Discussion

  • McLaren's new updates have given them a good chance of bouncing back on top, and their pit stops have improved, will this be a good weekend for them?
  • Can Alonso run away with the title?
  • Will Vettel be able to catch up to Alonso? Webber?
  • Will we see Lotus' new double DRS system in play this weekend, and can it bring them the qualifying results they need to match their strong race pace?
  • Mercedes seems to have a big tire wear issue, and in Hungary (which is notable for its' strain on the tires) will they fall back in the race?

Discuss.

As long as it's sunny during qualifying and the race, I think Mclaren will go good here. Maybe getting both cars on the podium.

I think Lotus will do good here. McLaren has had several problems with the tires this season, so I don't think they will be as good here as they used to be.

I have good faith in Raikkonen this weekend. In Q1 last weekend he showed he is definitely up there in dry weather conditions pace wise. Lotus will probably still **** up his race with a strange strategy choice though.

I see Alonso vs Vettel on this one. Red Bull is going to attack, they dont like whats going on right now seeing Alonso getting poles and wins like that. Mclaren maybe, if they can make their tires last longer, then maybe they have a chance. Ferrari has the car to beat right now and i only see one driver spoiling that win from them, it would be Vettel. He is hungry for a win.

Hungry in Hungary :dopey:

Honestly I have no idea who's gonna win on Hungary, Alonso, Button, Hamilton, Vettel, Webber, Raikkonen and Grosjean all have a chance to win, but for that they gonna need to have perfect support from the team also. No mistake, no KERS issue, no traffic in qualification and a good start.

Renault powered cars might have a slight advantage in here because of tyres degradation but really Pole position might be the most important.

Do I understand correctly that if Alonso finishes in the points it will be his 23:rd straight race doing so and a new record?

Edit: Turned out I was incorrect. Schumi holds this record with 24 consecutive points finishes so Alonso will have to finish in the top ten in the next two races to tie him.

Lotus have been talking themselves up all season, and they have consistently failed to deliver. I have no reason to believe that will change any time soon.

They had good dry pace in the last race. They were just crap when it was wet. I think they can do much better if qualifying and race conditions are dry. Their car also seems to favor hot conditions.

Lotus will be running the new double DRS in practice atleast and if not for qualifying. I think that is part of there strategy to qualifying further up the grid. The double DRS.

Under dry conditions, Kimi would've been much higher on the grid rather than 10th back in German GP. From 10th to 3rd isn't that bad. It's just a matter of time when we see a Lotus winning a GP, as soon as they quit failing their pitting strategies. (wee saw signs of improvement at Germany though)

Also, for some reason Lotus's first couple race laps seems to be quite a mess. It wasn't the first time that Kimi got higher at the start, but lost a place or few during upcoming few laps.

Grosjean in particular has had some terrible first laps.

Alonso, now in steamroller mode, will slice and butcher the field in Hungary. His composure under any and all conditions is approaching legendary status.

The Red Bulls are now somewhat crippled in their torque mapping under new TWG reg's.

I'm sincerely hoping the recent improvement in form of McLaren is for real. If it isn't, will Lewis bolt to Ferrari?

Respectfully submitted,
Steve

What happened in 2007?

Him and lewis were both at mclaren. Alonso was complaining that the team did not give him enough attention and that he was the number two driver and that they purposely messed up his strategy so lewis would win. Alonso needs to have a number 2 driver to support him and Lewis is too talented to do that sort of thing.

And so they fought and fought until the last round of the 2007 season.

The winner? Kimi Raikkonen. Alonso and Ham-slice both tied for 109 points.

Oh yea! And kimi had 110 right? I forgot how close that season was.

I agree, Alonso's confidence will be sky high (as if he needed a confidence boost) and he will be very hard to beat.
Button might be able to do something about him though, he's been quick here in the past and after last weekends result he and his team will be pretty confident too.
Plus Hamilton will be on a mission after his past two DNFs.
Also Webber will be desperate to keep in touch with Alonso in the championship.
Thirdly Vettel will want to redeem himself after his silly move on Button.
Then there is Raikkonen and Grosjean.....there are still a few people that could spoil the Spaniards parade.

I agree. I think the track suits red bull much more then the other teams because it is a very tight, high downforce track. And red bull need a win here. Look at the two venues coming up. Wide high speed tracks which I do not think they are going to be very successful in compared to the rest of the teams
