The Start Procedure will commence at 1.05 pm, formation lap at 2.05 pm.

Homer Simpson Thinking GIF

Pit lane will open in 30 mins, formation lap in 70 mins
Absolute joke that we have to wait that long. Yes, the track could probably do with another 10-20 mins of sweeping and draining, but it doesn't need a further 40.

This means the race will have 1hr 50 maximum from lights out. What was wrong with the 4 hour rule?

Even the 20 minutes between "start procedure" and opening the pit lane is silly. Why? The cars are in parc ferme, they just need to fire them up and then go. What do they need to do in those 20 minutes?

They were supposed to have updated and streamlined all these delay procedures, clearly they haven't.

There is literally no need to have already started the clock ticking when this is a night race. At this point they're just going out of their way to waste as much as time as possible.

I’m tuning into this race from another source - what is this nonsense? Lol - This is another Spa 2021?
No, the rain stopped some time ago and isn't forecast to come back. We could and should be racing in 10 minutes. They're just doing typical F1 things. We've got to have the full standing around on the grid, letting celebs in etc etc, apparantly. But of course we also had to have a 20 minute wait before that can even start.

Exactly as I predicted
As per above rain is supposed to stop before 1, so if it does, it's just going to be a matter of how quickly they can sweep away the standing water.

But we all know F1, they're totally going to sit and wait for an hour until it's inters ready.

F1TV Live is now giving a tour through the broadcast center, which is completely filled with signs saying "no filming or photography allowed"

Pretty cool to see though

Edit: and we have cars on track!

Edit2: and a Haas immediately blocks the pitlane

Already fine on inters, yet still we have to wait another 40 minutes.
Start will probably be on inters, but I think we'll be on slicks within a few laps.

It's still very wet off-line though

It would need just 4 hours delay since race start is at 8 pm.
Event timer is 3 hours in the event of a delayed start. 2 hours to get the race done. It's getting done Sunday regardless.

If that happens, what technically happens to Russell's penalty? Carried over to Suzuka?
Good question, not sure on the answer. Unless there's something specifically in the regulations covering a cancelled race then I imagine it won't carry over.

It's basically going to be 2017 again, they'll all start on inters with the track mildly wet then go to slicks about half way through.

Add the 3 hour time window to hold the race to the rules that are unnecessarily overcomplicated. Most here understand it, but I bet most casual fans are wondering what it all actually means.

The journalists at the track didn't know for sure, some tweeted/said the three hours started already. If they don't know, nobody else has much hope. Heck, it wasn't that many races ago even the teams didn't know the rules, with the grid penalties.

I just woke up and the race is still under delay for some reason. Are they waiting for drought conditions to be declared before they start?

"Is it dry enough for intermediates?" A pathetic way to start a Grand Prix every single time. It happens far too frequently.

I used to joke that the easiest, most fun job in F1 is being the guy wiping the visor at the pitstops but now I want the job of quality assurance of Pirelli rain tyres; never show up for work, nobody's ever going to checl.

Normal start procedure is just being done in full, and that takes one hour.

F1 needs to get those water vacuum trucks that NASCAR use so we dont get these annoying 1hour wait times.

That isn't even really why we were waiting. The problem is that they didn't even start the start procedure.

This is why top drivers starting further back is never that fun any more, everyone just leaves the door wide open because they aren't racing VER.

And Latifi squeeze Zhou into the wall. Another DNF for Zhou. :indiff:

Edit: DNF for Latifi as well.
