Say you would want to sink the shifter into your home build center console, you'd want to secure it all around. So just for occasions like that you'd want some extra mounting equipment in the package.

If you want to sink it, maybe it is easier to bolt it from the bottom just like steering wheels as there seems to be screw holes for that.

This would depend totally of the stiffness of your structure. If there is too much bending of the wood or whatever bottom plate you mount it on, it might nock against the hole it slips in on the console surface during gearshifts. Securing it at the top will prevent this, securing it all around makes it just feel that bit more solid.

Yes the announcement on when we will be able to order it will be even more interesting. Since the test are going good, there is hope it will be soon.

Red Bull gives you wings.

DSD (Derek Speare Designs) gives your CSW or CSR-Elite wings!

I love these things, the one on the right is partially the original test attachment, so the finish will be better as can be seen on the left one. Been working with Derek for a couple months on these making sure they are top notch.

These things are amazing, they put so much function all from your fingertips. These should be excellent combined with my Oculus Rift since I won't have to reach far away to a button box. They should be available to order at www.derekspearedesigns.com soon!

Apologies for the terrible picture quality, it's from a cell phone using the LED flash in a nearly dark room.

I won't comment on something I don't know for sure, but I can tell you DSD has been working on this for quite a while. It's also has almost double the functions at a much lower price. You can buy a single side as well, you don't have to buy both sides. $125 for one side with free shipping, so $250 US for both vs ~$400 US for the SRH dash.

I haven't had my hands on the SRH dash, but the DSD was the clear choice for me, better value for the money and still excellent quality.

What a blatant copy of SRH's CSW Dashboard. It's not even funny.

The SRH is most likely more solid, as in it won't flex as much due to its one piece construction Plus you only need one USB cable for them and two for the DSD. I also think the SRH has a better finish than DSD's.
It's kinda like putting an iPhone against a Samsung Galaxy. Looks the same, does roughly the same but the quality differs. Still lots of mud slinging with patents between the two companies.

Oh and just a heads up....mine are pre-production test units, the final version can be seen here:

The material is THICK, there is very little flex in the units.

I dont see how it's a copy at all. There's only so many shapes and designs you can have for something like this. That's like saying one steering wheel is a copy of another cos they're both round :D

If I were to get one I'd only want one side as I have my DSD shifter on the right hand side of my CSW :P

Sonac, I'm a big fan of yours but I've got to disagree with you on this one, friend.

The CSR Elite and CSW were designed specifically with hardpoints for accessories like displays, gauges, button boxes, dash panels, etc. and I see no reason why only one company should be able to make a cockpit. SRH and DSD both took very different approaches resulting in different design and cost compromises, and I still see room for other approaches. (Dashboard with clip-in mounts for button box modules, for example. That idea was free.)

This is also compatible with the CSR-Elite as well.

The SRH isn't.

Is that so? You can easily remove the CSR Elite rim with a hex key and I see no reason why the SRH wouldn't fit around the collar.

What a blatant copy of SRH's CSW Dashboard. It's not even funny. It takes real guts to put a DSD logo on it.

It also takes alot of guts for SRH to charge what they are charging for there button box. It is a nice product they have, but the price is just crazy high for what it actually is. I think DSD's version should be a reality check for SRH.

This.

If you have access to iRacing, check the thread where they debuted it. I was REALLY excited about it. But then they announced a price of over $400 US after shipping. Maybe it's a good deal for people who use GBP, I dunno, but it's too much in USD in my opinion.

DS is a good guy and really cares about his customers. He readily made some custom parts for me for a project after I begged LOL and he did a great job. SRH is great as well, I hope there isn't any hard feelings toward either company.

They really look awesome, if i knew he was making them, i would not have bought a DSD Velocity and would have waited.

I've taken the Velocity appart and started making a (very simular, not copied :)) dashboard myself. I even have ordered the covered toggle switches last week for both left and right side.

Here's a WIP photo, from what i've been working on this week:

Thanks Mark :) To bad i have to wait for some extra buttons to be shipped from China and the UK.

So it's probably gonna take a couple of weeks before it's done. But at least i have my new Rally style handbrake to have some fun with.

I just saw the Hand break and it to is impressive! 👍 I'd been looking at them and wondering if anyone would try making their own, so well done mate.
You should do a step by step guide for the less electronically/mechanically inclined :) ......Like me

What kind of handbrake would you want, Mark? Something like Henk or an hydraulic one like me?

I'm not sure yet Logi. I'm currently saving for the gaming PC, which I'll hopefully have by the end of next month.....
Then I'll start adding all the gizmo's, button boxes, shifters and a hand break lol

Back on Dec 29, 2012 I posted the following on pg. 410 of this thread in response to Paskowitz's post about SRH's CSW Dashboard pre-release announcement:

Similar design could be easily replicated on wheel bases that have no built-in mounts by using an L-bracket to mount the faceplate to whatever the wheel's base is mounted to.

Would not be surprised if other button box providers aren't busily scurrying about their design tools now.

So it turns out my assumption a few months ago about other providers probably working toward producing similar stuff was correct. A little competition will probably help the sim consumer in this case.

I also think that similar stuff will be produced for wheel base's that don't have built-in hard mounts like the CSRE/CSWs.

GTP member readyfe has already cooked up a way to mount a similar type dash for T500's.
Similar concept could also be used for Fanatec's Porsche-style wheels and G25/G27.

So I don't believe this is blatant copying.
More like an emerging trend where SRH was quicker on the draw.
The market's forces at work if you will.

...but there is a potential downside to this trend of hanging stuff off of wheel bases/decks depending on the type of rig you have...

From my same post on pg. 410.

One potential draw-back to consider regarding this approach is the combined weight...
...of the faceplate/button boxes/display array and Wheel on a rig's wheel deck supports.

Reason: not all rigs have the same type of wheel deck supports.
For example, desk or shelf-type wheel decks like the VisonRacer, GamePod etc. have lots of support, so no problem.

Whereas, wheel decks like the Bob Earl, rSeat Evo, Playseat, RaceRoom and etc. that have less structural support, will have added stress, and possibly more wiggle, rattle, and shake depending on the added weight.

Thats' why I have since re-inforced the deck mount on my own 80/20 rig.

I hope it won't be a handbreak, mate. Sounds painful to have a broken hand due to a gizmo. ;)
It's brake and not break. :P

When you are done it will really compliment your iPad project on the right side!
Looks like it will be closer in size to the iPad than the dashboard would be.
I think it was a great way for you to go! 👍
