Okay, I just realized something...I've done cruise speed in a Cessna 152. That's about 120 mi/h. So that's actually the fastest I've ever done...

But it's not - eherm - "in my car," so it doesn't count.

I did 100 in my RX7 recently. It was too much for a particular exhaust heat shield, so its rusty bracket broke and it started hanging on the ground, making the most awful grinding sound I've ever heard. Startling considering it's the first time I went that fast in the car.

And then by the time I got back home gas had already gone up! It's like the oil companies were watching me, waiting...

I went to watch the Hungarian GP in 08. As a true petrol head I decided, with my 3 other friends, to drive there and back. Boy did we have some fun, the best bit was the German Autobahns (no speed limit), I hit nearly 150MPH before I lost my nerve.

Fastest I have gone? It's not impressive but I have done 75mph. I would not go any faster because you would not want to go any faster on such a cheap car such as a ford escort. Even if the speedo says it can do 120mph.

In my new car I was more modest, Germany last weekend 190km/h, since there are a lot of slow bends on that bit of motorway. Car is super at easy at those speeds.

Some people have ridiculous claims, faulty speedometer, yeh right: caught driving at 186mph (from yahoo)

Bah your fuel economy likely only went down to an overall 12 thats pretty good! Now once I get my Aux ports working maybe ill be able to get closer to the fastest ive done on my Fizzer.

Dont worry thats perfectly normal, speedos in cars are never 100% accurate they always exagerate slightly, for example I have done an indicated 168mph in my Evo 8 yet the book top speed is 157mph.

Thats why road testers use seperate timing gear for their figures 👍

Scariest thing was, some tool pulled right out of the hard shoulder, so he was doing about 20 on the M1. My dad had to swerve across two lanes to avoid him. Luckily it was about 11PM so the road was empty.

I think the fastest I ever went was in my 86 IROC Z, it was [wholly unnecessary information]. I think it was about 2am and I averaged about 130 and hit about 145 where I could. I was dicen a Starion Turbo and a 84 Z28 until they just gave up. Then I looked over to my right at this completely hot chick that was passed out next to me in the passenger seat and I just kept the peddle down. Lol………..

245 km/h (150 mph) on my remapped mk6 golf GTI. although I did reach 270 km/h (168 mph) on a Audi RS6 Avant, it was quite mesmerizing reaching those speeds with a station wagon.

slight above 255 km/h (=158.45 mph) in my own car (see signature)...the fiat coupe has got NO limiter like BWM or so which are most stopped at 250 km/h...LOL
according to the speedo...according navigation system it might be a bit slower..but the speedo of my car is amazingly quiet correct...
after such a speed on the autobahn (i love germany... :-) ) you feel like a turtle when driving with 55km/h (34 mph) in the city...

I've still not bothered testing my car's top end. It just takes entirely too long to get there. It's much safer with a blazing fast car because you're not doing those speeds for as long a period of time lol.
