Amen.
I remember starting that disc in my Playstation. Seeing that intro. Watching the car flip and thinking, "oh, my Lord". How the cars looked in game play, for the time, may have been 16bit but, the game play was great. Cockpit view, with the screen tilt, going around fast corners at Knockhill in the rain. That is and was a "real" racing game.

It was very fun crashing early in the race (thanks to the damage, look it up PD) and driving my way to the lead as fast as I could, though most of the time I lost. Plus the large variety of events and disciplines made every one of them really special. NASCAR was my favorite in particular.

if you don't like standards, just ignore them.
That's not how it works. If there's a hair in your soup, the whole soup is spoiled. You don't tell someone: oh, just ignore the hair, the rest of the soup is good. It's the same with sub-standards. Actually, it's worse, because it's not just a hair in your soup, it's a whole furball.

You can't ignore them, because they're a structural part of the game and there is no way to take them out. And even if you could, you lose the majority of the car roster, so it's no longer the same game.

If I order a steak and fries, and the steak is past its due date, sure I can ignore it, but it's no longer steak and fries, is it? It's just 'fries'. With a rotten steak on the plate to make it worse.

Do we ever need standard cars in GT6 to complete the game career mode or play online ? I know someone here who only drives premium cars in GT6, and it doesn't seem to bother him or is it @danbojte ? :P

They still rub them on your face whether you like them or not. My "birthday gift" car was a standard, I remember because I nearly threw my ds3 onto my TV screen when I saw that.

It might not make sense to most people but for some reason I had had enough and it felt like an insult to me, hence why I still remember that. Anyway you guys are right there are ways to ignore and that is to actually play other games. If they ever get their s**t together I'll happily give GT another go though.

It's a choice really, I have no issue with standard in terms looking at them when playing, I drive them like I drive premium, I'm not fixated on the car graphics appearance but more on the car itself when driven :) Different people, different preference, different dislikes. I'm more annoyed on how the stock setup for most road cars in several racing games are made up / inaccurate  like rear engined RUF AWD with closer to 50% rear weight or crazy 0.60 rear toe in on all cars

This is from a guy who still play Top Gear 2 on SNES and love it even after decades of owning and playing it from time to time, so I can understand different generation of people who got pampered with awesome graphics like Driveclub, Forza and Pcars.

You're right my good friend, it doesn't bother me at all. ;) I'm happy with my choice - Premiums only.

As i've said many times it is about consistency, or lack of it. I'm also of an age where SNES and Megadrive were my first consoles and I can easily play them today, Super Metroid is my favourite game of all time. The graphics are fine to my eyes because they're consistent. Chuck the Samus sprite in a modern, top graphics game however and it will look ridiculous.

If i'm playing a game on PS3 or PS4 I expect it to look like one at all times, simple as that. If it doesn't, it's going to be jarring and off putting. That is before you get to the technical differences.

So, consistency rank at the top of your preference and priorities list ? I can see why someone would not want to play because standard cars, I can also see someone who would play even with standard cars.

I would not worried too much right now, GTS news is non existent and I think the new standard will be GT6 premium models and PS4 model is the new "super premium"

When it comes to graphics, yes. Games looking absolutely stunning is of course a bonus but I'm perfectly happy with mid-range games, only like I say, as long as they're pretty consistent and look good for their gen.

I'm not saying I wouldn't play games because of standards, clearly I played both GT5 and GT6, I was just explaining personally why I take issue with them visually and it's not because I need super shiny modern graphics and nothing else.

FWIW I don't think GTS will include standards either, GT7 is still up in the air but given it's probable release date I'm currently leaning towards not either.

I got spoiled by Gran Turismo graphics. GT1 through GT4 that is. When 67% of GT5 looked like GT4 I was upset though.

It's funny you say that. When I first played GT5, the graphics didn't spoil me. What spoiled my experience isntead was how awful the game was, same with GT6.

"Lack of priorities" they call it. IMO, the Standard vs Premium debate should be the least of PD's concerns if they want to make a good racing game, for a change. I feel like I'm playing the exact same game in GT6 than I did back when I first got my hands on GT2.

I would be hard pressed to compliment GT6 on anything that isn't related to graphics (expected for its time) and physics (likewise).

Yep, I've said this for a while but at it's core, GT6 is the same game as GT5,4,3,2 and 1. They've made a few tweaks here and there and added sub-features but there has been no major core changes to the gameplay formula at all. GT Sport is looking like it might just be the first game to do that, so our single player experience is not "Get car, do the most basic '0-400m, FF corning, FR cornering' licenses and then race at Sunday Cup in Autumn Ring Mini.

The graphics of GT1,2,3 & 4 spoiled me.
GT5 had 30% that looked as I expected/anticipated, 70% looked like GT4, which was incredibly disappointing.

I agree that GT needs a gameplay makeover, and graphics could take a small hit without sacrificing the game, but if all the cars were "standard", no gameplay in the world would have saved GT5.

Eh, I think GT5 would have been much, much more fun with a good career mode, huge grids (30-40 cars) and good AI. I couldn't even bring myself to drive a Premium car I liked since the game was so boring.

Good ol' herpes cars.

Can we flip the question and ask people to give their reasons why those old assets should be present in a 2016/17 game alongside so called premium cars despite creating problems with visual consistency and stuff?

I agree completely. I was enthralled in OLR though, despite it's headaches.
Shuffle racing made the best case for standards to exist, and that left for GT6.

Because "why not?"
Same answer is same.

I could spent an hour driving, just driving certain car in GT6 alone either online or in time trial, for me, it's not just racing with other cars or points table gameplay. I don't mind the standard are in gt6, I drive them, there's no need for a reason, I just enjoy the drive, that's all that matters to me.

This is my own experience and preference, others are different.

I could drive some of the standard cars like R31 GTSR or DR30 RS-X Turbo C ( FJ legend :P ) and forget about time :D Guess old nostalgia have it's way. ( would love to drive DR30 with physics like LFS in GT one day )

Not sure if many enjoyed gt5/6 this way, but I spent 90% of my time driving, just driving. Back in GT5, hybrid was the highest point of the game life, online cruising clubs sharing hybrid replicas, do highway battle, cops and robbers with AMS Alpha Omega or Devil Z

See the difference in detail.

With Sims like Project CARS, and Assetto Corsa on the PS4 market now, PD can put out a sub par sim if they dare, their monopoly of the only Console Sim on the PS4 days are over. I can't even look at or listen to GT6 premium cars anymore, I don't even miss it at all since my PS3 died, I know how to fix it with the paste on the chips, but I don't even feel the need to after Project CARS and Forza Motorsport 6. Seven New cars on both sims every month is fantastic, When PD is not even doing half of that, mostly concepts that most people don't even drive. I will admit PD's Premium cars are complete with front, side and rear interior, when most next Gen sims only have front and a quarter of the side and NO rear interior, So if PD up it's Offline AI, livery editor, and graphics, physical damage and make converting all Stndrd cars to Premium top priority it will be A Win, because and we know they are improving the engine audio. So my next purchase of GT just may be my last if these changes are not met, I love the GT online community it is the lifes blood of Gran Turismo, without it I would have got an XBOX years ago, but offline play is super weak, PD has to realize with every iteration of the Sim that the GT community driving skill is improving. So on pro level ingame AI should be able to come close to circuit lap records so we can still have aspiration to improve offline too. So until GT Sport and after it, I will be enjoying PCARS, Assetto Corsa, and Forza Motorsport 6.

Rolling standards over into next gen... From second gen games? Seems like a lazy way to get a "large" list of cars. How about pay the cars the respect they deserve and do a proper job of modeling a car, without 10 low res copy cats. Scrap all the standards, refresh the models and release them as dlc like everyone else.

Gran Turismo Sport and 7 should not have standard cars, because they are over 10 year old car models, and are not acceptable for a next gen racing sim game. If Polyphony can only produce 500-800 premium cars, so be it.

Honestly of it was even only 50-80 "premium" cars it wouldn't be an issue. They just need to stop using standards and a viable crutch. Should have never been done on GT6, definitely shouldn't happen in GT7/Sport. Standard shouldn't even be an option in the next gen games.

It really depends on the level of detail on the cars. Back in GT5 cars like the R390 GT1 Road Car were so pixelated I never used them for photoshoots. I do believe GT6 fixed up the LoD on some of the standards (including the R390 varients, the Mitsubishi FTO and such) But some of the cars I'd really like to use are still poor quality.
Sure it's nice to have a large variety of cars, "Over 1000" seems like you have a lot of choices but it's kinda pointless once you realise that there are 15 different variants of an R34 skyline, 20 of an MX5/Miata etc. Why don't PD just give out one edition of each car, and focus on the detail of those ones... I'm still looking for a GTO/3000GT or FTO that's premium, and I would much appreciate cars like the Toyota GT-One or BMW V12 LMR to not be like I'm looking at Japanese Hentai..
Quality over Quantity people!

Sorry for the poor GT4 pic I wasn't a good photographer back in 2006 xD

GT4 actually looks half decent quality but in GT6 it's a low quality car in a high quality world and they just look out of place

They lower the quality of the game, it would be incredibly dumb if they would make it to the PS4. Hello this is 2016 (or 2017 probably :P) we don't want to see 2001 PS2 models. And no I don't even want to see others drive them in my replay videos.

If you want quantity of cars go play Forza 6. If you want to play quality of cars with super handling/graphics/sound go play GTS. I really hope it will be that way. I rather have 50 awesome cars (in every aspect) than 500 half-arsed cars.

They're lacking in quality, handling, graphics, and sound, in comparison to what? A game that you have no idea what is, or isn't going to be happening within it? I'm just not understanding the comparison.

That's a massive assumption on your part – and that's ignoring that every FM6 car has a fully modelled interior, while nearly the whole 530+ lineup has underhood/engine compartments modelled too.

Although it brings up an interesting point: if GT loses the "quantity" title, that's one less USP it has in an increasingly-crowded genre.
