Formula 1 Gran Premio de España Santander 2012

Lotus and Redbull will be fighting for the win. Cant wait to see Raikkonen bavk on podium great driver and he knows very well how to get the job done.

Well I hope that it is gonna be closer than the race that was on the BBC red button where only Schumi, Alesi, Villenueve, Frentzen( i think), Hakkinen and Diniz finished the race. I think it was 96 or 97 and Schumi dominated after getting a Webber like start and losing about 5 places of the line. The rain was crazy as well.

As for this weekend I expect the usual suspects to be challenging and it could e interesting
That my friend, was indeed 1996! :) From what I remember Villeneuve spun out early on; although it may have been Hill. I'm almost certain one of the Williams cars were out of the race early on.

Kimi was on the podium in Bahrain, didn't you know? In fact he had a shot at the victory but had to settle for second in the end.

Wasn't there a race where Hakkinen's gearbox failed on the last lap? I think it was in 2000, must have been devastating for him.

That would be 2001! ;) It's odd however; when a car retires from a good position in the last lap or two, it usually seems to be a McLaren. Hakkinen in Spain all those years ago, Kimi in Europe 2005, Hamilton at Monza '09 and in Spain two seasons back. It's a complete coincidence I'm aware, but I find it rather odd.

Pretty sure it was 99 actually. His clutch failed.

If you're looking for Mika Hakkinen having a mechanical failure on the last lap of the Spanish Grand Prix, you're looking at 2001. He was leading the race, with quite a large gap to Schumacher, then just as the lap began, his hydraulics began to give out.

If I remember right Hakkinen was given a lift back to the pits by someone. I'm not sure but for some reason I'm thinking it was Frentzen.

That's not a McLaren exclusive. I call Hungary 2008.
- Massa leading
- 3 laps to go
- engine explodes

If that engine had lasted ... LH wouldn't have a single WDC to his name. And Massa would be a former WDC.

But as we all know, there are no IFs in motorsport. Sadly for Massa, now on the brink of a sad end to a brilliant career.

Whenever Hamilton does, it's usually because he's crashed it, rather than breaking down.

I didn't say it was exclusive to McLaren; just that it happens to them more than others. Or at least it seems. Like you however I feel bad for Massa (my Felipe/McLaren comment wasn't serious) although there's no doubt he's lost something since his accident. :(

Can't argue with you there; his accident at Monza back in 2009 was just clumsy. That's the reason why pushing that hard on the last lap or two isn't such a great idea; there's more to lose than gain.

"like I did last year with Sebastian ... in Monza ... "

"You just thought my car was slimmer though ..."

"Ah, you passed, you passed"

Funny video from Thursdays press conference.

Who the bejesus is that guy?

Edit: Just realised he's the Williams reserve driver :dopey:

Ah, Spain.

I have *no* idea why BBC is showing this live in the UK.

Its normally a pretty damn boring race as everyone tests at this track so everyone knows everyone else's limits. Which kinda leads to a relatively predictable race.

Unless the rains comes.

It'll be grand to see a race again, after so long without one!

I have *no* idea why BBC is showing this live in the UK.

Presumably because it fits their TV scheduling better as its less likely to be a race delayed from weather or major accidents.

Otherwise I would ask equally why the hell they aren't showing one of the most popular races - Canada.

At least they have the sense to show Monaco as it tends to get viewers simply due to its prestige. I have many friends and work colleagues who rarely ever watch F1 but will tune into Monaco just because its Monaco.

That's my favourite event on the calendar :(

Any news on what changes Ferrari made here?

I'm not sure on every change that Ferrari has made, but a significant adjustment to the car they have made is that they are running a new exhaust layout. They have also brought revised rear wing endplates to Spain.

A major turnaround is not on the cards for them, but it should be able to put them somewhere behind Mercedes.
