Even if the hards are not "safe"
Since everyone can change tires, they can say "Since you're using newer tires, the risk is low"

Commentators saying that Verstappen could still win if the race doesn't restart...
I don't have a lot of data to hand, but Verstappen crashed on lap 47, and the red flag was thrown when Perez was on lap 49. Red flag rules, to my knowledge, reverts the race order to the last completed lap before the lap of the red flag, so the result should be as it was at the end of lap 48 if they don't restart.

Edit: Red Bull asking Michael Masi for the Red Flag so everyone can change tyres, putting Perez at risk of not winning the race with the restart...

After all the chaos of qualifying, who'd have thought two random spots on the straight would be where the crashes and action happened?

Max was pushing hard on those tires....the same thing didn't happen to Lewis even though his tires were 2 laps older.

Yes importantly in this regard VER didn't pass the finish line in his crash.

Wasn't red thrown in 48? And isn't the rule 2 laps back, so end of 46?

Standing wise, it's a free win for Hamilton.

Hamilton only has a used set of hards.
Perez has a new set of Mediums

The medium tire will give Perez the advantage during the warm up and the restart(if restarted)

Max is lucky he didn't slide to the left. He would have crashed into pit entrance.

Not a good day for Pirelli.

Problem is that the tires still violently and unexpectedly failed well below the expected lifetime that Pirelli gave the teams, and a large portion of the field is either near, at or slightly above the 30 lap threshold.

If they're going to restart (which hopefully they will) all the teams will want to swap tires ASAP.

So what moron at Williams doesn't know what "stay out" means? Should fine the team severely too.
