Well I just think that's wrong, I can land laps as accurate as 2 or 3 tenths.

I would sign up as a tester, but I think that would be an unfair advantage since it's my course.

Well, what I should have said is due to my limited seat time I can't make consistent laps. I am a decent driver on tracks that I know in cars I am familiar with or are properly tuned for the way I drive. I don't think it would be fair for me to test cars here because I can't get in the seat time to get familiar enough to be as consistent as I would like to be. I also consider a 2-3 tenth margin of error to be acceptable especially with as many turns and tricky spots as this track has. To try to adapt to each car over the course of a few runs with my limited track knowledge would be tough for me and not fair to the cars. In my personal opinion, you would be the perfect tester because you have the best knowledge of the track. The testing stage is not really a competition amongst the drivers for best time, but a competition between the cars and tuners themselves.

You should try out my track Hillside Terrace ll. After the uphill climb it has a really fast downhill and is great for 5-600pp cars.

Okay. I feel I could use the seat time. @DolHaus could I still sign in as a tester for both groups at this stage?
I'll likely be posting my tunes in an hour or so.
More than welcome, thanks for signing up 👍

I saw we were short on testers also a couple days ago. I'll sign up for group 1 tester DolHaus. I would also encourage anyone on the fence to give it a try.

@Frenzyhero , We really need you now to balance the "tester Curve" ! 👍 Its an average lap time across the testers. Your super fast time will offset my slow time. I am not the most aggressive driver and my times usually show it.
Good man, thank you 👍

I'm still not too sure on the corner, but at this point I can't change it anyway, And if there's no conflict, then sure, I'll join as a tester (Group 1). I've got a lot of dosh from knocking out seasonals. I'm on a controller, but it shouldn't be much issue. What should I do, couple of laps, say 9 or 10 and note their fastest?
Excellent news, glad to have you on board 👍

Testing procedure is generally to give all the cars equal track time (amount of laps), how many is up to you really. You then submit the fastest time for each tune and a 1-10 score based on how much you enjoyed the car (compulsory), testers usually give a little feedback to the driver explaining what they liked and didn't like about each tune (non compulsory but appreciated)

Please be sure that the grip reduction is set to Real and all aids except ABS 1 (and driving line if you use it) are off while testing and that the cars are built exactly as described.

The time I clocked with your car (NB Miata) was 3:29.584. Felt okay, generally, but I thought the line between oversteer and understeer wasn't well enough defined. Didn't feel comfortable pushing it, especially in bumpy areas, I felt like I lost traction too quickly. I think that comes from how it felt; I didn't feel like I was getting much feedback. Biggest problem for me was the brakes - maybe it's just me but I don't understand rear-biased brakes, going downhill, in a car that isn't rear-heavy. It felt like they didn't have the stopping power I would expect from a car so light.

@chrisspeed281
I have a time for your Miata now too, if your tune is final and you want it.
The traction loss may have come from my own experiences with the car, since the first tunes I did with the car had a lot of understeer in some corners, my adjustments probably lead to going for oversteer. I never really got rid of the understeer, but at least it wasn't as bad as before and that's how I settled for it. You actually clocked faster than I did as my fastest was a 3:31.

As for the brakes, it's probably because I trail brake a lot in this course. I couldn't really get the braking points right for the downhill corners, I'd either slow down too early and mess up the entry or brake too late and go off the course.

Thanks for the feedback, at least now I have an idea of what to work on in this car. :D

Well the way I read the OP implied that testing before deadline was okay if the tune was finalized, and I asked the people who have posted tunes if they were final, and if so, if they wanted to know the laptimes I clocked.

You were the Impreza, right? I can't give much feedback on that one. I clocked a fast time, but I can't really get near it again. The most I can say is I don't feel comfortable on turn in. Maybe some downforce or more 4WD. Hard to say.

DC hidden? Huh (What does DC mean)? The laptimes? Since each tester is running the car themselves, does it really matter? Yes, I was going to give scores officially, mostly due to lack of initial participation, though.

Or does it mean Driver's Choice? I haven't posted a score on them yet. Honestly I don't have any reference for it so I was going to test the waters with it first, to see how aggressive people are with these scores. It seems that people are generous with scores here (not necessarily FITT itself).

Yes, DC is Driver Choice. :)

Oh yeah, you are right. If a tune is finalised, feel free to test away. That is my understanding from the OP too and that is also how I run my events. 👍

I was the Impreza tune for this event, I liked the look of the car and wanted to try something different. 4WD rotation is a little odd, I will agree with that.

I can understand your feeling about being first to test the waters with DC scores. I am probably one of the generous scorers you mention. Guilty as charged :) I like to think that I am easy to please but it could also be that whenever I test cars, I get on pretty well with most of them submitted.

On another note, thank you for taking the time to test, As a tuner, I never under appreciate the time and effort that testers put in. If it wasn't for them, these events would not get off the ground so you have my sincere gratitude.

It's not really a problem, I've got too much time on my hands nowadays anyway, and the recent seasonals have given a ton of credits. Speaking of time though... you know those two 90* degree corners? I have trouble with the Impreza through there. It understeers and hits the grass. I kept trying and trying, but I'm either too slow or I runoff through there. And I don't mean I'm not rotating it properly, it's that weird 4WD thing, where you're pointed one way but you're still going another. Not a drift, but not really a slide, either. I have the replay if you want it, but I'm not really proud of how messy it is. My fastest time came early on in testing it. I really didn't want to have to end it on such a nasty run, it looks like the car can be faster than what I ran it at, but my hands started aching, and I had spent too long with it, and it didn't look like I was going to catch the time. Anyway, did you want to know the time it clocked?

I can't give much advice other than what I'm feeling, I'm not much of a tuner. Some of your cars are clocking at most 0.9 seconds faster than my same cars. I think at least half a second is being gained from having a tuned tranny.
Your time will probably be faster than my best so yeah, ill be interested to know your best lap time. :)

I was consistently able to keep the car on the track by braking a little earlier than normal, hitting the apex at a slower speed and then using the traction of the 4WD system to power out without the rear slipping and sliding. I know that a tuner will drive his car better as they tuned its habits and behaviours. It will be interesting to see if anyone else can get on with the setup I made.

3.28.544.
As I said turn in was my main issue. It felt heavy in the front, but I didn't feel like I had the traction of a 4WD, which would normally make that a good thing. So, I tended to oversteer, this was especially apparent in higher-speed corners; but my timid braking probably had a role in that too. That one isn't your fault, I just don't drive old Imprezas often. First-gen Imprezas all feel weird under braking. I've tried a lot of them in the past few days and they all have a floaty feeling until you really lay on the brakes.
Would you mind collating your times and drivers choice points in a single post please, just makes it a lot easier when I have to collect all the times at the end of the contest, thanks 👍

Been chop off the crabbing behaviour of this 4wd as much as possible. Hope it's handling more easy to push a bit harder.

Welcome back. I hope nothing serious happened IRL. Btw congrats on the podium in the FT-86 challenge:tup:
Nothing bad just got busy with work and side jobs/projects. and thanks, I was a bit shocked to see I did that good. but, on this I am rethinking a tune from GT5 and really thinking it through. So, be prepared to see a somewhat familiar car dressed up with a new attitude.

Edit: Apparently my car does not like curbs, it tries to kill me every time I touch one.

It's called crabbing. That's the hardest thing to get worked out on 4wd cars is controlling the crabbing at high speed.
Crabbing is what you get with really bad wheel alignment in real life, what you are experiencing with 4wd's is simply the front and rear tires getting overwhelmed simultaneously due to the increase linear load causing a four wheel drift or powerslide.
The solution lies in the front/rear torque distribution (less linear load = more lateral grip), weight distribution (put some junk in the trunk to push the nose into the corner) and spring rates (make sure the rear lets go first under acceleration).
