Red flag? Really?

Would that revert the start to the previous lap, putting Hamilton back in second?

Painful as that was, that was on Russel imo. Got a little to hot and tried a cheeky overtake on the wet grass.

Not for me. Maybe a racing incident but I'd lean toward Bottas as a area of fault. Can't just keep moving across especially in these conditions. He can't say he didn't see him coming.

Bad of Russell to react the way he did I think. he went up to Bottas whilst Bottas was still in the car and hit him on the helmut.

Russell is going to be in very serious trouble for whacking Bottas in the head after the crash...

I know feelings run high, but that is really beyond ridiculous, considering he wouldn't even know if Bottas was injured.

Bottas is in front, he doesn't have to do anything. Russell put himself there
That's the difference between the crash and not. Bottas doesn't/have/ to give the space. He doesn't need to be ignorant either. He has the inside line and can give space on lap 33 of 63.

I thought Russell walked over and tapped Bottas on the helmet as a way of saying, "You good"? I'll have to re-watch it.

Edit* Ohhh, I didn't even see Bottas flipping the bird. Makes more sense.

Well done TSN, thanks to your ad break, I missed Bottas' comments/reaction about the crash. :banghead:

Nature of the course (high-speed kink).
Nature of the conditions (slippery conditions).

Russell committed to an overtake that wasn't definitely on and wasn't definitely safe. I can't blame Bottas there.

Bottas does cause it, but I think by the rules he's not wrong

He doesn't keep a consistent line. I think Brundle is right in the Russel trusted Bottas to actually leave the space which he was already occupying and didn't. Like I say I think it'll be a racing incident in reality because of the conditions and stuff but I can understandbwhy Russel will be far more angry.

The view from the Alfa shows there's a bit of a movement from Bottas towards Russel as I type this as well.

Imola's "Isnt Straight" causing a massive crash isn't a surprise, that's basically like Alonso and Gutierrez in Australia, with the racing line naturally squeezing people. Bottas was as far left as he could at the point Russell went alongside, and a tiny move to the right was enough for Russell to touch the grass.

There wasn't really anything either could do there with the rain naturally shrinking the width of dry track. Thankfully both are OK.

Hmm. I can kinda see Russell's point there. He has a significant overspeed and has committed to the right side, and the track surface is still relatively low grip, so not conducive to rapid direction changes, and Bottas has committed to the left side and wanders across to the middle of the track during the overtake...

... but there's plenty of space for the pass. It looks like Russell has simply jumped too far right in reaction, and put a rear tyre on the cold, wet white line.

Edit: Yeah, that's not a tap on the lid because he's okay - and Bottas's gesture isn't entirely in the spirit of camaraderie...

Seeing the replay again, I think I can see what you mean. I still think Bottas gave enough overall room, but he did start to veer right as Russell was closing, which likely spooked Russell. That being said, Russell is also aware of the conditions, and I think he got a tad too hot even still. I'd say it was probably a racing incident, but we'll see what the stewards say. Not a good day to be in the Mercedes camp, though.

That being said, poor form from Russell to tap Bottas' helmet after the crash.

50/50. As Hulk said on German TV: Bottas let's himself "drift" over and makes Russell go wide. Russell get's on the wet and spins into Bottas and both are out. Space was there, but in those conditions you can argue if you need to force your opponent that wide.
