Force India VJM05

I swear that nose on the Force India entry looks like it could grab some drag. They're car looks very innovative, I hope they do better than the Williams design in 2011 did out of the box.

I think we hope that all cars this year do better than that thing called a williams did in '11.

So I guess this years crash test consist a giant cyclops that steps on the front nose? These are the results if you pass, McLaren was a super pass :sly:

*Looks at PSN name after remark*

The front is highly weird as if they photoshopped two cars together, I really like the mid to rear section but the front nose is worse than ferrari or Caterham. Also what is with the frong wing, it looks sort or like a jigsaw puzzle.

See look at the front wing, the plates coming down that connect it to the nose aren't completely in contact with the wing section. Only coming about half way unlike the other three released cars. I wonder how this will affect the structure and/or function of it.
To be honest this, in my opinion, is how a stepped nose should be done. Since the transition is smoother and more gradual for me personally, it doesn't look so bad. Or at least it didn't until I saw that whopping great camera hanging off the end. I agree with you about the front wing however. Looks like it'll fall off first time out!

Why? It's about the same as the 2011 williams

Good point, objection retracted. From the looks of it, it conforms to whatever maximum width canard winglets are limited to.

And those long struts seem interesting... perhaps serving the same purpose as the turning vane under the front end of the McLaren?

That I can't comment on since I didn't pay attention more so than just gawk at it because I love all McLaren F1 car circa 1980 onward. However, now that you mention it I see what you mean

Look at the struts to the center of the wing, the McLaren isn't as noticable at first glance and is almost like the past two years with out the hang off. The Force India though is a bigger step up, so does anyone have an idea why? Cause I don't.

Sahara has the laziest logo design ever

Yeah they did it on MS Word in a tea break!

Car looks pretty good, would have been cool if it was in that charity artwork livery a few pages back because it looks amazing.

I think the livery would look so much better without sahara, even the logo would. But it's a nice livery nonetheless. The profile looks pretty aggressive.

What's that logo on the rear wing endplate? Q-BIZ stationary? Looks a lot like it. Couldn't find it on Force India's website...

I can't believe how ugly the mallard cars look. The Ferrari especially.

The profile of that Force India looks as though the nose cone fell off and it was shoddily reattatched.

Still, if the teams get results out of it then it will be worth it.

The sidepod looks to be similar sculpting to the McLarens though the inlet projects further down. Interesting exhaust. I wonder if it's legal? Looks like the exhaust is blowing a winglet underneath the main wing.

Actually, I'd question the legality of that winglet

The so called "winglet" has been on the cars (on and off) for years:

What's the maximum size allowable under the rules? I wonder if any other teams are going to be running the same solution?

Love the livery, apart from the Sahara text.

Are Force India still in a technical tie-up with McLaren? You'd think the Woking boys would tell them they don't need a step up nose, otherwise Force India would actually have a nice car.

That brings me onto the first spy shot of the Red Bull design

The arrow points to the car, incase you missed the massive blue thing.

McLaren have traditionally had a low bulkhead/tub compared to the other cars so there was no need for them to use a stepped nose.

Quite like the livery on this year's FI, agree on the Sahara sponsor though.

For those of us interested in the Constructor's Championship, I'd say just about the most interesting news over the last 4 years has been the relentless march of Force India from back-marker (nee Spyker) right up to front of the mid-pack (and into Q3).

Whatever they are doing, it must be right; and it is difficult to criticize in the teeth of such impressive results.

I (bravely :D ) predict they will take yet another step toward the front in 2012!

Respectfully,
Steve

I agree, the car looks nice, Gary Anderson (a designer who works around the media now) said it was the most promising looking of the 4 cars to be released so far, and the best package from first impressions. He did work for Jordan in the past though...

Actually, I'd question the legality of that winglet and of the bare carbon fiber canard on the nose...

The carbon fibre on the nose is the camera mounting. Force India are not the first to do so. Williams and HRT did this last year with their cars. It might be of some aerodynamic advantage, but nothing that I think the FIA needs to stick their noses into.
