FM7 vs. PCars 2 vs. GT:Sport

If I recall, you're currently not commited to a console?

I would certainly give FM7 a look before buying a PS4, unless other titles have you set 100%.

Edit: oh my god this .

I'm not. I've been debating about what console to get first. I'll eventually get both, but for now.. I'm kinda leaning toward getting a Xbox first..

Assuming you're using a controller and not a wheel, the Xbox One controller is much better for driving games.

The triggers have longer travel which allows you to use more sensitive settings, the sticks have better grips and are more resistant to wear, and the triggers also have built-in rumble motors that most games use to give you a better feeling of the brakes/throttle when driving at the limit.

Regardless of exclusive games or console-specific features, I'd recommend the Xbox One over the PlayStation 4 to any racing fan; the controller is that good.

Spot on. I'd also say the location of the thumbstick is much better on the Xbox One controller. The movement of your thumb is much less complicated when compared to the DS4.

Yeah, I'll be on a controller. So I'll definitely will need to get myself a Xbox One for FM7 and PC2. What one don't have, the other will. I'll get a PS4 for other games that my other friends get.

Yeah fully agree on the controllers and not just for racing. I even have the Xbox One Elite controller and prefer it much over the PS4 Pro gamepad.

The PS4 Pro pad has a nifty touchpad but so far I haven't seen a game yet that uses it other than the keypress below it. But I assume in some RPGs or something it can be used to navigate a map.

PS4 still rocks for the exclusive titles though like Horizon Zero Dawn, the Uncharted series and The Last of Us.

Even with the last consoles, that I owned being PS3 and XBOX 360. I preferred the XBOX 360 Controller and due to the length of time of playing with the 360 controller. It probably all originated with the original XBOX small controller after they replaced the large controller. I just moved to the XBOX ONE finally with Windows 10 on my PC about 8-10 months ago. I am enjoying using it, now. It seems like they improved them, since the release version. I did not like the thumbsticks at first and stayed with the 360 controller.

I'm probably stating the obvious here but it makes a pretty good PC controller as well, especially for Forza games (all two of them so far) should that be your platform of choice (or one of your platforms of choice).

As it stands right now I no longer own a PS4 (my third one recently died out of warranty)

I am definitely buying Forza 7
Probably won't bother with Project CARS 2
I Really need to see how good GT Sport is (once launched and the hype train has settled down) as to whether or not I feel it is worth buying another PS4 for........

Maybe stating the obvious, but with the current pricing I wouldn't recommend anyone cheap out on less than the "s" version Xbox1.

As for the controller, it's easily the best I've ever used, in almost every way possible.
The PS controllers are easier to operate a menu with a single hand. (Good lord that sounds bad)
I chain smoke while playing more often than I wish, and grew used to navigating the PS3 games with a smoke in one hand.

Better controller(Rumble triggers, much longer battery life, better triggers, better material quality & elite controller), better network(based on actual research too), more and better services(Play Anywhere, EA Access & Xbox Game Pass), backwards compatibility(with added support constantly), built-in 4K bluray(X1S & X1X) and better customer service(Honestly Sony customer service is a joke).

Not including the perks of X1X; more powerful(1.8 TF power advantage or an entire PS4 worth of power), no need for a boost mode as all games are tested by Microsoft to make sure they work with the power of X1X(It's a joke that Sony leaves it to their customers to risk it), system-level super sampling(not offered on PS4 Pro yet), system level texture filtering(every game on X1X from original Xbox emulation to a brand new game will have texture filtering automatically), system level 4K 60 game recording and streaming without affecting GPU or CPU, smaller and of course that 4K bluray.

As far as exclusives go, it's up to your preferences but Xbox One has a bunch of great exclusives including the usual Halo, Gears and Forza but also Sunset Overdrive, Crackdown, State of Decay, Sea of Thieves, Killer Instinct, Halo Wars and more.

A lot of those games and even services are available on PC but that's a good thing, Microsoft isn't adverse to their community playing on PC instead of Xbox; people play where they want.

Nothing wrong with a healthy debate. Wish I could say more but I haven't played any sim racing since last gen although I did finally pick up Project Cars and also a brand new rig to go with my old trusty PWTS so I'm hoping to have a good experience with it.

Pre-ordered both FM7 and PC2 for the XBOX ONE. I own a wheel (Logitech G920) for the XBOX ONE, so that determines my choice mostly. Also I prefer the XBOX controller for racing games if I need to play on a controller.

Still own a PS4 too, but this is more or less collecting dust. I might wait and see what GT Sport does when it comes out. But in 2017 there won't be any GT Sport for me. But I wont buy a PS4 wheel.

F1 2017, FH3 and soon PC2 and FM7 all on the XBOX ONE is enough to keep me racing for a long while.

Talking of vs.

Is there a reserved place on this site for the crew? The second is coming out and while the first had some draw backs I'm hoping they were able to fix some issues. As a whole I liked the first one, even better than Forzas 3rd open world attempt. But I went to do some reading and didn't find anything on gtplanet.

I don't think there is, but I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem discussing it here. This can very much be general vs thread, but it's just that these are the three majors, in my opinion.

How is the driving in The Crew vs that in Forza Horizon 3? Because if the driving doesn't matter then it sounds like Grand Theft Auto V would be a more compelling open world sandbox with motor vehicles.

I still cruise around from time to time on gta5. Other players keep me off that game for the most part.

If only we could have;

a vast map like gta5 or crew

car lists like old gt and fm

customisation like NFS, nightclub, and extreme racing zero, juice.

physics like older fm

crashes like grid, pcars, and toca race driver.

Customer service/support like pcars.

All in one game.. I'm not asking much.. lol..

The driving isn't as good(was upgraded significantly in an update and it's still only okay), but I can drive literally for days without touching the same piece of road twice, so it kind of works out. The physics are enjoyable enough that I can kill an hour with a coast to coast road trip with a friend.

GTA 5 would be a lot more fun as a driving game if $3million supercars weren't restricted to what feels like 100mph.

The Crew is an arcade game. Driving/Physics are not comprehensibly like they are in any Forza Series game. It does also not have a good simulated tire model where you can see realistic temp / grip buildup. And setup changes do not affect them either because there is no car setup in The Crew.

For me arcade starts right behind Forza. So any title that does not have any of the mentioned things.

Forza Horizon 3 is pretty arcady, But not nearly as bad as The Crew. However, Dispite feeling far more arcady then Forza Horizon on a controller The Crew actually feels pretty good when using a wheel.

It is a watered down and much more arcady take on the Forza Physics. I have been playing more FM6 lately and I still play a lot of FH3, the two games do feel very different.

Then I think i´m unable to feel that much difference to put it in the arcade section... Or i´m not that critical... I mean i play all sims and also all Forza games and the cars in Horizon 3 feel believable/realistic to me...

I'm not sure how watered down it actually is. I know the suspension in Horizon is what I'm most impressed with.

There's something in video game physics, I am not sure what to call. It has to do with speed, input, direction change and car rotation. It may even be just visual/spatial.
Games can get this part correct and deliver a pretty realistic experience, without actually being realistic.
NFS underground series, and Horizon games are both fine examples of this. (Obviously Horizon is better, in 2017)

The only opposite game I can think of is Assetto Corsa. Where it is visually incorrect, but actually simulating driving much more.

I could be wrong, but I believe 90% or more of racers are more concerned with the visual aspects of physics being correct.

Some cars in AC feel really weird to me. Aventador as example. This thing has so much body movement and weight in AC that i feels like a tanker and that it only has springs no damper in the suspension ^^

Chase cam is nearly impossible to use, because everything is visually wrong. I like chase cam for unfamiliar race tracks.

In cockpit view, everything is much better, but still feels like suspension movement was exaggerated.
When coupled with dramatic thumps and bangs over bumps and rumble strips it's certainly an odd sensation.
It's like having an old Cadillac that slams into potholes like it's a race car.

Watching SlapTrains latest video remembered me to something that really pisses me off in Forza... Even The Crew 2 has the correct rims on the cars at the rear which i think we will never see in a Forza game. Forza always has the same rims on booth axles... I'm just about to call that laziness -.- Don´t understand how the models in Forza passes the Porsche approval... I know how critic they and Bentley are with cars and liverys because I´m a beta tester for a Sim since a couple years...

This used to be a big issue back with FM2/3, very noticeable on the Ferrari supercars. It was fixed eventually.

It's annoying to see when you notice it, but I'm positive most people don't. There's some other things I'd prefer they'd address first.

So I'm new to the site but I would to share part of my experience at gamescom this year with all three games. All my sessions were with wheel setups. For Forza I used what ever wheel was provided ( I believe it was a fanatic clubsport wheel base) for project cars 2 it's was the cxc simulations full system and gt sport was a thrustmaster T-GT. So first and foremost I was hammered for my opinion on a YouTube video comment but it this is mainly because of my experience with Forza 7s setup during the Ford challenge. First off I'm unsure if the wheels were setup correctly but starting off in the focus rs as I touched the brakes I knew something was off. There was literally no brake feel what so ever. A light tap wouldn't even remotely slow the car down. And eventually learned slamming on it wouldn't even lock up them up it was just all around odd feeling. Next was the actual wheel it's self. There wasn't any real ffb that I could feel. The wheel honestly felt weightless and loose for an unknown reason. Im sure that cant be what is going to presented in the full release but it struck me as odd that they even had this setup on the floor at all in that. All around I was genuinely disgusted with what was presented but by all means it was a beautiful game. I just couldnt figure out why it was like that. For gt sport I could actually feel the ffb though the wheel was a bit on the twitchy side when it came to strength but I could work with it. It felt great to me. In project cars 2 that was a beast of a setup I've never been a actual full motion simulation before like the cxc but bottom line it stole the show for me. I would love to try it on something like Asseto Corsa or iracing but I digress. 49k is too steep for my pocket books. All in all I really hope that was an outlier when it came to the Forza setup because I'm extremely disappointed at what happened. (Tried it twice)
