Initial results of NB testing tonight:

1600 NB '04 @ Tsukuba after 6 laps = 1:06.873

1600 NA '89 @ Tuskuba after 8 laps = 1:07.080

The '89 model requires a bit more effort to go that fast, where as the NB is just that quick out of the box pretty much. Getting a bit late here, more on this tomorrow.

:)

Man, I set the pole repeatedly today at Tsukuba in the 1:08.5 range -- I don't know where I'll knock 1.5s off...

As for NA vs NB, I've been doing some testing of my own with stock miatas on sport softs and comparing the best of 30 laps, the '04 1600 NR-A is ~0.3s faster than the '89 Eunos on a tight/technical/hilly ~1:30 course I made at Mt Aso...

Ok, so I just stumbled on this series and was curious...do most people use wheels? I have one, but it's packed up in storage and have just been playing with the DS3. I decided to try out this setup to see where I stood in relation to the competiton to see if it was even worth trying to compete without the wheel, or if I should dig it out of storage. Seems like you have a good way to set up a series and might entice me to try online racing for once.

We use both, but I'm sure the majority of people in Online Racing use a wheel. It comes down to preference of course. I use my G27, able to make small, smooth adjustments and stay closer to the racing line then a DS3 controller can.

I use a controller, and was able to stay competitive with the others during the testing we did. The lower power and specs of the car make it so that with practice, I think either can be competitive (or at least be able to decently keep up).

This is not to say I wouldn't like to upgrade lol

What are the specs on the NB when you got that laptime?

Peoples - Don't feel bad about the lap times. R1.6T is fast.

Slightly off topic, but not really since this is titled "General Discussion" - Does anyone have information on the Borg Warner EFR turbos in comparison to Garrett equivalents?

I'm interested in this series? Any requirements to get in, other than the qualifying? And what's up with all this I've seen about "breaking the car in"?

Registration will be open when I get back from Orlando on Thursday. After purchasing a new car you'll notice after a couple hundred miles that the power will go up with an oil change or two. That's basically what we're talking about. The '89 Miata will start out at 134hp after all the allowed mods, and when fully broken-in will be at 138hp.

Edit: @ filphil: I'll be posting the info for the NB shortly. We're going to try it out for the practice race, and if it looks good then we'll keep it. If not, well then we won't. :D

Ok, I've added the 1600 NB to the car list. Please read the note on the first page regarding this car. If you would like to run the car and do not have one, I have an extra that I can provide.

I figured that a single person doing the testing for both cars only means so much, so using the car during the first practice race will really tell us what we need to know. :)

woah, did you really mean to give the NB the extra weight reduction?

Also I'm opening a practice room if anyone wants to join (edit). I'll be concentrating on these courses:

Clubman Stage 5 (pre-season race)
Cape Ring Inside
Grand Valley East
Tsukuba Circuit
Autumn Ring Mini
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca

edit: I temporarily lost connection and it dropped me as host so a bunch of randoms took over. We're moving to a R1600turbo room....

Started a room at Clubman: 1472-6118-3830-2746-0616

Room closed.

Just a note to everyone that starts up a SM practice room, please check the "fixed host" box when you create the room. That way if you drop for some reason, a bunch of random people don't take over the room.

More good news testing the NB tonight. It did run faster than my '89, but I was able to get back into the '89 and climb my way back up it. So they are pretty close. I will say that the NA likes to understeer when pushed too far, and the NB is a bit tail happy. So depending on your driving style either car could suit you. The pre-season race will show us exactly how close they are, but I feel good about this one. :)

so far I'm testing the NB with stage 2 weight reduction (945kg) and finding that it is just .1-.2s slower than the NA with exact same mods. So it looks like it can either be .2 faster (stage 3 WR) or .2 slower (stage 2 WR)

Given that we are running this season on a PP limit, the car requires the Stage 3 weight reduction. Mods that are allowed/required are in the first post and should be adhered to.

Another nice practice. Was able to put down two 1:07.9xx in an NA at Tsukuba. spdu4ea was using the NB, so I don't know how he did.

Good fun đź‘Ť

Aaack! 9 laps into a 10 lap race and right on his tail waiting for lap 10's draft to pass when my connection went kaput... Stupid storm...

Anyway, I was just testing the NB with stage 2 WR to see if it would be a better way to make the NA vs NB cars even. It isn't. While it is only a little shy in lap times, that extra 90kg means it tends to get left behind exiting turns so you can easily lose the draft when racing wheel to wheel...

As it stands (with NB getting 3 stages of WR), what little time is gained in flyer laps is probably lost in consistency and in stability when getting nudged mid-turn. The NB is that much more balanced.

Disregard the stricken text, just rebuilt the NB's engine and found an extra 5hp. It now makes 142hp, but that may go up even more after my btards finish breaking it in on the roadster endurance overnight.

On the bright side, I was able to assimilate some of xAmilli0n's lines on Tsukuba and dropped my personal best with the Spec NA from 1.08.48x to 1.07.490! I can now consistently maintain WOT through turns 5 and 6, but I'm still giving away time on turn 8

Looking to get involved in this, so just bought the '89 NA and kitted it out as required. Just wondering how often you guys are runnin' some test sessions as I'd like to get out on track and join in. Spent a little time at Tsukuba this evening in practice first to start to break the car in, then ran a few laps in my own lounge to compare. Times were much closer than I thought they would be, which was good.

I'll keep my eyes on this thread to see if anyone has a practice room open over the next few days.

Most of the active guys of the last season are still wrapping up other competitions. We're all excited to start practicing after the sign up thread's posted. And it's going up and the end of this week (like he's said)

So most of the regulars are busy, you'll see tons of practice rooms popping up starting next weekend.

Hi Guys (and gals?), I have a few things going on, but this one sounds like it might be fun. I'll keep my eye on the thread and likely join if the time works out.

Thanks Wardez, I appreciate your response. I'll keep my eyes peeled here to see what's happening, but I'm guessing we're going to have to be quick to sign up in the top 16 for this one! :)

Hey MajikTom, another Calgary based racer I see!
