I'm under the impression Koenig did build a Competition Evolution that was eventually classed as their own car, and that's also the model that appeared in RD2.

Theres not many companies that build cars like Ruf do that classify as their own cars.

Wow, i remember exactly the same arguements this time 2 years ago over GT4

SavageEvil
There are Koenig tuned cars which do not sport the original manufacturers name, the race versions. If you have Toca2 you will see the cars I speak of, it looks exactly like a testarossa, but it's called the Koenig P50 or something like that, no Ferrari in the name anywhere. I'll have to find that game it's somewhere around this room and get the names of the Koenig vehicles in the game.
There you go. You just answered your own question as to why it's in Toca2. Because the Ferrari nameplate is not on the car and the car was probably built and registered under Koenig.

Well... having just won the Porsche 911 GT2 and Ferrari 355 in Forza, I have to say...

Sony, spend some damn money and get these CARS! :dopey:

Seriously, you know that they're going to be in Forza 2, and we're going to want to compare every cars dashboard, antenna and cigarette lighter. Not to mention handling. And modding. And race conversion...

It will be sick if Sony doesn't pony up for every car license they can, and in a bad way.

never played forza (PS2 guy), but its not sonys money to spend. polyphony needs to put out and get these companies to come to them. make them realize that the GT series is the best seeling car game in the history of the Playstation system. why not get your cars involved in the series. it may be a late start but atleast they can hopefully sneak in GT5

Well, yeah, sort of. It seems that if Kazunori needs somehing, he can go to Ken Kutaragi and get it, whatever it is. Must be nice.

Oh, and as for Forza, I made the mistake of seeing a Forza video, hungry for any info on next gen racers. I couldn't resist, bought a Forza/XBox bundle and a wheel. It's got its own flavor, and there is some growing to do to get used to it, but it's a great contrast to Gran Turismo. No force feedback though. :P

It's been said that Forza Motorsport was actually more of a tribute to Gran Turismo and it's basically a formula XBOX gamers. The politically un-correct version of all this means that the Gran Turismo series has its biggest rival after smoking many other game series in its mold. I would say that in one way, GT needs to put the hurting on Forza and stay hurting them. But in some way, I've kept seeing the series as giving demanding and discriminating fans of sim racers exactly what they want while giving the middle finger to PD. In other words... b*tching rights and the power to say that PD doesn't listen to or care about its fans. PD was never like that even with "The Real Driving Simulator" slogan.

Now back to something many of us are more used to- the Gran Turismo series. Don't be completely indulged in these cars. Easier said than done, but try. Some of you just let big names judge the game before you actually think about the essential elements. Many prestigious companies are already in the game or have made at least one appearance. How can you discount names like Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, and even Bentley? Yeah, "the supercar company," but is Gran Turismo really about that? Has it ever marketed or flirted with marketing true sports cars? When was the last time you seen: "Gran Turismo: The Real Sports Car Simulation?" This has been the "something for everyone" deal which many love or hate. I don't want all sports cars. I don't want most big-name exotics. The mix of everyday drivers and performance cars in GT is actually better than Forza (regardless of the "cars you actually want to drive" deal). Including the three companies we been bickering about will only add to the sports car end of the GT series. The sports car end may need some extra work to it, but don't judge GT on the basis of car companies people want to see yet PD "refuses" to include. As the saying goes, "every problem has a reason." Love the sports cars, just don't be obsessed to the point where everything else in the game doesn't matter. Everyone likes some kind of car in a GT game. There are favorites even if you don't like the car or car genre in question. I TRY to make cars fun in GT games. How do you think I'm enjoying modifying a Honda Odyssey in GT4? Or how about a Toyota Tacoma X-Runner? Sometimes, enjoyment of games has to involve a little more effort on your end. The game developers did their part to make the game, the next part is for you to enjoy as much of the game as possible.

I'd like to end this post on a different route. I always thought it would be easier to get Lamborghini into GT games, but someone said that Ferrari is likely easier than Porsche or Lamborghini. Care to explain?

I would like to see these German guys there - http://www.isdera.de/.

Isdera was there before Pagani, and their Commendatore model was using a AMG engine to take place of the most desired supercar in early '90s. Only true competition in the time was Bugatti EB110, but Commendatore never begin it's life because Isdera Co. bankrupt because enouromous costs of Comm's development.

Commendatore also has probably the most beautiful design ever seen on a supercar, together with unique door and engine-cover opening system ever created.

The company that bought Isdera Co. sold the one-existing Commendatore to undisclosed buyer in 1993. for 450 000$ as reported. In September 2005 Jalopnik reported that Ebay is hosting a mistery sale of "german prototype supercar" for 5 million $. Later on, additional informations stated it is really a 112 prototype which was bought for 4.800.000$ by "Eiki200" . Some rich Eiki there:D.

All their models rocked and some basic info about them can be found all over the net.

Ferrari is going to be easier at this point in time than Porsche but probably not Lamborghini. Right now Porsche have once again given EA an exclusive license, this is why they wern't in PGR3 and arn't in TD:U amongst other games but were in NFS:U. Ferrari on the other hand don't seem to be in an exclusive licese at the oment, being in PGR3, TD:U and the new Outrun all made by different people and available on different systems to the XB360, PGR3 being XB360 exclusive, TD:U being XB360 and PC and Outrun being on the PS2 and maybe other consoles I can't remember. Lamborghini seem to be offering more licenses as well now being in NFS:U, TDU: PGR3 and many other games out now and coming soon so Lamborghini are probably the easiest to get since I doubt they'll have as many terms as Ferrari, but Porsche are probably impossible for GT5 unless their EA contract is a very short one.

Oh now thats nice!! Maybe there are some more RUF models PD can include and we're all ready:tup: As long as Ferrari is in plz:drool:👍 It might not be excluded after all.

Hrm... I hated EA before, and I'm twice as hate now. Just what we need, a game company as belligerent as Sony and Microsoft. :grumpy:

Well, now I'm curious about Forza 2, if we'll see new Porsches in it.

And John, I'm with you, really. Whatever is in GT5, I'll love and hug and drive to death. As long as it's got more than 100hp and not be a truck or SUV. But Sony is a rich company, and Gran Turismo 5 is going to be a prestige statement by Polyphony and Sony. I'm surprised how many people bought 360s and Project Gotham because it has Ferraris in it.

Gran Turismo 5 needs to hit with the impact of one of those new VW commercials. Jaaa. :D

Well there are ways to implement lots of variation on other things as well.
I'm still with my point that Ferrari should be included (porsche is my next favorite but I just hate lambo's, but whatever).

If PD could make each ride more unique then you would have fun with all cars. But right now GT4 feels too much the same and only fast cars are interesting for me. If they could make the normal cars feel real life and exciting as well then that would be awsome.

In real life I would love to screw around with my dad's Ford Focus sometimes, but in GT4 the focus is pretty lame.
Make each ride feel more unique would be a way to give the number of cars some value this time. There's nothing as boring as 700 cars that all seem to handle pretty much the same.

I want even more variation if PD is gonna decide to focus their attention on more normal cars again.

Well... I honestly doubt that if you accurately modelled 300 civilian sports cars in a video game that they would "feel" all that different from each other, with obvious exceptions. The reason real life cars feel different is because your body is physically inside of a physical vehicle, and even if the performance and handling differences are miniscule, then the experience can still be distinctly different. Take all that away, put the thing on a TV screen, and all that visceral sensation is gone. How different can one video image be from another, when they essentially do the same thing?

If you suggest like many companies do and exaggerate the differences, then you end up with people complaining about how unrealistic the cars are. Keep this fact in mind when you grouch about how similar the cars feel in a video game. These companies are almost in a no win situation.

Well things like seating position, comfort, feeling the bumps and g-forces don't come into play in a game, two cars can corner at the same speed and angle but feel very different doing so because of things we can't feel in a game.

This is not 100% true however. An article previewing Test Drive did in fact mention Porsche.

Most likely a mistake by an uninformed journalist. Remember that most people think that RUFs are Porsches. They're not going to bother looking at exactly what it is.. they see what looks like a Porsche, so they call it a Porsche. Same thing happens right here on GTP quite a bit.

Very true.

Porsche-like cars were seen in Test Drive's Trailer, but it was concluded by a developer to not take everything in the Trailer as something that would make it to the final game.

Dag nab it, there you go getting my hopes up one second then dashing them to pieces the next. :P

I guess we'll see how tight fisted EA is in the coming months. Damn them to hell with Bill Gates...

why bugati is not in GT??
Because they either wern't asked by PD, they were asked but said no, or have been asked and agreed to appear in GT5 and we just don't know it yet.

Remember something that I usually preach. Don't feel bad if any of these companies don't make it into GT5. Don't feel angry, don't feel saddened, don't feel cheated, don't feel disregarded... you know where I'm getting at. It is offensive to say that these debatable car companies in GT5 are just that- car companies, but it's true at the end of the day. The only thing I've hated about all of this was the obsession of seeing these cars in GT5. For all I care, Venturi can return to GT and put in that Venturi Fetish car (I don't know if I'm allowed to type that 6-letter "F" word on GTPlanet or not). I always say that one must get accustomed to much affordable and more practical cars before having even remote appreciation of supercars. And I'm talking about driving these things and not so much about dreaming about them as a child. Can you trust an inexperienced driver with a restored classic? What if someone restored a lovely Chevrolet Bel-Air (I love those) from the 50s and you gave it to a teen who has a lead foot and an illegal street racing enigma? I wish to become a father one day (whether one of my own children or an adopted child), but I would never turn over something precious or expensive to my children unless they are really experienced with bigger and better cars. That's because I believe in "crawl before you walk," something a number of people were never taught in life. Experience should be the key to getting with these faster cars. It's one thing I've never really liked about Arcade-style racing games. No one cares about the slowest because it's about the fastest. Some machines have just about the same driving dynamics and speeds in most popular arcade racing games. So winning becomes part of skill than using pure tactics. I'm such a sim racer that I struggle a bit with arcadish games. Only ones I don't struggle much with is the Ridge Racer series. Something like the Midnight Club series can be pretty frustrating because I have to have a certain car to even stand a chance to win. Gran Turismo and Forza are more diverse.

I still think about what some gamers dream of when I remembered "X-Play's" review on Forza Motorsport. After the review, this was the end of the review:

(indirect quote) "...and that means you can ding up licensed cars. We'd love to smash up a Porsche or a Ferrari, Sony." -"X-Play" co-host Morgan Webb after reviewing "Forza Motorsport"

Why those? So you'd rather smash up something like a Ferrari or Porsche when you could have better things to do like smashing up a Ford Taurus SHO or a Cadillac Cien Concept Car (ah! Alliteration! Is that the correct figurative language tool?)? This is one reason why I don't really care if these cars make it into the game. It is because a damage-enabled GT in which people have no respect for their own cars (even 6-figure ones) and just want the absolute hardest and absolute unforgiving just to enjoy beating up really-expensive cars. I'm delving into some subjects outside of the chances of Ferrari and such. However, I just have some sort of diligence and respect for cars even if "it's just a game." Many of these are real cars you can either see on TV and/or buy in real life. Would you do the same thing to a real-life version of a car if you owned that car? If I beat the s:censored: out of a Ferrari 360 Modena on Forza's Tokyo Circuit, would I do it to a real 360 Modena someplace else in real life? First of all, I'd have to pay a lot of money and may have my license revoked for reckless driving. This is also why I sometimes cringe over seeing high-dollar exotics in recent NFS games (the ones that are there anyways). People will just be like "I don't need this grocery getter. I need some REAL muscle" in most games. GT will be no different if some of its own exotics are acquired in GT4. And as I say, GT4 had plenty of sports cars and exotics. So use them, player!

Just a number of different issues all interweaved into the inclusion of such cars in GT5. Someone said "maybe they (Ferrari) don't want to see their cars getting beat by a Skyline." My version would be "maybe they (Ferrari) don't want to see their cars get into the hands of crash-happy supercar 'fanboys.'" We're two worlds apart yet share certain love for these companies. I won't commit suicide because a game company can't get in a certain car company. Besides, PD got in Ducati and Aprilia for "Tourist Trophy." To say they can't get in Ferrari even if they tried their best is ludicrous. So consider this your silver lining- there's hope these companies will be included. Even if not included, it's not the end of the world. Just that you'll have to do a better job of finding new cars to appreciate while the cars at-large will still be in the back of your mind. True car lovers will succeed at this; untrue car lovers will fail miserably. So pick a side.

I have always loved Gran Turismo for its diversity. Even though it lacks some of the big famous supercars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porche, it still has others. GT has introduced me to companies I had never even heard of. GT1 showed me TVR. GT2 taught me about the non-Italian supercars, such as Venturi and Vector. And thanks to GT3, the Pagani Zonda is my all-time favorite supercar. GT also introduced me to cars that would've never caught my attention, the kei cars like the Suburu 360, Fiat 500, and the Suzuki Cappacino. And the selection has always changed. I was a little bummed when I saw Vector was missing from GT3, but then I saw Pagani, so it didn't bother me much.

I know that if a company is omitted from a GT game, it will be replaced with somethong else. Sure, I'd love to see Ferrari and Lamborghini, but there are other 200mph monsters out there. I don't really care if Porche gets in or not, we still have RUF. Since the original, I've taken the companies in stride, because I know each game will broaden my horizons a bit more, GT5 will most likey show me even more companies I've never known. If we lose a company, I won't refuse the game, beacuse I know I'll like the cars put in its place. Big or small, I'll take them all, and if if something is gone, something new will fill the void. So in this way, the inclusion/lacking of certain manufacturers has never really bothered me.

If I never get to take a Diablo around the Ring, I'll just take my Zonda. No big deal.

Ferrari's won't come into GT5, if Polyphony Digital did'nt get their license for GT4, why would they get it for GT5?

GeorgeMorley

Excellent logic, there. If you can't afford a new car now, why would you be able to afford a new car in the future?

I'd prefer to have everything. Not having a Ferrari, meh, it's okay... would make nice Garage material, but considering:

1. There are faster cars in GT (just about any race car)
2. There are better handling road cars in GT... well, against, the Enzo, maybe just as good.
3. There are more exotic cars in GT... more expensive, too.
4. There are cars just as desirable in GT. (this one is entirely subjective).

It wouldn't be a loss if they didn't get in. But if they did, I'd be happy.

Very well said, and on that subjective note, I Love the Pagani Zonda's, after watching Top Gear, i quickly saved up some cash and bought it in GT4 and am very happy GT4 have the Zonda :) Which is even more 'exclusive' than a Ferrari...

Also on the same note, I heard that PD dont buy liscences or something, but rather through the games popularity get the companies to give them the liscences. Some of you guys make it seem like PD is poor, I doubt that since they are one of Sony's key games, and I also dont think no other racing game has sold like the GT series.

If Cruisin' USA 06 or whatever it is called, the 'ferrari' version has a lot of ferraris in a pathetic game, were you drift 300kmph around big bends like a pendulum, I dont see how that would be helpful to the game, when atleast in GT they'd be under simulation mode to its most realistic nature.

Like said though, without Ferrari the game isn't gonna end its just something that woudln't be minded.

GT4 is great without Ferrari's anyway, with Porsches (I had the Carrera GT in mind) I'd be better, I prefer Porsches over Ferrari's and Lambos.
Rockstar and EA have their licenses, but then their games will never match the quality of Polyphony Digital's.

I don't get it. Some people want diversity among cars while others just don't care for any diversity as long as supercars and such are in the game. So what's it going to be- more of everything, or more of sports cars and supercars? My primary complaint has been that people think every other car is a Skyline or a Kei car. There are still solid, high-dollar cars. An analogy is that a person only likes music that's sung by big-name artists of any genre. This, however, not knowing that there can still be independent artists (they are nicknamed as "indies," but I hate that term because I'm normally thinking about India whenever I hear "indie." And I've known some India natives, so I know what I'm talking about) capable of some of the best music. It's just my thing. I am a big college football fan that still watches some NFL games. Does it mean that I'm insignificant because I don't really watch a lot of NFL games as opposed to college? Am I insignificant if I try to respect all cars even if they aren't painted black with rear-wheel drive and with V8s? People just get all whiny and b:censored:y about this thing. I'm not like that because I can deal with a few aforementioned cars gone.

I normally think the arcade types have it best. Imagine illegal street racing games or purely arcadish games where people want to outrun cops in fast cars. Some have souped-up grocery getters (not knocking tuner car fans) and usually want to be able to pick up the most expensive muscle so they can drive like dumb asses across a city or track. Some people really just want to crash cars in an effort to win. Some just want to be able to beat up cars, even if they are high-dollar exotics. "Hey Ferrari! Look what I did to your Enzo!" This is a multiple-issue deal for me. I don't look at this as PD's inability to access these cars and put them into a game. And I'll follow GeorgeMorley's lead. Gran Turismo would be the same with Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini. It just means there's more car companies to sweeten an already tasty pot. And that's what we love, right? Cars. We love them. We dream about them. Hell, we OWN them. We also love racing. Any track, any configuration, any discipline, whatever. I say that if you're a true car person, why do you cringe and wet your boxers/briefs/panties when any of the aforementioned car companies don't make it into a GT game? I say that true car fans will always find something to appreciate regardless of whatever car is in the game. I've succeeded. Why hasn't most other mainstream types? And I'm more of an underground guy, so I don't really care if mainstreamers say that PD should have car lists like Forza (imagine 700 that are sports cars and/or fast cars as a car list for GT4). I dare someone tell me that I'm an embarassment of a Gran Turismo fan because I'm not like "everyone else." Someone even said to me on GTPlanet that "...there is no defending PD." So you mean to tell me that there's a law stating that racing games must have crashes and high-dollar cars from high-dollar companies? And if PD isn't following this hypothetical law, that they don't deserve to release a GT game until they have EVERY LAST THING PEOPLE WANT? That is why I cringe sometimes as being a GT fan. While I love the game for what it is, there will always be the over-demanding party who daresay it is crap.

PD can look to Sega if they want a Japanese company to acquire a license deal for Ferrari. And it isn't like PD is saying in press conferences that they cannot deliver in getting the big three. It isn't even something to market. What if we see Ferraris in GT5 with the ability to smash them up per your request? Then, all the "fanboys" will think this is the best game ever. But what if a few years from now when it's released, that the game ends up being worse than GT2 in execution and has random crashes like my b:censored: ass eMachines computer I once had? Is it a good game because there's Ferrari, or a bad game because the overall content doesn't stack up? I probably won't say that the game is better off with Ferrari and such, but I am not going to say they are NEEDED. Gran Turismo is not "on the bubble," so to speak. They aren't flirting with being extinct. PD isn't fighting a war. Why do people make this issue worse than it already is? I just don't get it. But I welcome this because I am a people person. And every opinion matters, obviously. I don't understand why this issue becomes a big deal. A big deal on the perspective of putting it in or people decide not to buy a PS3 and GT5. You don't HAVE to get GT5, and you can always look for more games to buy for a PS3. But for the rest of us, we'll wait it out. And if it turns out to be crap even with the big three companies, then so be it. Can't have them all, can we? PLEASE reconsider your obsession before you really look dumb.
