Aaah, that question. I forgot about Gareth Southgate.

PS Trillian has an update.

Predictions for:

Greece vs France
Sweden vs Netherlands
Denmark vs. Czech Rep.

Those three matches won't be ruined by an incompetant referee.

Scores? Who cares?

Sunny, do Canada have an international soccer team?

I think there is, not sure though. I recall hearing somewhere that there ranked 93rd in the world rankings or something. But there not very competitive to say the least. 👎

I don't know where to start...

A shocking referee who should have allowed the campbell goal as there was **** all wrong with it

Mr P
The ref needs a kicking for that disallowed goal 👎

what a complete wanker! .... :grumpy:

<<<< Gutted beyond belief. The goal England scored that would've won the game should not have been disallowed. The Swiss referee was just being anal because England demolished Switzerland and knocked them out of the tornament.
That was a foul anywhere in the world. The keeper can NOT be touched in that area and he was impeded to reach for the ball.

Nice that he realised he could book someone who wasn't English in the second half too. The defender that brought Vassell down should have been off - tackle from behind and he was the last man.
Before you blame the referee for that, think about Cole.
He should have been booked earlier and by the time he saw the first yellow card he should have been expelled.

Maybe tomorrow when you all calm down, you'll realize that you didn't lose because of the referee...
But I agree Urs Meier isn't a good one.

EDIT: Famine, I only now saw your predictions for this game. You shouldn't have said all that nonsense...
But at least you got this right... :

Neither team deserved to lose last night. Why?; England did magnificently to keep Portugal out for all that time, Rui Costa's howitzer was a match winning goal in anybody's book, Portugal's come back from 1-0 down to 2-1 showed great character, England's last gasp equaliser showed the same resiliance, Big Phil's substitutions were a masterstroke and Ashley Cole kept Ronaldo quiet for most of the game. The referee had a generally good game, in the circumstances, and with no complaints from the players. In the end England lost on penaltys taken from a less than perfect penalty spot, but Portugal had the same problem too. You can't take anythign away from the Portuguese, it was just meant to be. Now that my lot are out, I'm going to give my backing to the Portugal players, who I would liek to see go all the way to the final.

Oh, and a tip of my hat to both sets of fans last night. It seemed liek a great atmosphere in there.

:ouch:

Moral of the story?

Patriotism + Predictions = getting it wrong :P

The "sandy" penalty spot shouldnt be an issue. Both teams had to use it, so it was equitable. Poor Becks. I bet the press really go after him now.

VIVA PORTUGAL So glad they won against England. I bet its a France and Portugal final with Portugal winning and getting revenge from 2000.

Yeah mate whatever - I think if the ref would have disallowed a goal like that scored by Portugal you wouldn't have even posted in this thread. I bet if the ref saw the "incident" again he'd have given the goal. Terry jumped higher than the keeper could reach so it looked like he was being impeded.

Whatever - England played the better football but Portugal had the better ref and we all know which is going to help you win the game.

You are right - It goes something like

"We played our hearts out and should be proud of ourselves BUT we're out of the competition"

We always play our hearts out and still get knocked out - Its not good

seen from a neutral point of view that game last night really was the best i´ve seen in a long time. shame for :dopey:.

GO CZECH TEAM

I agree, winning and losing aside whilst we were watching it we agreed that it was one of the best international games for a while.

All of Englands games have been quite entertaining this time round.

Yeah, England played better football my arse... I reckon both teams played equally great and that the ref might need a little kick in the nuts to straighten him out.

Yay Portugal!

Well Dodge - I agree that the ref needed something to sort him out but as Im English we'll have to agree to disagree about who played better !!!

Portugal played better, the only thing we did fairly decently was defend and even that was shaky sometimes.

There is your (read English fans) problem. Most, if not all of you, seem to have this great sense of entitlement. "England played great!", "England deserved to win!". Bollocks.

No doubt, England have great players but face it, in world terms, they are only slightly above average. If they had such a "great" game, they should have cantered it, especially after going 1-0 up after 200 seconds.

Take my view. If out national team loses by less then 2 goals, it is a moral victory :)
