If Holland wants to beat Brazil they will need to step it up a notch and play like they did two years ago against France and Italy... The football theyve been showing lately doesnt have me convinced they will be able to beat Brazil... :( Guess i'll have to wait til Friday....

Actually, I don't recall the name of the player who took that shot toward England's goal much because I was watching the game as using the internet also

Apparently you don't recall the team of the player who took that shot toward Germany's goal much either.

Or read things.

I was amazed, having watched the game, to learn that it was a shot from Germany. Only it looked rather like Frank Lampard took the shot for England and Manuel Neuer failed to save it for Germany.

Still, glad you're here to set me straight.

And Brazil seems to have beaten Chile, Dutch also appears to have knocked out Slovakia by the way :)

Again, thanks for the update of events 12 hours ago that have been noted in post 1 of this thread since then. Finger on the pulse, I see.

Pae, foste cavalleiro.
Hoje a vigilia é nossa.
Dá-nos o exemplo inteiro
E a tua inteira força!

Dá, contra a hora em que, errada,
Novos infieis vençam,
A benção como espada,
A espada como benção!

Father, you were a knight.
Today the watch is ours.
Give us the full example
And your entire strength!

Give, against the time when, wrongly,
New infidels won,
The blessing as sword,
The sword as blessing!

A Portugal vs Spain match in the finals of a World Cup, or Euro Cup, is an unpredictable match. I honestly can't point out a favourite. It's a match that likely will be decided in small details and both teams have the players to do it.

I truly hope that tonight Portugal would do and exhibition in the same line they did against Brazil - strong in the back and fast counter-attacking actions. For that I believe that we should begin with these three players in front: Ronaldo - Liedson - Simão. Both Ronaldo and Simão can easily switch frequently from sides (left to right and vice-versa), while Liedson, while short and (apparently) fragile has a characteristic that no other player have in the portuguese team: no ball its a lost ball until its actually of the pitch or in the keepers hands. And that "aggressiveness" can be crucial in these kind of games.

As for Paraguay vs Japan, I personaly feel that Japan as the team, players and had been showing the level enough to go through the next stage (let's hope, against Portugal).

I would like to see Portugal go to the quarter-finals but I don't think they'll be able to beat Spain. My predictions for today:

Spain 2 x 0 Portugal
Paraguay 2 x 2 Japan in regular time, no goals in extra time and Paraguay wins in the penaltys.

Let's bag Spain, boys!

Queiroz used the Brazil game to rehearse. Hopefully we'll be solid at the back and flowing at the front. Miguel was our best bet to cover the right corridor a few years ago; sadly, he has lost his flare and confidence after the injury, and he'll have to put up with Villa.

I'd like to see what Deco has to offer. He's much more of a playmaker than Tiago, who isn't a pure "number 10". And please, Hugo Almeida between Simão and Ronaldo. Hugo Almeida has so much to offer, but he has been ignored for years. It's ridiculous, he even fits our playing style.

I hope to see the same Portugal line up that started against North Korea and agreeing with Kubalivre, with Hugo Almeida between Simão and C. Ronaldo. And a pity Nani got injured right before the cup started, because I much rather see Nani playing in the National Team than C. Ronaldo.
I also rather see Tiago playing than Deco. I feel Deco had his time in 2004 - 2006. Now, he lost just lost his magic, IMO.

Good luck to both teams.. but Im for Spain on this one... :)

I agree completely! Deco is low on moral nowadays, so he wont do us any good! Hugo Almeida is an experience player in these competitions;)!

You remembered:sly:

Meh, is this World Cup thingy still on?

And where have all these Portuguese members come from?

From Portugal

OMG Dasilva will get 2 red card on this game and one penalty for Japan, at 78' and 88' (Two elbow and fist blow). Pfff damned referer.

It's a close match but Japan play better i think, but they feel more tired than Paraguay.

Let's go Japan !!!👍

Japan was stolen 2 times on non arbitrator's decision on two elbows Dasilva blow what should have been given a red and a penalty against the Paraguayans.
But Japanese mentality education is so good. they'r say nothing and respect this POOOOR referer. Imagine Italia instead of Japan, it would have been entitled to three rolls and 5 players around the referee. :guilty::crazy::ouch:

Merci pour tout les Japonais, je vous aime !👍

In terms of the GTP Fantasy Football, I'm glad goals scored in penalty shoot-outs don't count. :)
In terms of my other Fantasy Football league(s), I'm gutted that goals scored in penalty shoot-outs don't count. :(

So, 4 South American teams in the QF's, and a possibility that all 4 could make the Semis

(and I've got money on two of them :P)

That was so awful. I hope Komano doesn't wander into Aokigahara when he gets home.

As for Hugo Almeida I honestly don't think he is the right player to start the match. Although is presence most of the time in the penalty area might (in theory) prevent one (or both) central defenders from moving up in the pitch, he's solely advantage towards Liedson is his size. He's slower, less skilled as a player and it isn't as lethal as Liedson is. He might definetively be very handy on a draw or loose situation in second time *knocks on wood*, where in such scenario we shall preferably look for high balls to the box. Onthe other hand Liedson's typical way of playing, with constant movements, aggressiveness, always looking and pushing the opponents for their mistakes might become very handy and, I'm confident, will keep both centre-defenders busy enough.

Cristiano Ronaldo his, arguably, one of the top three players in the world. And compared to the other two, he is in my personal opinion, the most complete in every aspects. I dare to say more: No other player in the world have ever yet managed to join in such high levels the speed, skill, fitness, heading, stamina, shooting ability as him.

Yes you can easily name a few players that are at least as skillful (and more) than he is. Or players that have a greater shooting power and accuracy. Or even speed. But none has gathered all these aspects as he does. He has a problem although. And that problem is the same as Ibrahimovic, or Etoo, or Drogba, so on can also complaint of. He unbalaces his national squad team because he is in such a higher level than the others. And everybody expects him to carry the whole team on his back. He is expected to play to himself, and to the team. He is the same player that scores 40+ plus in Manchester United. He is the same player that practically carried Real Madrid on his back in the first year there and still managed to be 2nd best scorer of the team with 20+ goals, and he isnt even a striker.

The thing is you are one thing when you play with Rooney, Scholes, Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Van der Sar, or Raul, Higuaín, Diarra, Kaka. Other is played with Simão, a (shadow of) Deco, Duda, and so on. Look at Messi. It's hard to tell if he is in better company with Ibrahimovic and Henry or with Higuaín and Tevez...

I also pity Nani's injury, because he was in one hell of a moment and would be undoubtly the company of Ronaldo and Liedson/Almeida in front.

As for Deco, he is far, very far, from the magnificent midfielder he was in 2003-2007 (more or less). And the problem is that after Rui Costa and him, there isn't no one seemingly likely to be able to replace him properly (there's one that might, if he wasn't been "spoiled" in his team playing in every possible position but that as a '10': João Moutinho).

Villa has been one of the few players (alongside Messi perhaps) who has actually surpassed very high expectations... Torres has looked very jaded, like Rooney, but considerably more handsome.

If you want Portugal, we have Nicolas Anelka for replacing Ronaldo. :sly::sly::sly:
OMG this player is cut 3 dangerous portugal attack with 2 shoots on space, and he was playing awfull all the match. :ouch:

I was for Portugal but they have not played offensive like they much to do.
