Hi guys,
I just had an idea for a future FITT event & wanted to get some feedback on wether you think it's a good idea or not.

Senna's WSR F3
Bathurst
RH tyres
Suspension, gearbox & aero free
All other mods banned.

One car & one circuit but enough tuning available to be interesting.

I'm open minded on the oil change as I'm sure some of us have probably done this.

Thoughts & feedback welcome.

thats the easier of the two to get right?

At night with rain 100% :D ?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Check the EAG thead. I'm sure you'll see where @TurnLeft is coming from :D ;)
@DolHaus
The Bathurst 12 hour for GT3 cars has a support race for the domestic F3 guys. They're running around the 2:02 2:03 mark. I haven't even tried the F3 there yet but I'll get back to you with a time from the default setup.
@shaunm80
Thanks for the vote of support

Oh I saw it already :scared:

Just ran a lap at Bathurst & ended up with a very ugly 2:19:172.
There's heaps of time left in the car as the default gear ratios are just plain wrong. I was in the red of 5th halfway down Conrod!
Default aero still let's you go across the top flat out but coming down the esses will be another story. She didn't like the Dipper too much.

Whats your best estimate on lap time then? 2.10-2.12s once the car is tuned with the correct gearbox settings?

If you got everything spot on, I'd be amazed if anyone human could go under 2:10. Just stacking the gear ratios right should see around the 15's. The real times should come from being brave on the aero & being smart with the spanners on the suspension.

I have managed to get a 2.16-2.17 lap with a older tune for the WSR '83 race car. Others can go quicker than me. I would estimate 2.13-2.15 being average lap time per lap based on the stability of my tune. I just need to be braver on the downhill section but a few laps shows this car works well there.

Well done Shaun :) 👍 How did your tune handle the Dipper? I almost dumped it on my one lap.
If have a fiddle with the gear ratios but I'm still dealing with the gearbox bug from the previous update. I'll be expelling that evil curse when the next update arrives. June 2nd hopefully

I have a slight problem with my tune that it likes to grip on the front tyre too much on the dipper but its easy to control through that section. No issues getting through there at speed.

I remembered the F3's dislike of all things kerby from the Senna challenges when I did my lap. I didn't find it too bad on the bumps though.
Its not awful, just makes it hard to push. If you're on the verge of making a mistake and you hit a slight bump the car just snaps, no chance of recovery.

(Grip reduction)
Low: 2:17.4
Real: 2:18.9

Mostly standard car with a few minor mods

Not as quick as I expected from the car, I've gone marginally faster in a 500pp R33 on SS and about 6 seconds faster in a 550pp F40 on SS

The default setting isn't that fast but with a bit of work on the tools...
Power pays off at Bathurst on those long straights.

I love Bathurst and the F3 is a fun car but I don't think they go well together in this instance. With low grip reduction it was easy to put a time down but with grip set to real it was more than a little frustrating, its a long lap and its so easy to bin it if you put a wheel off the racing line.

Perhaps a GT3 style car would be a better fit?

I'd like to see an event for the F3. Maybe the old Monza layout instead?
If we did a GT3 event at Bathurst, I can see it being really suitable but the question I have is, should all GT3's be eligable & If so, how do you make a slow GT3 like the BMW M3 competitive with a fast GT3 such as the Merc?
Another thought. The GT300 spec cars are good for around a 2:08 at Bathurst with everything default and a little fiddle on the gear ratios. They're fairly well glued to the track on RH rubber though. Other thoughts floating around my head are:
  • Senna's F1 at Indy oval
  • WRC cars on the tarmac somewhere
  • A 4-door 'taxi' challenge
I also have a deep burning desire to see an event for selected classics (mid '60's) with variable rubber dependent on power.

The F3 is a handling car so it will suit a handling track, Monza is a power circuit and isn't much fun unless you can at least touch 200mph. In order to find out which group of GT3 cars were suitable and balanced you'd have to test and compare them, having some kind of theme makes it easier to narrow the car list down. We did a GT300 group not long ago so I would probably steer clear of that, GT500's on the other hand could be an option.

The senna F1 car is a bit of a difficult one to use in a competition, it can be a pig to drive on a normal circuit so would deter a lot of testers and ovals are kind of boring to run round by yourself.

WRC cars on tarmac is fun and easy, no problems there. Perhaps team up with @brian wolf as he has already proposed a rally challenge?

4-door taxi again seems easy enough to put together.

Mid 60's with variable rubber is feasible but you'd need to do a lot of testing in order to make the cars competitive with one another, balancing is never as simple as it seems on paper.

Thanks for your thoughts & feedback mate
Food for thought so I'll do some more chewing & try not to choke
