F1 2015!F1 2010-2016

PCARS falls into the RFactor, Assetto Corsa and IRacing category. None of these are full on simulators but are a lot more realistic at varying levels than the quick thrills of Codemaster's F1 games, which fall into the the Grid, Driveclub category of games. None of this is bad or good, but you just can't compare the F1 games to PCARS.

I don't think F1 2015 falls into DRIVECLUB category, have you ever played DRIVECLUB? It's as arcade as it was able to be.

I gotta add I did agree with you about comparing two games it's useless, not about PCars is sim and F1 2015 arcade, that's ridiculous, PCars was going to be a multiplatform alternative to GT and Forza and it's going to be nothing but a €70 digital brick as soon as GT comes to PS4...

I think we don't play the same game, also I think you are one of those who think PCars is the best game ever, and it's the best one, the best marketing product ever sold, that's right.

It is less than it was going to be and it's not the only one, too many useless settings without any "standar" settings which made the game unplayable.

I think the physics, feel and racing in PCARS is great. Best "game" ever? No. It's flawed. I think the Codemaster's F1 IPs have been better "games", in the past. I've enjoyed them, but I do think it's time that someone else like SMS had a go with the F1 license. I would like a deeper, more realistic, raw and visceral experience than what Codemaster's provides.

Yes it does, not within the vehicle setup page; but it does within the race. It is in the same menu it has always been in race, the same one where you can select your tires and change the fuel usage levels. And along with the "downforce" selection.

I stand correct then. That's great. Had heard from various sources that it didn't... Cheers.👍

Your joking, right?

Just to be clear, I don't mean anything bad here. But SMS would be the worse choice to make an F1 game, or any game connected directly to an official motorsport by license.

I would much rather see Playground games work on an F1 title, as they would be the best bet for producing something good. They have staff who used to work at various other studios, including codemasters. Hell, I would rather see EA and Dice work on one over SMS; and that is saying something.

That's not happening, at least not how I understand your sentence, for the same reason the Williams-Martini livery is modified and some features disappeared. F1 games must remain approachable by a large audience, the F1 audience.
That's not my opinion I'm expressing but what is actually going on.

Are you being serious?

pCARS is good at motor racing and would be one of the best out there to go with.

I rather not, sure they have a lot of resource with T10 but if motorsport is like that and drives like their games do then it is not much fun IMO. Your other option is funny given EA and DICE only motorsport title they worked on IIRC was mainly done by SMS.

Think PD want the license sometime in the future, that would be interesting.

I'm grateful that Codemasters are making F1 games as they seem to do a great job of having decent looking tracks and accessible physics. Don't know how financially viable it is for them but credit to them for sticking with it and giving us a half-decent multi-platform title in probably a period of uncertainty.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EA_DICE#Games_developed

This is the full list of games in which dice have worked on, including RallySport challange, STCC and STCC2, NASCAR Heat, and the classic Midtown Madness 3 on the original Xbox. Dice have extensive knowledge of how to make a decent racing game. They have the same level of experience as SMS do, if not more from being a bigger studio with a bigger pool of staff to pull into development. Not to mention EA were on to a winner way back when with ISI and the old F1 games of the late 90's.

As for playground games, they have staff from a wide range of game dev stuidos. Some of which would have worked on some pretty decent racing games of the past. Only thing I wouldn't want to see, is the F1 games becoming locked out to a single platform. For example the Xbox or the playstation. That happened once before when it became a Sony exclusive after EA lost the F1 license.

Also, project cars is good at racing....... when the game actually works. Dont be fooled into thinking I do not what I am talking about here, because I have played the game for long enough. The game has some major issues that have carried over from the earliest of the dev builds, even now with the 2.0 update. I will not lie and say that it isnt improving, but the game should never have released in the state it is in. If you honestly believe that SMS could do a good job with a licensed F1 game, that is fair enough, and is your opinion on the matter. But at the moment I see them as the worst possible choice for that sort of project. I am not just going to write them off though, because in the past they have made and worked on some of the best racing games available. Which are still fun to play even to this day. So I know they have it in them to release a good racing game, which means they have it in them to fix project cars.

Just picked this up for $26, brand new.

Will report back in a few.
Tempted to buy myself at similar price but don't think I will play it much so decided against it for now. Will be interesting to see how you find gameplay if you do play it that is and not run just benchmarks and check the graphics out. ;)

They are all quite old games, latest one was done by SMS with Dice and EA which was Shift 2: Unleashed.

They are reliant on T10 and think if Microsoft got F1 license, it will be the main team working on it rather than Playground Games.

Look at state F1 2015 released made by "Codemasters". Seems quite common this generation for quite buggy games to be released.

Judging by the Steam reviews it might not even be worth that. :boggled:

It might not be, but at that price I wasn't going to wait around too long and I haven't owned an F1 game since 2012 (I did play 2013 briefly and didn't care for it, didn't even attempt going near 2014).

The "itch" was real this year, to say the least.

Just had a quick look on there, seems really bad game stability. Codemasters probably losing out a lot on PC platform with Steam refunds for people who bought it full price on there.

2011 for me is last one I played properly and that was for a relative short time. 2010 probably would have suffered similar fate if it weren't for your competition. 👍

2012 and 2013 I played briefly and that was only few laps on each. Bought 2014 but haven't got around to playing due to other games.

The "itch" is real for me but so far Codemasters haven't done enough to make me want to play it. Maybe a patch or two later, F1 2015 can tempt me in. Might give F1 2014 a go though to get rid of that "itch" temporarily while people are being bugged down by F1 2015.

I said I didn't have bugs earlier, I just found a HUGE one that makes me laugh (nervously).

But first I encountered another small one, I sometime cannot shift in the pit exit (between limiter and track). It's rather annoying on some tracks like Barcelona or Monza where the lane is very long, I'm stuck in 2nd... And weird we can't access the mix/brake and engineer radio menus during both driving in the pit lane and exiting it. Hope they change it cause it's weird.

But the absolute golden nugget I found is in ProSeason mode. Just wanted to start it 10min ago and I had to stop after 5 minutes in FP1. Why ? Because as you know driving assists are locked (that's what the mode is about) but they are locked... on Amateur ( yes that's all assists on, auto gearbox, driving line). The menu displays Elite but it's not.
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Instant game mode killer, returning to Championship season mode, after all it's more or less the same (but no FP1 and 2 and no one to prevent you from lowering difficulty or length...). What a shame, thinking that I was already laughing at the ProSeason mode being showed as the main feature in the game.

Judging by the Steam reviews it might not even be worth that. :boggled:
Well apart from what's just above I think the game is worth at least 26$.

First impressions after about 5-10 minutes of gameplay:

1. Holy crap does it look good.
2. What the hell is wrong with the FFB?

Oh good, the thread turned into an argument over what constitutes a "real" sim.

On another note, more related to the topic:

How do you talk to the engineer? using the regular ps4 headset? I have tried talking and nothing happens.

L1 is the pit radio button by default, so hold that while you speak. While it's held, a list of commands will pop up on the right of the screen, which will change depending on situation (race, in-lap, quali, and practice all have different lists). Yeah, you use the standard Sony headset. You can also set your pit engineer's voice to output to your earpiece in the sound options, which I quite liked. :)

I have no idea how good it is yet because the audio is really quiet through the DS4 compared to all other PS4 games. I hope there is an option to send the audio to the TV.

You can change the Audio output source, and also the individual volumes. I actually found the engine noise to be very quiet, so I put that on 100, with environmental sound on 90, and speech on 100. You can output the Engineer's voice to your main source, and set whether your main source is tv, stereo speakers, or surround, and you can also output the engineer's voice to your ds4 speaker, or your headset. If you output him to the ds4 speaker, remember you can change the volume of that speaker in your PS4's main menu settings. Where you change the brightness of the light bar and all that. You could also output it to your tv if you prefer, and then set the speech volume to 100, and the other volumes lower, and turn your tv up to suit. That'd make the voice much louder than everything else. Hope that helps mate :)

Edit: One thing I found rather funny is, when I'm talking to the engineer, he understands my commands first try with all but one, which is "full race update". Every time I say "full race update" in my normal Aussie accent, he tells me he didn't catch it, or there's static on the radio. I can try over and over and he won't hear me. The funny bit is, if I say it in an over the top nasal pommy accent (think Murray Walker), he understands right away hahahaha. Of course this sends me into a fit of laughter, and I don't catch what he's telling me. Thankfully he understands "engineer repeat" in my accent lol.

Also, hidden commands that work any time but aren't in the lists are:

Engineer mute
Engineer talk
Engineer repeat

As far as bugs go, I've also had the one where the box is stuck in second leaving the pits, till the end of the pit lane exit. It's annoying, but not a big deal after playing pcars.

Seriously? or you're messing with me? Would be cool if it only worked when you were playing as Kimi...

On a related note, while I was trying to get him to understand my "full race update" command, before I realised I have to say it like Murray Walker, I had tried about 10 times to no avail, and was getting pissed off at him, so I held my radio button and said "you're a **** head mate", and he said "understood".

Seriously, how?

The 21st is for physical copies, it was available worldwide yesterday in digital.

On the PC, I have to stress that. Do not go onto PSN or the Xbox Store looking for it. :P

No, I couldn't be more serious, I find out when I tried to mimic the famous Iceman's quote but I didn't expect my engineer to reply "Ok copy that"
There are other things too, like Weather Report you say just "Weather" and it works.
Maybe more hidden commands who knows ?

Damn, once again the pit fall of having a Steam account and no money :indiff:

FFB is actually a thing on the pad but not a wheel. What the hell, Codemasters?

This is really the only complaint I have right now: FFB is practically non-existent with a wheel to the point it actually disconnects you from the drive; the braking feels inconsistent (I haven't messed with deadzones yet so that might be a factor), and the physics mostly feel the same. There are subtle improvements here and there but you'll really notice a difference in wet conditions.

The insta-braking is gone when you're out of bounds though so that's definitely better.

Also, 4K:

What wheel are you using? I have a G27, and the FFB is working great for me. It is better than F1 2013 and 2014 combined in my opinion. Only Codemasters game that has better FFB at the moment, is Dirt Rally.

My logitech profiler settings are

Overall Effects :110
Spring strengh: 100
Damper: 0
Centering Spring on but set to 0
°of rotation: 360

I have had to set those in the "Global Device Settings" however, as for some reason a custom profile in the logititech software isnt working.

In game I currently have

Force feedback :100
Environmental: 20
Wheel Weight: 60

p.s I also have Vsync turned on, but that is only because I use a 1080p 60Hz Samsung tv at the moment. I dont know if having it off effects the force feedback like on previous codemaster titles.

Edit: Also, I had issues with the wheel if I created a custom button layout in game. I ended up with a stupid amount of deadzone on the throttle, brake and steering; even though everything was set to zero deadzone in the "advanced wheel options" menu.

Did anyone tried ProSeason yet on any platform or am I the only one having this hilarious assist issue ?

There's another bug I think I've read other people having it, several AI cars exit the pit at the start of FP session with a punctured tyre, triggering yellow flags all around the track (and not pitting otherwise it'll take away the fun).

BTW it's very nice that all lights displaying the flags color are fully functional (the blinking square ones).

Also a G27. The FFB works in the sense there's resistance and it does react to going over the rumble strip, going into the dirt, or bumping against the wall but there's absolutely no sense of intensity. Even when you ran straight into a wall at 180+ there's only the most subtle jerking and that's it. There's no feedback from the tarmac, no feedback from turning in and out of corners, it just feels phenomenally... dull.

It's a much better experience with a pad as it is right now. I'm still running tons of hot laps at the moment so I've yet to dive into any of the game modes, but my only complaints right now are the following:

- There appears to be a memory leak
- Force (No)Feedback
- The game tries to restart itself when exited but always fails
- Some settings aren't saving?

- Some settings aren't saving?

I've just encountered this. Put the game on to do a race in my season (I was up to Bahrain), and when I went out on track it wasn't upshifting. I went into the settings, and my custom controller profile wasn't there, it was back on controller preset 1. The only changes I made were changing upshift from X to triangle, and mapping drs to X. I checked all my other settings and they were as I left them, so for now all I can find that doesn't save is the button mapping. It's a little annoying, but since I only swapped two buttons around, it's not a big deal for me. I can imagine it would be a bigger pita for someone who re-mapped a bunch of functions. It will stay saved until you turn the game off, so I just need to remember to change it every time I start the game.

I noticed this on the console build when I was checking out streams the other day, but there's an issue with the game drawing contact shadows the further the car is away from the camera.

Then there's the texture flickering and pop-in.

After a quick solo run at Monaco and 10 lap quick races at Catalunya (wet) and Singapore, its obvious that F1 has really benefited from next gen graphics and 60 fps.

Physics seem improved (you can really drive the cars on throttle with no risk of the unpredictable snap loss of grip like in previous games) and the AI seems very intuitive.

All in all, the game is an improvement on all fronts, but its the increased frame rate and subsequent ability to race wheel to wheel that makes this the best F1 game to date. Even the cut scenes look descent and add a bit of atmosphere to the game.

Ignore the negative comments, if you're an F1 fan you will love this game. My only complaints are to do with the sport itself (i.e. lack of sound etc.) but they are hardly Codemasters' fault
