F1 201X - Updates & News DiscussionF1 2010-2016

I'm disappointed. While it's nice to finally see historic cars and circuits appear, I think Codemasters have made some pretty poor choices. The car line-up isn't bad, but the choice of circuits falls flat. Imola is the only good one of the four; while Brands Hatch certainly isn't bad, I would have picked Kyalami (the 1980s version) the Österreichring, Long Beach and Buenos Aires - the long layout used in the 1980s, not the glorified go-kart circuit of the 1990s - before I picked Brands Hatch.

And Estoril and Jerez are terrible choices.

This isn't a pre order bonus. This is a pay more for this classic edition copy.
Yes, my bad. Edited.

I fail to see how this is more wrong then say, PD's Stealth car/Chromeline car pre-order bonuses (or similar ones with other developers).
I could never wrap my head around GT5 pre-order bonuses/editions. This is clearly miles better compared to that.

Chrome lines are bonus version of cars already in the game,The biggest difference from F1 2013 and F1 2012 is the addition of Classic Mode, they've almost split the whole of the classic Mode to half free ,half will cost money.

Not like the chrome lines at all, also a Pre order bonus is one thing ,but day one DLC is another thing entirely .

My point is ,when you focus on a new exciting feature that will set you apart from your older game, don't make half of it DLC/2 cents

Thing is though, everyone can get that (if they choose). Not everyone could get Chrome lines (particularly in the US). THAT is what I mean.

Yeah true, but they were hardly anything special anyway.

I still don't agree with how they were region locked as well

Hopefully with the classic content that this is the start of it and in future editions that there is more classic content but it probably very difficult to get all of the licences and they would have to edit the livery's of the cars because of all of the cigarette company's sponsoring F1 during that period

I still find the idea of censoring tobacco logos (and alcohol ones for that matter) in games just completely stupid and nonsensical. Exactly what sort of harm is there in having them present? That to this day is one of the great mysteries I have yet to figure out.

Blame the various governments and video game rating authorities.

Codemasters could include the cars as they were but thanks to the above the game would have to be rated 18 or equivalent. Obviously that would lose more sales than if they don't' include them, so that's what we have.

They can include the tobacco logo's on DLC as it's not rated. T10 had the Rothman's logos on the 962 straight from the Porsche pack.

Not sure on alcohol logos, but I'm guessing they could do them as well.

Yep, that is one way around it. PD obviously didn't realise that though or still chose to block out Silk Cut on the DLC XJR-9.

Yeah and the Marlboro on the F2007.

The F2007 wasn't DLC. It was in the game from the start so they would have been less likely to include Marlboro logos. If it came as DLC then they could have included it in a loophole sort of way as Samus was saying about the premium XJR-9.

Also fairly strange that they didn't have the barcode on the F10 eventhough it was never fully proved that it was subtly advertising Marlboro.

The game came out on November 2010. The late-season version of the F10 did not have the barcode, so it is possible PD modeled the F10 based on the specification of the later GPs of the 2010 F1 season. ;)

I have never played a F1 game before my only expereinces with codemasters games are the Grid series and dirt 3. as a racing fan (arcade, simcade and some sim) what should I expect from a game like this and what type of gamer/racer enjoys games like this. I am kinda getting very focus on racing games lately not interested in much of any other genre( well maybe splinter cell and metal gear) racing seems to be the only thing I play these days not im not great but its what I enjoy

If thats true, then why are the mirrors on top of the side pods? Like this:

Before the Spainish GP, they were moved to just ahead of the driver, as seen here:

As far as the Marlboro bar code, they just edited it out, just like the F2007.

any on here able to answer my questions

If you enjoy games like Gran Turismo and Forza you should enjoy Codemasters F1 series as well.

Codemasters F1 games could be classified as "simcade" I suppose. Much like GT and Forza they are pretty damn realistic but for the absolute hardcore PC sim snobs they leave a bit to be desired in the physics department.

If you're looking for a fun F1 racing game rooted in realism these games are a great start.

New info about the dlc.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they swapped the names of Scheckter and Schumacher in the article.

I think they got it all wrong to be honest. Hakkinen Schumacher and Hill didn't race in the 80s. Prost never raced the FW21 and they spelt Scheckters name wrong anyway.

List from Codemasters:
1980s (F1 2013 and F1 2013: Classic Edition)
1980 Williams FW07B - Alan Jones & Alain Prost
1986 Team Lotus 98T - Mario Andretti & Emerson Fittipaldi
1988 Ferrari F1-87/88C - Gerhard Berger & Michael Schumacher
1988 Team Lotus 100T - Satoru Nakajima & Mika Hakkinen
1988 Williams FW12 - Nigel Mansell & Damon Hill

1990s (F1 2013: Classic Edition only)
1992 Ferrari F92 A - Jean Alesi & TBA
1992 Williams FW14B - Nigel Mansell & David Coulthard
1996 Ferrari F310 - Michael Schumacher & Gerhard Berger
1996 Williams FW18 - Damon Hill & Jacques Villeneuve
1999 Ferrari F399 - Eddie Irvine & Jody Scheckter
1999 Williams FW21 - TBA & Alain Prost
