Right, I'm not really sure if there's any formalities I need to go through, but I'd like to "join" FITT. I've been a GTP member for nearly 3 years now and have always been impressed with FITT's competitions and the organisation as a whole. Sadly, I've not had the time to join until now. I'm now at uni and I've gotten my hands on a PS3 and a copy of GT6. I've been posting tunes quite recently, some of you may have seen them in the database. I came here because I'd like to start participating in events, as well as joining some of your rooms online to further test my tunes. And of course, I'm really looking forward to having other people test my tunes comprehensively and give good, detailed feedback.

Woah, woah, woah, wait a minute. What do you mean there's no sign up or formalities? :odd: Bring me my toolbag, he can undergo the same initiation everyone else has. Think I'm gonna start with the mole grips this time :mischievous:

Joking aside, just throw your cap in @Beeblebrox237, fresh blood is always welcome

{Cy}
Bah he will get the same trial by fire that everyone else gets. I hope he has a fire and bullet resistant suit  :mischievous:

I'm just glad I slipped in while you where out Cyk ;)

Morning folks. So, I spent a good few hours testing some cars yesterday with my Clueless brethren and I think I might have come across an idea for a FITT event. However, this one may take some serious organisation and some serious commitment from any participants. As it stands, I think I can muster enough troops to support it from this end, but in order to make it spectacular, I'm going to have to rely on you guys and any peripheral members/supporters to help.

In short, I was inspired to try and replicate cars from the BTCC Touring Cars. It's well documented that I love these cars and this style of racing and that I am indelibly scarred about not being able to do so properly in the game. It's also well documented that I'm stubborn and pig-headed, so I went ahead and made the biggest fist I could of it :mischievous:

The conversation starts HERE in the Clueless Outlaw garage, which includes extracts from the regulations for the BTCC. I've included the salient bits below:

  • 300+bhp 2-litre turbo-charged direct-injection engine
  • 6 speed sequential-shift gearbox
  • Carbon clutch
  • Suspension
  • Flat floor
  • Specified rear wing profile
  • Stylised front
  • Increased driver protection
  • Front and rear-wheel drive, 975kg and 1000kg, respectively
  • Dunlop: 245 x 650 x R18
  • AP Racing specified brake package
  • Cosworth Electronics specified ECU
I duly went about trying to find cars that I could install all the above parts on (or nearest approx), whilst in some way resembling cars that feature in the actual championship. I ended up with the below list, you can see the actual cars HERE:
  • The Ford Focus ST '06
  • Honda CIVIC TYPE R '08
  • Volkswagen Scirocco R '10
  • BMW 135i Coupe '07
I then set about trying to coming up with some game specific regulations, jump HERE for the conversation, I've copied the 'regs' below:

The Cars
  • The Ford Focus ST '06
  • Honda CIVIC TYPE R '08
  • Volkswagen Scirocco R '10
  • BMW 135i Coupe '07

The Restrictions
  • Tyres: SS
  • Power: 315BHP (exc Scirocco which must be limited to 300BHP)
  • Weight: FWD - 1300kg RWD - 1400kg
  • FWD Weight distribution: 54/46

Mandatory Parts
  • Front, rear and flat-floor aero must be installed. Rear aero settings may be adjusted
  • Racing Brakes
  • ECU
  • All adjustable parts (suspension, transmission and differential)
  • Full drivetrain upgrades
  • Carbon Bonnet (coloured optional)
You may make BHP however you want, as long as you use the Sports ECU, this includes power limiting. Testing should be done in a private/online lobby, with the following restrictions:

Grip reduction: Real
Visible Damage: Off
Draft: Real
Tyre/Fuel Wear: Normal
ABS: 0-1

Hopefully I can upload a couple of videos later today (provided I can sort my IT) to show how close the racing is between these cars.

During the course of our testing and balancing of the cars it occurred to me that we could easily make an event out of these cars, but as per the start of the post, it will require commitment from a fair few people. My proposal is that instead of testing cars offline against the clock, we test against each other online. Fortune lead me to just 4 cars, which lead me to think about 4 races over 4 weeks at 4 different tracks. Ambitious, I know, and fraught with perils and pitfalls. The unformulated idea is that tuners would pick or be assigned one of the four cars, the tester likewise. Instead of submitting times, the testers will race in packs of 4. The winners will be decided as per a normal race championship, with added bonuses for quality driving cars. I had the idea that the tuner and tester could communicate during the week, in between races, allowing changes to be made to suit the forthcoming race. Almost like an actual driver and engineer. Tracks are undecided yet, we tested at Brands GP and the Ring, where all cars were well balanced. We tested at Spa too, where the Beemer dominated. Initially I didn't like this, but then I thought it might be nice to pick each track so that it benefits one particular car, to give them all a fair crack. Must be real world and must be the type of track you'd expect touring cars to feature at.

If there is sufficient interest, it'd be really cool to sort people, geographically, into quartets. I know that @NEWDRIVER2 and @danbojte will be willing to test/race and I'm sure I can find a fourth. Would there be enough interest to find another 4 or even 8?

Right, I'm sort of losing my place now, so I'll take a step back and leave the above for you folks to digest. I'll be back later, with strong coffee...

Good day gentlemen, good idea to be able to participate as a tuner can count on me, so this one resalva Scirocco car and worst car I'm picking up an GT6 for Suzuka circuit run in the range of 2: 20.5 ** off with all the help and hard ABS 1 to hit.

Not sure if I should go next or not. I may be traveling to Dubai the 2nd week in October. I would still have internet access but may run out of time to test drive. Below is what I was thinking and then some questions at the bottom.

Stagger the deadlines one week apart. This will allow tuners to focus on one car at a time and test drivers to work through one list at a time.

The Ford Challenge

2013 Ford Focus ST
No oil change or engine rebuild
Comfort Soft Tires
Rims Standard Size only
450 PP
Six Speed Transmission non-adjustable (because the stock box is odd)

2013 Mustang Shelby GT500
No oil change or engine rebuild
Sport Soft Tires
575 PP
Fully Customized Transmission

2005 Ford GT
No oil change or engine rebuild
Racing Hard Tires
650 PP
Fully Customized Transmission

Questions for the community:

1. Do you prefer this method of one car per class or would you rather pick from a handful of cars.
a.) Focus ST '13, Focus ST '06, Focus ST170 '03, Focus RS '02 - Is the RS an overdog and should be banned or let the cars be what they are?
b.) Mustang Shelby GT500 '13, Mustang Boss 302 '13, Mustang V8 GT Coupe Premium '07, Mustang GT '05
c.) 2006 Ford GT, 2005 Ford GT

2. Track suggestions please.

How about mixing it up, for the Focus have 2 cars, '06 and '13 ST.
Choice Of Mustang and the GT.
That way, choice of 2, then choice of 4 (add the Cobra for a 5th?), finally just the GT to see who sets it up the best?

Just a Thought and my $.02........or 1 car for each, either way I think I'm in for 2 classes, would test the other:)

For testers bank balances and the time it takes to sort out cars for testing in any particular order, my personal thought is the single car entry for each class would be better. For me (as a tuner) it would be easier to tune up one car only rather than look at 3 or 4 cars before deciding on which car is the best. (I too are thinking about the credits in all honesty). Have you considered giving tuners the option of tuning 2 out of the 3 classes (Beginner/Amateur/Pro). It may entice more tuners to come and attempt two which they are comfortable with rather than tuning three cars? (unless of course they want to tune 3 classes)

I like your class setup already considered and would happily tune for those particular cars. Thats my thought on it. Im sure other people may differ with opinions. My personal feeling is that testers do more work (in terms of time spent) than the tuners do, and tuners who test add a lot of time on. I say lets make it a little easier on the testers this time around.

My suggestions would be to put the Focus in SH tyres, the Mustang on SM tyres @ 525pp and to drop the Ford GT down to 600pp and on SS tyres.
As for circuits, any of the real world tracks gets me very interested.

Apparently the mustang has around 700bhp at that PP range I remember hearing, too much grunt for SM really 👍

@Motor City Hami Single car plan looks good, specs look good 👍

Maybe the American tracks (willow springs/laguna seca/Indianapolis/Daytona RC) to suit the Ford theme?

I like the single car set up after doing a 4 car pick from on two tracks on the last challenge. Although I wouldn't mind a 2 car set up for each class.
as for the gear box on the Focus ST Focus ST'13 gear box issues that has the answer, the quick answer the real car runs two final drives for fuel econo reasons, but PD implemented only the econo final drive in the game. There is a "fixed" transmission floating around here some place i'm trying to find it again.
How soon will you know if your going to Dubai? Cause we could do a quick challenge again if you will know in like a week or so.

The transmission fix has been removed by the looks of it, a 6 speed close ratio is cheaper and easier anyway 👍

My preference would be mustangs and ford GT
circuits one street for example and monaco and (la sharte 2013)

Rounding up abandoned super cars I hope
Apparently there are Ferrari's, lambo's, porches etc. just left to rust in car parks by former business owners who have gone bankrupt
and here I was thinking he wanted to go snow skiing in the desert  yeah lots of money floating around over there and lots of failed tycoon's too. Also not the safest place in the world right now.

I'm a fan of the 1 car/class challenge for a few reasons (money/time/hopefully more testers), and then maybe span them in a sequence like this....?
Week 1- Tune 1st class
Week 2- Test 1st class / Tune 2nd class
Week 3- Test 2nd class / Tune 3rd class
Week 4- Test 3rd class

Liking the real American track(s) idea. And a great group of cars!👍

I've got a '13 Focus with the real 1-4 ratios and sensibly spaced 5-6 ratios using the FC gearbox.

Yep. You guys are on to me. They have announced that they will be auctioning off the abandoned cars. http://www.emiratesauction.ae/en/Cars/OnlineAuction.aspx Just let me know what everyone wants. I can probably get you a Ferrari 430 Scuderia for like $20,000 U.S. dollars. Just tell the wife (or girlfriend) that it is an investment in a future classic. Even worth taking out a home equity loan to get it.

Looks like a trip around October 14th. There is time to get most of these going before that so that all I have to do is update lap times while I am over there. I will be working so will have internet access both at the office and at the hotel.

Sounds like a plan sir. Here is to hoping its a productive trip :). Let me know if you want access to the scoring sheet blank I have. While working with @DolHaus I figured out a super simple way to transfer it so it pretty easy to use now.

Just my 2 cents, if you want more testers then you need to make it easier on them.

Like Ford test 1 being the premium focus on 1 track. Big willow comes to mind because a well setup FF will fly around those sweepers and an understeery setup will not.

Then make Ford test 2.0 with the choice of a lighter boss, or more powerful gt500.

The point being it's a lot less intimidating when you only have one car to test because as seen with the viper challenge, it can still get complicated with all the different options available on one car.

Are we any closer to knowing if @Motor City Hami is going to be able to run the next contest? Not getting impatient or anything, just trying to keep tabs on things in case we need to throw something together in the meantime 👍
I think that the boys at Clueless have a pretty good idea for a competition. If FITT ran that one first it would give Hami a chance to do what he's gotta do with his travels. After he comes back safely, then go with his...?

As long as we have a back-up plan then everything is good 👍

I know these things can be a pain to finalise and always take a little longer than you expect, easy to get caught out if you have other time constraints.

What are the Clueless lads up to this time and why do I get the feeling someone is going to wake up in another country without trousers or any idea what's going on as a result of it?
