stig I can't help but laugh that you're moving to Michigan and the first thing you think of is buying a roadster. đź‘Ť
really really really good snows on 14" wheels and a hard-top are the first "mods" you should be looking for.
Haha well obviously :D but I won't actually be there for the worst of the snow :)

Does it snow there? lol. I live in NJ so as soon as there's any time of snow I don't go to classes. đź‘Ť
It snowed 2 inches when I was there 2 weeks ago :P and they have tunnels to get to all the classes because of it :dopey:

Didn't you quit this series? And if I could afford an STI I'd have one. Trust me :)

rwd + lsd +snow tires >> fwd + all seasons. And it's not like he's gonna have to drive it somewhere after every snowfall. I know a couple of people who daily-drove their NAs through Minnesota winters, which are worse than Michigan ones. Don't know though if Flint, MI is gonna have enough dough to afford cleaning streets next winter :)

I drove last winter here in va with 5 inches of snow with low profiles on my tc and I lvoe snow driving, so I've got a ton of experience. Family's originally from PA so I've spent a bunch of winters up there. Flint doesn't get dumped on so much as always having 2 or 3 inches on the ground.

But yeaaaaah maybe I should put a plow on the front as my first mod ;)

^ "X inches of snow" is easy, just have tires with deep thread and you'll be ok. Packed snow/ice is another matter.
I already have a set of snows on steelies for Miata. Just gotta buy a Miata now, lol.

I've driven in snow in a Miata with summer tires. Made it to work and back several times, and had a blast drifting in the parking lot in slow motion. :D

I do not recommend it, though. I was doing about 40 mph on a flat, straight divided highway, when the car just randomly decided it wanted to spin for no reason whatsoever. I was 45 degrees to the direction of the road and not slowing down at all, when suddenly I got enough grip back to right the car. Pretty scary. Then I got all the way home and couldn't make it over the iced-up curb to the driveway. :banghead:

I'll definitely be picking up some snow tires this coming winter.

Don't know how those guys were freezing in their Miata's, cause the heaters in those things are damn good.

The stock 6-speed sucks. They might be slightly stronger than the 5-speed, but they also shift like crap and with a high power car you'll need a really tall final gear if you don't want to shift all the time. The 6th gear ratio is nearly the same as 5th gear in the 5-speeds. It's not an overdrive gear. You I couldn't count on two hands how many 6-speeds I swapped out for 5-speeds when I worked at FM. They just feel so much better, and they will last if you take care of it. (use the right fluids as well)

My last NB was a 2001 with a 6-speed, my current is a 2002 with a 5-speed.

6th is overdrive (5th is 1:1 IIRC), it just doesn't feel like it because the rear end is so short. 6th in a 6-speed is just barely taller than 5th in a 5-speed; it is definitely NOT a highway cruising gear (why did they put them so close?). 1st is significantly shorter, and 2nd is nice and short. What I liked about the 6-speed was that you could comfortably cruise a parking lot in 2nd. But I still recommend the 5-speed for the biggest reason you mentioned, which is feel. My old 6-speed was just a pain. The extra acceleration really didn't make up for the difficulty of finding the gears. I've driven stick since I learned to drive, and I just never felt 100% comfortable with the 6-speed. My 5-speed is a joy. :)

I just got back from Fast Five, and it was great. :D I've renamed it "Ocean's Furious".

Evo or STI with snows, of course. I'm one of those people that would like to have two sets for winter/summer use, 4wd or not

How do YOU say Evo? I say Eh-Vo and not E-Vo. Is there a reason that people say E-Vo?

Huh, that's funny, never thought about it. I say EHvolution, but have always just called the car an EEvo. :odd: I think it's that way for most people around here also.

I read the Project 707 blog a couple of weeks ago, really enjoyed it. I would never consider doing anything like that, but it's always great to see someone else's passion expressed in an unexpected way.

Project 707? Does FM keep a record of cars built with their help?

They've been keeping project logs of most customer cars that require more than just a simple installation. Most V8 swaps get a project log, and cars that get complete makeovers pretty much.

That's why I asked. if that 707 means that they have done 707 make-overs then that's a lot of miata. lol

Oh, no. The car was named that for some reason. Most projects get a nick-name of sorts.

Edit: 707 is the paint code for the color they used.

ya estoy hasta la madre de tanta espera! me dan unos retorcijones en las manos y mi volante ya esta con telarañas. ya nos cargo el payaso!!!

god... its amazing what we go on about when psn is down.

and yes the heaters are generally quite good in the miata.... but try it in -10 F with a frozen soft top. it isn't much fun; even making the back window useable is quite a chore.
just a warning... it gets old real quick.

On the Evo - STI topic:

I say eevolution and eevo.

And as for which one to purchase; eff that noise dude. I'll take my AWD Mazdaspeed6 anyday. I see so many 2fast2furious STIs and Evos owned by toolchest fanboys that have no clue how to drive or work on their cars that I find it hard to ever want to own one. Don't get me wrong, the Evo and STI are both better performers than the MS6 but the MS6 is a nicer car are far more unique. They only made 7500 MS6s but aftermarket parts are readily available due to the Mazdaspeed3 using the same powerplant.

lol @ toolchest fanboys.

I'd love to own an evolution/sti some day but the cost is prohibitive. The huge surplus of aftermarket support is a big plus for me.

My beef with the MS6/MS3(as you know I own the ms3) is the lack of suspension goodies. I bought BC coilovers thinking "it's better than nothing" which has the front camber plates on it. Terrible, terrible idea. If I had to do it again I would have waited a while longer and contacted vorshlag/AST for a custom solution.

Just pasted this into Google translate and... Spanish is weird. :odd:

Yeah there is a lack of suspension bits but I just threw on some trusty Eibachs and will go from there. I guess because I use my MS6 mainly for winter/daily driving duties I don't need fully adjustable solutions. My M3 feels a bit more at home on the track than my MS6 anyways. :P

You know I wouldn't mind trying an M3 oriented spec series. lol.

I'm up to the mother waiting so long! I get some cramps in my hands and my wheel and this with cobwebs. and we charge the clown!

Thanks for the links guys :) Gave me some fun reading material for last night :D
OH and I would take an STI over ANY awd car of any kind. Although I do find the MS6 to be a much more beautiful car.
