoGAF.
82k+ according to Bruno MB, adjusting to 100% tracking I assume.

EDIT: NPD is out too, PCARS2 didn't make TOP 20.

Its Gran Turismo. Its should be doing 3 or 4 times their numbers.

It did:

GTS 80-90k
FM7 < 30k

Bear in mind this is in the second strongest region for XB1. Things will be even more tilted in GT's favour around the world.

GT5 did 2 million in its first week, and 4 million in its first 4 weeks of sales. This is what GTs should be matching, not Forza or Pcars.

GTS is magnitudes larger than FM and PC. Matching GT5 was impossible, as the racing genre is no longer what it used to be in 2010.

Far from it, Forza would do it if it was on PS

Hahahahaha. Citation needed.

Racing games were NEVER what GT was. PS3 gens racing games more or less sold the same as PS1s. GT managed 10m seller on 3 different generation of hardware, NO other racing games ever hit that high a sales. GTsport will never sniff 10m in sales not because racing genre has changed but because the game sucks. All your "racing games is not what it used to be" is just baseless excuses for mediocre GT games selling low. Look at GT reviews, sales dropping is only natural.

It's not the racing genre but Gran turismo is NOT what it used to be (reviews prove this fact), Forza is the GT of current days. Unfortunate for it its stuck on the weak selling xbox.

Basic math, X1 sales are about 30m with 19m in US. PS4 sales are over 63m with only 22m in US. There is 40million PS4 in markets very positive towards racing games, compared to only 12m X1s at best. http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/ Last need for speed sold 3.5 times better on PS4, so wild guess Forza would do easily 2 to 3 times better sales on PS4. That 2.5/3 million selling Forze is sniffing close to 10m on PS4.

Forza has the quality the reviews and the content for massive sales, it's just on the wrong platform for massive sales.

The last GT that sold 10 million was released in 2010, 7 years ago. So yes, there clearly has been a change in the racing market as pretty much all franchises have shown decline.

GTS was never going to match GT5 simply because its a new turn for the franchise. Reviews don't dictate what gamers like, otherwise Forza Motorsport would not continue its struggle to sell a fraction of GT and continue to decline.

Its laughable to say Forza is the GT of current days when it lacks the driving feel, the artistic design that PD employs in their UI, photomode, replays and presentation, lacks the small details GT prides itself, and most importantly lacks the car culture GT has cultivated. In fact it seems the only attributes you have to say this is having a large car and track count, showing you're incorrect perception of GT as a franchise.

Funny you talk about excuses and then go to blame F7's poor sales as an Xbox problem. No one is buying that excuse when Horizon is able to do vastly better on the same platform.

You can't do maths with such poor logic: sales will increase linearly with install base. Furthermore you decide to use incorrect figures. FH3 is the only Forza to do 2 million+

All in all, your post is largely disillusioned from reality.

It's not really laughable. It lacks the driving feel of GTS because it's a completely different game, but as far as physics are concern, they are at the same middle-entry level, with very, very easy accessibility within the driving model, but just enough to have that authentic feel to them. Regardless of which, the aim that GT was of the past is very much being accomplished by Forza, as it sits, regardless of how much you like the interface of a different game. Difference between the interface, photomode, replays, and presentation doesn't change the fact.

GTS is never going to match GT5 because it's a mediocre game lacking content and does not even work if you are offline.

Funny how Forza is in decline yet FH3 out sold the 3 previous installments. It's not an excuse it basic logic, X1 currently sits at 1/3rd the user base the Xbox 360 achieved. Maybe you should educate yourself on how Console User base affects game sales before you post more. F7 is selling less on less than half the user base GTS is selling on. But hey in GT defence logic market realities don't matter.

Review don't dictate what people like ? ohh really yet isn't that funny since the lowest reviewed GT also has the lowest Amazon user review of any GT EVER. 2 stars, never has GT stooped so low.

As far as personal opinion goes i find calling GTS a Gran Turismo is more laughable. But hey you have yours.

By the way F5 F6 FH3 all did over 2m in sales. As did FH2 but that's combining both 360 and X1 sales.

How about post some facts some numbers, not just your wishful baseless opinion ?

I behonest GT5 is the most over hype gt game release on the PS3. It was have a lot thing that go with it. Promise a lot stuff that never made cut in the game. People bough it, believe it after good well from GT4. Funny thing Sony need GT5 anyway since they losing against Xbox360. They need sell console to match the 360. People just bough for the hype from the game. Even not reviews so great compare to 4 and event have more content.

They all seem to be sitting at 2 million, or more.

Citation needed. FH3 became the best selling Forza at 2.5 million. I haven't seen a single announcement of recent FM reaching 2 million.

Forza Motorsport. Try again. And yes its been declining since Forza 4 lol

No I think you need to educate yourself. 2 x install base does not automatically mean 2 x game sales because people are interested in different games.

Review don't dictate what people like ?

No they don't. A review is an opinion by an individual. If you want to see the big picture look at sales, short term and long term.

Forza or Horizon is still Forza just like GTSport or GT is still just GT or whatever the next NSF is it's still NFS.

I never said double the user base means double the game sales so i have no clue what you rambling on about there ? care to explain.

If you want exact sales retail and digital you could always ask on turn tens forums or email them, they seem pretty open to the community.

Nope, been some time so finding the GAF post with the numbers is going to be hard since I don't know exactly what to search but from memory Forza 4 sold ~4mi+, with Forza 3 close to that. All X360 titles sold less than 3mi though, not sure about FH2.
And the X360 sold "the same" as PS3.

GT sold 20mi during PS3 era.

So yeah, this discussion is a waste of time, you should know that! He's using VGChartz too.

Checks the thread title...............................

.....................nope not a Forza thread or a GTS vs Forza thread.

Please get back on topic and stop the off topic flame battle or people will be taking a holiday from GTP.

That reminds me, I heard the following in a casual chat with a few Turn 10 devs back in 2016 (it was at Le Mans of all places):
Apparently XBox One needs to sell 5-10 games per console to make a profit on each individual console while Playstation 4 needs to sell 2-3, apparently the consoles are deliberately sold at a loss otherwise they would be too expensive for consumers. It was a similar story with the previous gen of consoles except XBox 360 only needed to sell 3-5 games per console, the Nintendo Wii apparently needed to sell 10 games per console.

With that taken into consideration, and if those Turn 10 employees were telling the truth, it makes you wonder just how well the XBox is really doing.

Doesn't surprise me at all, they're selling well over the 3 games per console mark, also it's incredible how they sell more units than XBox despite advertising a whole lot less, I think it's because they know how to pick and choose their spots strategically for getting the value out of it.

No, Horizon is an arcade racer made by different devs.
VGChartz is not a valid source. Try actual data analyst sources such as NPD (US), GFK (EU) or MC (JP) or company releases.

You took a ratio of one game across two platforms and then decided to multiply the factor difference to Forza.....what you did made zero logical sense.

Lmao, when a company is impressed by a certain software's performance they will reveal it themselves: FH3. The only milestones we have ever gotten from T10 are 1 and 2 million.

Furthermore, we have actual sales data from GFK and NPD showing how small Forza Motorsport really is.

No need for 3 games, that statement meant the console hardware itself was sold at profit. That's why Game division has been extremely profitable, nothing they are selling, except VR Headsets, is sold at loss.

Japan numbers are out:

Thats surprisingly low for what preorders and retailers predicted (180k-200k). Wonder if Famitsu shows a difference.

I think Famitsu numbers are generally lower.

150k in 3 days is good in my opinion

It's below average in terms of "high profile" japanese games on PS4, healthly above average in terms of PS4 software in Japan in general, and bottom in terms of historic, "mainline" GT sales in Japan.
