F.I.T.T. Rally and Street Tuner Challenge by MCH

It's the 2 tunes, 1 being rally that's holding me at bay atm.
Surely a rally tune will take me longer, and it's 2 tunes. I'm still not saying I can't, just that I'm not going to sign up until I know I can.

Rally took me more time, but in the end I found that the tuning techniques aren't much different. As for the tarmac tune, isn't that more about which car? By now, most of us can do a pretty good tarmac tune in an evening.

I will extend the tuner deadline if it will increase the number of tuners.

@MCH extending the tuner deadline a week may net you a few more tuners. Also it will likely improve the quality of the tunes entered as a couple of tuners that have expressed interest but not 100% committed yet are going to be under a very short timeframe with the current deadline.

I worked a very short time on a tarmac tune yesterday and have....uh, bought it's counterpart. :embarrassed: I will see how much time I can get to work on it this evening and next. The fact that it is Eiger for the paved track is helpful since I am still used to running it from the classic event. I can probably get to a good place there quickly as you said but the rally will take some time to experiment. Will keep you posted as to my progress.

I can add a week. I am a bit time pressed this week too having a three year old at home and a really busy job at the moment. Only one set of tunes is posted so far.

I have gotten a 2:07.xx on G Trail Reverse, don't know if that's good or not.

At Eiger I think I had a 1:11.xx or something can't quite remember that one.

How did you get a 1:11 on the short track. Man that is a good time. Can't wait to drive your tune.

So god awful at both of these tracks. I'm running 1.14's and 2.08's but with errors and bumps and whatnot.

I am still high 1:15's on the short track. I am not the best at tuning 4wd on tarmac. I did get one car down to a 1:13.9 but it's dirt counterpart is not a very good rallycar.

I am hoping for another three tuners so I have made a couple of changes.

1st - Tuner deadline extended one week. Now August 20. This pushes tester deadine to September 4.

2nd - I have removed the rule that all tuners must test. There seem to be more people who want to test drive good rally car tunes than those who have the time to tune them.

If there are other tuners who want to enter, please let me know. If we have ten submitted tuner car pairings, we can have test groups A and B. Testers will only need to test 5 sets of car. Well, unless some want to test them all.

Okay, a quick try at tuning for the rally and I have come to this conclusion.... I suck!!!! One green lap of 2:25.xxx is all I can do :grumpy: I'm pretty sure I hit every wall, stalled the car up the hill, and made the locals very angry with my landscaping of the countryside . With the extra week I will try and get a tune, but I would like to say sorry in advance to all the testers... oh crap that includes me :dopey:

1:11 was just off the top of my head, It probably wasn't 1:11 lol. I will check again when I get some time.

I was really busy with at work last week so never got a chance to play GT5, but I should be able to get on it this week so the tuner deadline extension is very helpful for me, Thank you.

You'll be fine. It's probably worth testers taking the time to learn the track, knowledge will lower your times by some margin. Obviously a well sorted car helps too..!!

I started around the 2:20 mark and I'm hoping to breach the 2:00 mark. Got a couple of seconds to find first :indiff:

A 1:11 is entirely feasible in a 4WD car. My FWD entry has made it into the 1:12s a couple of times. Although I've had to rework the suspension a bit since then (scary tail-happy oversteer down through the essesses) and now the car sits comfortably around the 1:13-4 mark.

I can't urge people more to try building a car for this shootout. It really is as straight forward as tuning for tarmac. All the same principles apply. I want to see some of the regulars in here, knocking out cars for the community. There's no need to test now, there's an extra week to build cars and the water is a lot warmer than it looks, so get yer speedos on :mischievous:

Now i have my car waiting me to write it down in theard but iam so scary from the comment i will recive it on my car she is very slow, old and not competitve with the car here because i choose the hard way Clueless roll so what i will say my car runing 02:17.xxx in Rally road and for the street car its runing 01:15.xxx . So what ever the extra point she will earn it when enter by it i will lose it in the lap time . What i will do ? I will take the risk or change my car and start from the begining or what ??

I am at 2:01 with the rally tune and 1:14 with my street tune. I don't think there is anything more to gain with the rally tune.

I don't think that PD spent much time programming rally. I honestly think that they just made dirt tires one notch less grippy than comfort hard tires and changed the look of the racing surface.

My car stubbornly refuses to go below 1.14. Struggling to even get that at times.

Take the risk..!! We've all done it at least once, and I've certainly done it a few times :mischievous:

Agreed. I initially went at tuning the suspension in a "rally" fashion (high and soft). I soon gave up and tuned it like a street car. Worked out alright...

Yes! A 1.13.8xx! Really struggling with the stupid thing though, damn that understeer...

My rally tune is high and soft, and it's working out ok, I just hope that the slow times are down to my driving and not the car.

Still having a major issue with my tunning :grumpy:. I may just have to be a tester for this one :indiff:

Sent you a PM with some tips. If those don't get you pointed in the right direction then pick a car that you think will kill us just to torture the testers. I dare you to enter the Blue Bird.

Another thought for Krenkme or others who may be struggling with rally a bit. Let's look at the points system. It is meant to keep things really close. Below are two scenarios based on fast laps that we have heard so far.

Rally Points
201 100.0
202 99.5
203 99.0
204 98.5
205 98.0
206 97.6
207 97.1
208 96.6
209 96.2
210 95.7

Street Points
112 100.0
113 99.1
114 98.2
115 97.4
116 96.6
117 95.7
118 94.9
119 94.1
120 93.3
121 92.6

A 2:03 in rally could still be worth 99 points if the top time is a 2:01 and in street a 114 is still worth 98.2 points. Add photo mode bonus point and driver's choice and you could still win overall. This tuner challenge is a mix of fast laps and fun to drive. Don't get too discouraged. Just build something fun and hope for the best.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try them later today.

I tried the Bluebird. Great time and handling, untill the hill climb :grumpy: top speed was around 35-40mph

I forgot about the scoring you have set up. I feel a little better know :dopey:

Finally, a 1:13.989! I can run 114.0s all day long, but just can't find more corner speed with this 4wd. How do you guys get these 4wds to go so fast? Where is Roj when I need him?

I tried that mad MR Renault 5 thing, stock. Crashed on the up hill section and couldn't get the damned thing to move again..!! Just sat there, digging a trench with the back wheels.

Pass, that's why I stuck with FWD. The biggest gains in time are definitely down the hill from the start/finish to the bridge. I've worked hard to make my car rotate both freely and in a controlable fashion. I've probably sacrificed a few tenths on laptimes in an endeavor to make the car useable, but hey, I'm never going to win the Golden Sock for fastest time anyway...

In a FR car you don't want to break the rear end loose when cornering because your trying to maintain traction and accelerate out of the turns. With a 4wd you can let the rear end slip out a lot more, as long as you have it set up right, because the front end will help pull you through and accelerates you similar to a FF.
While I'm not saying you don't need to try and get a quick rotating car that grips through the corners, the way you drive a 4wd will be a bit different as you can usually be a bit more aggressive on corner entry and then use the power going to all four wheels to get you pointed where you want and accelerating quickly.

So many tuners try to set up 4wd cars to handle like FRs and a lot of drivers claim that's what they want, but really if you want to get the best out of most of them you need to tune and drive them to take advantage of their drivetrain instead of neuttering it.

Mine isn't 4WD.
It's FWD. :P

Most of the 4WD cars I've messed with have ended up driving like FWD cars..!! So far, this is the only time I've really enjoyed setting up a 4WD car, feels pretty special when you get it dialled in on dirt

I'll see you on the track then, Sir :mischievous:

Down to mid-2'03s and 1'15.2s with my weapons of choice. My tarmac tune is giving me more headache than dirt, which I did not expect. :odd: I haven't messed with the trans yet but I just can't get it to turn.

This is what I am trying to do but I've never had to make a car do it on purpose. I'm usually trying to stop it from happening.
