This team is different from almost all Germany teams I've seen so far, it's offensive and full of technique, exchanges passes nicely and in a purposeful manner, magic.

But, this is the way Germany has played for the last five years or so. Gone is the old team that never played a beautiful game but always won. And good riddance. 👍

I have to admit: our german team surprised me a bit too...Well done guys! Was fun to watch!
My colleague today said: "I didn't look like the german team...more like the current spanish or so.."

And about goalkeeper Green: I was astonished that obviously NONE of his team mates went to him after this disaster faux pas to console him! (or have i overlooked it?)
That is more shame in my eyes than the mistake itself...anyone agree?

According the mexican referee: Facepalm!

I would have taken James as backup. Though Joe Hart has kept three clean sheets in the three halfs of football he's played for England (Trinidad, Mexico, Japan), I wouldn't have taken him. I'd have Paul Robinson with Scott Carson.

Or Ben Foster. Or Ross Turnbull. Or Paul Rachubka. Or Steve Harper. Hell, I'd take Wednesday's Lee Grant (who lets less than one in ten go - just Wednesday's defence suck) over Rob Green.
Or Everton's John Ruddy who got 14 clean sheets (11 or so of them in a row) in 34 games whilst on loan at Motherwell. He's probably been the best goalie we've ever had.

Cloughie reckoned that Bywater should have been the third keeper for England. Bywater played in the U19's and U21's but a finger injury kept him out when Robinson and Kirkland were flourishing.

I'm fairly sure he kept at least one clean sheet this season too. :nervous:

Come on Holland!!!

+1 👍

Todays the day.... Holland in action... Can't wait to see them... Should be a good match between them and Denmark. 👍 Got the afternoon off and will be heading to the pubs in a couple hours... WOOOHOO!! :D

Yeah, the oranges are one of the favourites in this cup, time to see another nice game. My initial bet is 3-1. ;)

It shouldn't be too hot - it's winter in South Africa, which means it should be about as hot as a normal summer's day in Scotland

Once again, it seems far to hot to produce any decent football. :indiff:

Yeah the extremely hot weather might be a problem to European teams(at least during the day matches). My money is on the Netherlands team either way:tup:

I thought the temperatures in South Africa at this time of year were around 20 degC :sly:

Yes, it was a dull first half and yes, we are talking about the weather:lol:

Perhaps its the altitude then, the soccer city stadium (where this match is being played) is around 1750m high which is nearly 6000 feet.

Perhaps I am making excuses for the players, but the pace of many of the games has been particularly slow.

Apparently it takes an extra minute to boil an egg in Johannesburg.

OHHH, an own-goal.

just crazy...

This guy is playing in the world cup? (i know my ignorance is wonderful)

No. That's Roberto Carlos who retired from international football in 2006.

Roberto Carlos....according to my Panini sticker album the answer is no. However, according to my panini sticker album David Beckham and Theo Walcott are.

I think Carlos is retired from international football now, he'll be getting on for 40!

His free kicks were wild, he had a really poor shot/goal ratio but will always be remembered for the ones that went in.

Roberto is still playing, for a low level, ridiculous brazilian team named Corinthians.... Some people speculated his presence in 2010's Brazilian squad, but Dunga didn't want him. He's still performing better than most of left side-backs in the world.

My 1000th post in just some months in GTP, I'm a shameless flooder.

EDIT: Beaten by livemusic.

Shame van Persie was subbed off - that should have been his goal :(

Also, I liked this:

/\ What a fail...the US don't have a bad team, even if their country doesn't grasp the concept of the game.

Good match from Dutch National Team, and I'm sure that they can do much better, and Denmark isn't a easy contender also.👍

I liked the second half,in the first Dutch players were a little out of their best pace...

I think its a joke ;)

As in, a tie for the US against England was as good as a win.

Have Keegan and Davids been popping out side together? they are very 'relaxed'

Good result for the Dutch'. They got away with some awful tackles that would make the Aussies sick.

Looking forward to the next game, Japan vs. Camaroon.

Thanks Steve, the American humour isn't completely lost on me ;)

About the Denmark - Holland game, some of the ref's decisions were awful. There were so many fouls that should have received yellow, if not red cards. And some of the tackles on player's ankles were amazingly bad to say the ref didn't even notice, and were considerably worse than Cahill's the other day. 👎
