Tripod picture is pretty awesome!

I'll never be comfortable paying for iRacing. The way they have it structured it costs almost as much as real racing; then you have to chew up so much of your life with it to feel like you're getting value. I never want MMORPG syndrome.

Could someone expand on this? How does a video game cost as much as actual competitive racing?

Yeah RT, I almost wanna use that amazing grandstand wide shot as a wallpaper, good stuff 👍 that's what happens when racers can't race xD

It doesn't. It works like an MMO or gym membership. You can learn all about the cost per track and car at their site. That's where people start to get overwhelmed. But the thing is, it's like a gym where you pay for better exercise equipment. It's just different equipment (cars and tracks) you can choose to buy, but you can work out(race) just fine without them.

I've been iRacing for a year now, and I've only bought the Skip Barber car, the Williams F1 car, Silverstone and VIR and I've had a blast. The thing I like best is that since there's big consequences for wrecking on track everyone is super clean and there's a race every hour so I can count on a competitive clean race whenever I enter one.

Here's my situation with iRacing to give you an idea of cost:
For 12 months @ 15 dollars a month added with the price of two cars and two tracks I've spent a whopping $240 dollars for a million dollar's worth of extremely fun racing so far.

I play it fine just hopping into a race every once in a while. It's actually the opposite of what you think. You don't have to constantly race to feel like you're getting value since everything's structured around how good you are at racing, not how fast or how much you do.
Like the championships. You can race 12 races a day and win every one. But if the people you beat didn't have higher iRatings (skill levels) then you don't get as many championship points.

So if you increase your iRating by racing cleanly and finishing top 5 against good people (higher splits) then if you race 4 times that same day as mister 12 races then you'll get more points toward your championship.
Getting to understand it all after I read over the rules and such (over and over lol) I got super excited and it still gets me excited.

Wow I totally went off into iRacing world. I apologize if I seem like an infomercial for them, I'd hate that. I'm just talking race to racer. Anyone can PM me if you have any questions.

I remember you talking about the consequences one before. That aspect of the game is really what got me interested. I, personally, don't like how I have to browse GTP for a good race group. To put it bluntly, it's pretty damn annoying to have to do that. With that in mind, Wardez, I've been sold on iRacing. The goal for the summer is to weld up a rig with a junkyard car seat(or just buy one since I can be pretty lazy). I found out that the laptops we have at the house can handle iRacing just fine.

I've been sold on iracing ever since I picked up gt5 in november. Now that I've spent about 1000 dollars on gt5 alone (2ps3's + GT5 + dfgt +g27) I can't say the cost is too much....Although my bank account would disagree...

Problem is, I don't have a pc :( I'll be tryin to get one when I go off to school but we'll see :)

When I looked at the system requirements, it wasn't that much. However with PC games that depends entirely on the resolution/screen size you want to run in combination with the video quality settings. When I used to really be in to PC building I used to just buy second hand parts from forums and such(Last un-opened motherboard blew on me, no one's fault except my own though). You'll just have to do your homework and make sure you don't have a major bottleneck in your rig.

I still don't play iRacing because of the cost. Mainly because I wouldn't be happy with just one car and two tracks and a monthly membership fee. No only that, I don't have a PC and can't afford to purchase one right now. (would rather spend it on a real car)

That depends on the person. I can see how that would deter people from looking in to iRacing. Personally, I don't think I'd have a problem since the only car I've really be using for online racing has been the miata because of what we have going on here.

The fact PSN is down is giving us time to think of other racing games/sims that we can play and overall forget about GT5. Sony better get a move on to get the PSN up. 360 is laughing at us now.

You already have a wheel and monitor RT so all you would need is $350 to build a decent computer rig and you're good to go. Also, you get 6 cars and 8 tracks. Nationwide car's coming out soon and will be the first with the new tire model that's supposed to blow us away with its feel.

Has anyone done the Nordschleife run yet in their Miata?

Tried doing that last night, but crashed about 3 minutes in.

Will probably try it again tonight.

At this point in my life, that $350 goes a long way towards the car I'm saving for. Not that I don't want iRacing, would love to have it. It's just not financially smart for me to invest in something like that right now.

No Nordschleife in the Miata, currently 2 hours in to the 4-Hour Endurance at the Nurb though. :dopey:

Anyone else finding it kind of funny the way we took over that Cappucino RM thread? (I hesitate to use the term "hijacked" since it was a well-intentioned takeover.)

It's for the better good, though.

I shudder to think what would have happened if we didn't step in.

The Spec Miata's kinda boring at the North Loop...

GT car's fun though 👍

I tried them breifly earlier today. I'll post some times later tonight when I'm back from the work.

Just finished the Nurburgring 4 Hour Endurance. Used the Lexus IS-F RM after several unsuccessful attempts trying to get a regular street car to compete. Ended up being a bit faster than everyone else, but oh well. I just wanted to get it over with. Was going good until I had a tire blow out with an hour and a half to go. (AKA wore the tires down too far)

That's the bad part about not having the HUD on, you have to visually keep track of the laps and how the car feels to estimate where the tires are at. I crossed the finish line saying to myself that I could make it one more lap. WRONG. Spun out twice and limped back to the pits at 40 mph. Cut my three minute lead down to about a minute. I got about 30 seconds of that back before the finish of the race.

I could have probably made it a better fight for the lead by using Sport Soft tires, but...oh well.

I read somewhere the other day that Japan and Europe will be getting their PSN servers up today while we will be getting the servers back online tomorrow. Damn hackers always ruin everything for all of us!

I may give that combo a shot, that sounds awesome. 👍 Was the car stock other than the RM?

If it was the car used for the Lexus series, then it should be stock, other than a Catalytic convverter.

I took the converter off for the race, which brought the car down to 505hp I think.

Ok, bought the car, did the RM, and I'm half a level too low to do the race.

Not sure the best way to level up. I do know that after the race I got tons of experience points, because I was hardly 1/3 into level 33 and I leveled up to 34 afterwords.

I'm doing the All-Stars series right now, I'll see how far that gets me, then I might try to silver some of the Vettel challenges.
