Oh no, Klose could have scored three by now... and arguably should have. Great for my fantasy football team, but not great for Australia... the Aussies were doing well and might have scored themselves, but now they are beginning to look like Scotland against Brazil - brave, but scared out of their boobs.

I hope they wearing Victorias Secret

Portugal are a very good side and, in my opinion, only a fool would write off Italy and Germany in a big tournament like this, they have so much experience and pedigree.

Well I did say! Certainly the most convincing performance so far, if not a little aided by the ref!

LALALALALALALALALALALALALALA!! It's just a nightmare, lalalalalalalala, I'm not watching this for real, lalalalalalalalalala...............

Ahhh who am I kidding, time for the real feelings to come out.......🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬!!!!

Yep, you got that right - never bet against those two... they don't always produce exciting games, esp. Italy... but they grind out results, and occasionally produce a stunning display that reminds you how good they are...

You know what's been funny........I've been on Omegle and chatting with an American about how we're being destroyed and he's watching the spanish version where the guy goes GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!! It's a good distraction from this hiding we're copping from the Germans.

I just hope it is a close game.

I don't know how you got away with that one for so long. :sly:

Also, that red card for Cahill, (which shouldn't have been IMO) has effectively buggered Australia for the rest of the tournament.

This result should re-affirm to Engalnd, that they definitely don't want to finish the group in second.

A yellow yes, but defenatly not a red card!
I would have said a definite yellow card, and a likely red - stupid challenge from behind, nowhere near the ball, purposefully taking a man down and could have broken his leg into the bargain. Aside from the colour of the card, it was the height of stupidity to do something like that, esp. when the team were already up against it...

Whoa! I'll shut up and think twice before criticizing Germany from now on!

Germany was the best team until there, solid defense, awesome midfield and lethal strikers! This team is different from almost all Germany teams I've seen so far, it's offensive and full of technique, exchanges passes nicely and in a purposeful manner, magic. Superior to France in all aspects and probably better than Argentina too, since Germany's defense was rock solid. Awesome.

Ballack is a painful loss, but without him, Germany is a lighter and faster team, well done Mr. Low. 👍

Stupidity sometimes shows up in times of dispear:dunce:! Hey decidedly an orange card !

Gary Lineker's now famous quote about Germany is getting plenty of air time today after last night's match. "Soccer is a game for 22 people that run around, play the ball... and in the end, Germany always wins". :indiff:

Am I the only one who believes in Green? being a west ham fan I think he is quality and he makes the odd mistake but he there when we need him, Oh and Famine id like to correct you west ham dont have a defence just four overly paid pitch ornaments. I reckon green will bounce back given the opportunity.

Well, its not so much a case of believing in Green, its more of a case of me not jumping on the "Green is suddenly useless - I've never mentioned it before, but I've always secretly known Capello shouldn't have put him in the line up!", bandwagon.

This isn't directed at anyone on this site, more at friends of mine who were championing Green in the qualifiers, and are now making out that he is the worst thing since syphilis, if that wasn't enough, they now claim they have always felt that way about him .

Perhaps the only thing more consistent than England loosing a game in a penalty-shootout, is the England's fans brittleness and the inevitable crumbling into the blame and bitterness when something goes wrong. Mistakes happen and as things go, Green's was a pretty bad one, but he wasn't the only one to make a pretty bad mistake that night. Now some idiots claim he should be hanging from the rafters, the only reason people care is because there was a goal and a results at steak because of it, everyone else mistakes go scot free and forgotten, fickleness doesn't even come into it. :indiff:

What I really care about, is having the best keeper for the job in goals, for me I would give heart a game, he is a talented goalkeeper and will do the job. I think he will do a better job, but its worth remembering he's new, the pressure will be big and he will likely be prone to mistakes.

It seems clear to me that many people remember our previous keepers who did a much better job and never made mistakes, keepers such as our current David James and not so current David Seaman. Never made any mistakes. :sly:

Again, this isn't directed at GTP members, more at vocal fans who I've met today, I understand emotions run high in this competition, but it helps to keep a vague hint of rational in these circumstances, it was a relatively strong performance against the toughest team in the group, perhaps it is a little early to cry inconsolably about our performance. Wait until we get beaten by Algeria for that. :P

Oh well, with a little shaken confidence and uncertainty in the England fans, I am absolutely certain the English media will forget about blame for now and help restore calm among fans.

^^ Yeah, I've been reading through UK's press and honestly, most of them were overreacting. Failures happen to all players during a game, difference is that it's just more noticeable when happens to the keeper.

Also, add to the accountancy that this is the world cup, it happens only in four years, and there's only three to four opportunities for each generation of players. The current English team is superb by looking at the players, but faulty when playing as a set, so it's easier to blame Green, It sells more newspapers and gather more attention than criticizing the team as a whole. -1000 points to the press 👎, they should be supporting the team and specially Green in this moment.

ah, of course there had to be a thread for this. Finally.

Is it me, or this world cup has more or less sucked? I did not see Germany play but for what I saw in the aftergame overviews they seemed to be pretty damn mean, hahaha

the only decent team at the WC and I miss it... mah, I'll for sure catch them next time.

And Mexico has honored our historic tradition: ZERO contundency. Man I hate that.

Germany were playing superbly from what I saw, not a single player had to break stride to get to the ball at any point and the goals were all set up perfectly. It was smooth to watch.

Rob Green

I have evidence from 2006 that I rated Rob Green lower than a tin of Ambrosia rice pudding - and a selection of LOL smileys from just before the World Cup with regards to our goalkeeping lineup. And I've remarked about David James before - who's always been excellent behind the ball, but slightly questionable underneath it.

I would have taken James as backup. Though Joe Hart has kept three clean sheets in the three halfs of football he's played for England (Trinidad, Mexico, Japan), I wouldn't have taken him. I'd have Paul Robinson with Scott Carson.

Or Ben Foster. Or Ross Turnbull. Or Paul Rachubka. Or Steve Harper. Hell, I'd take Wednesday's Lee Grant (who lets less than one in ten go - just Wednesday's defence suck) over Rob Green.

...........Hell, I'd take Wednesday's Lee Grant.....

I have often thought that the only players that should be eligible for the England national team would be those that play in lower divisions.

I don't see the point in picking players who earn ridiculously large amounts of money and become so precious over their own careers that they loose the edge that made them the good player in the first place.

Watching the Premier league proves that these players are capable of much more but when it comes to the big occasion they don't really turn up; I'd much rather see lower league players 'having a go' any day of the week; after all, that's what the English game should be.

It's too easy to criticise Green for one error of judgement when the team didn't perform well enough to see out the right result.

Todays the day.... Holland in action... Can't wait to see them... Should be a good match between them and Denmark. 👍 Got the afternoon off and will be heading to the pubs in a couple hours... WOOOHOO!! :D
