Mexico seem to have the higher technical ability and organisation at the back, that said, South Africa have a high level of fitness and impressive speed. They keep cutting the mexican defence with long through balls to run onto.

Well, after an ordinary half, that game certainly woke up! I think a draw is a fair result given SA were playing largely on the break but Mexico lacked real composure in the last third. That's how I saw it at least!

Good Match:tup:
Interesting to watch...fairly disputed, exciting second half:)

Waiting for 19 GMT to cheer Uruguay:sly:

I thought that was going to be a goal in the last minute. Great feed from the keeper over the top of... Well, everyone!

That's pretty much what I saw too. I think the pace and strength of SA was too much for the Mexicans who are a far more tactically and technically astute team.

South Africa's goal was beautiful. Classy, not an overpowered shot, yet it went straight for the net's corner.

Dissapointed overall, but oh well...

South Africa preserve the record of no host ever losing the opening game of a Finals.

Looks like Tshabalala made it a night to remember...

And Mexico preserve their record of never winning the opening game of a world cup. :embarrassed:

I dont get why this thread its called Soccer World Cup 2010 Finals Thread...

It is to distinguish between world and American football, given the large portion of northern american members for this website. Also the site owner is from the US so naming it Soccer is not surprising.

This for discussing the game of football you play with your feet and a world event that contains more than one country

(sorry if I offend any of my American co-contirbutors ;) )

Actually, the thread isn't called that... the thread itself is called just "World Cup 2010 Finals Thread" but has been labelled "Soccer" for the purposes of forum organisation - the forum software sometimes automatically runs the two together when viewed from inside the actual thread, i.e. when you are posting, hence some threads in the NASCAR forum might look like they are called things like the "NASCAR NASCAR thread" for example. If this thread had been labelled "Football", it would appear in the wrong subforum.

Should it be called soccer or should it be called Football? there's only one way to find out.......

England vs. USA 19:30 BST, tomorrow.

Oh crap, My guess was completely wrong... :yuck:

I was certain of a Mexican triumph, but the bafanas were wickedly fast and deserved that nice goal, that's what I call a lethal counterthrust. 👍

Now I'm really looking forward to see Uruguai and France, and of course, cheering for Uruguai. :D

I was expecting more from Mexico. If it wasn't for SA's #4 forgetting to join the offside line of his team they wouldn't have scored.

Hehe, your disco roots are showing.

And now for the second game of the night...

I reckon France 1 - 0 Uruguay

My second prediction is that, at this rate, I may run out of wine before the game finishes :indiff:

I see the French fans have their cocks out again.

I'd love to see Uruguay win. I always rated the Chinaman but I think he has retired now (Alvaro Recoba). Despite this and the fact that the French have been practicing their head butting in training, I think France will win 1-0 2-1.

I would rather see Uruguay win...but if money was involved I would bet in a 3-1score for France:indiff:

"Ribery puts it exactly where Govou wants it"
"So what does Govou do wrong?"
"Miss"

Expert football analysis on the BBC: Because we're worth it.

Not exactly a thrilling match so far, but the two teams have shown enough to demonstrate that they are probably both going through in this group.

Thats what i thought... but if the rest of the world calls it Football (by its original name), i think they should (in this thread) refer to it has football.

I see now... thanks for clearing that up:tup:!

EDIT: I bet on England tomorrow, naturally;)!
