Even the driver of the record holding Zonda R admitted that he could be up to 8 seconds faster. So he didn't drive the car on its limit. That would be a awesome time of 6:39 .

Sadly I can't read German yet heh. 6:39 would be a crazy lap to watch. I just wish we had the onboard footage of Bellof doing a 6:11 back in the 83. It's crazy to think about how that record is still standing nearly 30yrs later. To break the record you will need 3 things. A P car with a very talented driver who also has a giant set of balls and is willing to put his life on the line. These attributes are not as common these days. This is why the Moto GP riders wont take part in the Isle of Man TT, because it's not worth the risk for them.

I know you don't read german, but i will still post this as some evidence. Heidfeld did a inofficial run of watch stopped 5:58 in his F1 BMW 4 years ago. The first F1 car to drive on the ring since 31 years! But they didn't make it official out of respect to Bellof. I too think that this record should be his forever. Even Heidfeld admitted, that there is nothing better than driving a F1 car on Nordschleife. He called it the Highlight of his career. Well it's possible to do that in GT5.

This is actually incorrect. The 5:58 figure was what they estimate he could have run, but he never did. I actually personally spoke to him about this and he was pissed off that they wouldn't let him do a "real" lap. They only let him do a parade lap, he went quick in a few spots but had to keep slowing down for camera crews etc. They forgot Bellof's fastest lap was 6:11, 6:25 was in the race.

What people did was take his speed in a few sections and then used that to estimate a full lap time, which as we all know is not accurate.

Thanks for the correction then! Seems to have been just some rumor. And what about what he said about the run being the highlight of his career? Did they lie about this also? :)

No he was ecstatic about it. "Best track in the world by far, I love it so much". I was at a charity golf game with him (father was his team mate for the day) before the F1 race at Indy, and happened to be wearing my Ring hat. He saw it and his face lit up as he talked about how awesome that day was.

I also forgot to mention, he did get a clean lap in without having to wait for camera crews. But he didn't go full out, they had him hold back the full potential. There is no doubt in my mind he could have destroyed Bellofs time with ease in that car.

Thanks for the information! Really interesting. 👍

Love the elevationchanges and that you actually see that its going down or up. In GT you see that in replays but cant see it when driving (some parts you see but here you really see how steep some parts are), feel only. Bravo Forza for that. But other parts of the track are just wrong and then there are parts i just cant belive its a game. And the some parts they had bumps you havent seen in GT5..which is right which is wrong on those i dont know.
The sound is on the other hand GREEEEAT, id buy this game just for that..i need to buy a xbox...luckily my boy wants one for his birthday so i guess i have to give him one :)

BTW...just seeing the flames from the exhaust when changing gears gave me goosebumps. Ill love GT5 Nurburg, and hopefully Spa will be as good...but if not then Forza here i come!!!!!

I can't wait to try out Spa and give my opinion on accuracy. Really awesome track, though they won't be able to capture how crazy it is to go downhill into Eau Rouge.

I noticed one thing that is very different between the GT5 version of Nur, and Forza's rendition, the track on Forza is alot wider than it's real life counter part, and the elevation changes are not quite as accurate as GT5's.
IMO GT5 has more accurate mapping of real life tracks which becomes apparrent when using the same car as someone has utilized in RL to post a lap then trying to do the same in both forza and GT, you can get within 1 second ish of the RL: time on GT with some practice, however on Fora on tracks like Nur you will not get close

Oh really? I already know of people that have been able to reproduce times on the Ring in Forza to match the real life time.

Here is a guy who was able to be within 9 seconds, but no doubt you can see he can improve due to his poor run on the straight aways and poor cornering in some areas.

FM3 ZR1 Lap time 7:35

Real Life ZR1 Lap time 7:26

I was most perplexed by the fact that there is not a single career event in the game that involves the whole of the Nordschleife track. There are several with events with sections A-D, but what I'd really enjoy is to be able to track in its whole without interruption.

I know you could get around this in the rivals mode or other challenges, but to be able to enjoy a career event for the track it offers offers an unique type of enjoyment.

The track is too long and too wide, because of this the times mean nothing. A lot of the difficult corners were widened to allow for passing, but it also made the track easier to drive and faster. It's a dumbed down version.

I've driven the real thing, have you..........how should I put this..... ^^ FAIL

 I agree with you forget the turns or the width the bumps and the elevation changes are not that good either. It's all good though maybe one day T10 will go back and get it right. 👍

More food for thought, and another nail in the coffin.

Compare this with the F3/RL ZR1 video. Look at the speed in each corner between the three. Notice a pattern? In all of the corners that have been widened or simplified, the F3 ZR1 is 15-20mph faster than the one IRL. What about the GT5 ZR1? It's within 5mph or less on every corner, sometimes within 2mph. This slight bump in speed can be attributed there being no risk of death and results in a faster lap time. 2mph faster in every corner over the course of the Ring adds up quick.

It's in KPH so you will need google in a different tab to do the conversion.

Sweet dude. I am proud of you.

Yup, and hopefully one day GT5 fixes theirs as well. We can all hope at least!

It strange how the forza lap is 9 seconds off, but looking at apex speeds and speeds on the faster sections, the forza car is allot faster but ends up being 9 seconds behind, weird?

Sweet dude. I am proud of you.

So instead of just admitting your wrong you turn to sarcasm. Bottom line is, if you haven't driven the real track, you don't have a say in the matter.

Yup, and hopefully one day GT5 fixes theirs as well. We can all hope at least!

The difference is GT5's is 99% there while Forza's is 70%. Not much to fix with GT5's.

That's because the track is A) Too long and B) a lot of corners are wider/easier to allow for much higher speeds (as high as 30mph faster). The track is TWO miles too long. T10 openly admitted that they did this to make online races more "fun".

I don't like the look of the ring in forza. The fun for me having the Ring in a game is to have the chance at matching real life times. I kinda doubt the T10 reasons behind changing the track, maybe they did not have the time or skill to model it closer to reality. Why would T10 rape the ring like that, its not the Ring IMO if it is deliberatley modelled incorrectly for the sake of online play.

Maybe T10's new GT5 beating phyics would not show up realistic times at a close to correct a possble Nurburgring. Maybe its also why GT5 did not give us standing start at TGTT?

I am not wrong about anything. What is your problem?

You said my comment regarding Forza's Ring being too long and too wide was "Fail". I have proven you wrong that this is 100% FACT. The track is 2 miles too long, this isn't up for debate, it is a FACT. Multiple corners are twice as wide, or wrong, this is a FACT, just go watch any real video to see it for yourself. I don't have a problem, I'm just pointing out the failure of your post. It's annoying when someone tries to talk about something they don't know.

Opinion noted.

It's not a opinion. Your view of the Ring is limited to video/games, mine is of the real thing. I've driven the real thing which means I know what the actual track is like from 1st hand experience and you don't. It's not a difficult concept.

Opinion noted.

This one is a opinion. But being that I've driven it and you haven't, my "opinion" holds more weight. But the inaccuracy of Forza's Ring is not a opinion.

Can someone compare the Nordschleife from both games to the real one with actual photos?

We posted three videos of onboard laps for F3, GT5 and RL. GT5 and RL were identical while F3 had many mistakes. The speeds in corners were identical between GT5 and RL while Forza's on average were 15-20mph faster and as high as 30mph faster.

It almost the same track as in Forza 3 and it doesn't look like the real one. Also the lap time of the Zonda R is over 8 Minutes! That is just so wrong!!! The real car did it in 6:47 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9UgapG5kGcc Even if you add some time for the standing start, the time is totally off.

So you add more than a minute for a standing start? I never got any realistic Nürburgring laptimes in Forza 3 and this is just gonna continue?

you do realize that time was done by a pro driver in real life........not a guy in his living room

After watching the Forza 4 video again I realized something. It's WORSE than the Ring in Forza 3. They took dumbing it down to a new level.

So have I, the difference is I don't use it to then insult other members and given the AUP here at GT Planet you should think twice about doing so in the future as well.

Now while the FM2 version of the 'ring is far, far too wide the version in FM3 is not as bad as many make it out to be, and quite frankly the version in GT5 still has some serious issues with it and is quite a way from being 99% accurate.

I would also question the members here who are saying that GT's version gets the elevation changes right, because it most certainly doesn't. In reality parts of the 'ring look like a wall of tarmac is in front of you and nothing in GT's version comes close to that.

The bottom line is that both inaccurate and accurate lap times can be obtained in both FM and GT, neither get it right with FM's being too wide in sections (which was far worse in FM2 and a lot better in FM3) and GT's messing up the elevation changes (which again improved between GT4 and GT5).

Interesting, you appear to insist that only those who have experience of the real 'ring and its in game versions can comment on how accurate it is in games (and dismiss the opinions of those who have 'only' watched videos of the real thing. However here you seem to throw you normal standards aside and damn FM4s 'ring without having played it and without providing source material to back up your claim.

All you are offering here is inflammatory flame-bait and GT Planet has no time for this kind of behaviour or members who post it, as such I would strongly suggest that you provide some detail and evidence to back it up, and be willing to discuss it in a level-headed manner.

T10 didn't do anything initially to the 'ring. They got the assets for the 'ring in FM2 from the dev team behind PGR (after MS bought them) and used that with minor tweaks in FM2, which is why the 'ring in FM2 is quite nasty. However those assets underwent some serious work between FM2 and FM3, and the version in FM3 is much better (still not good enough - but no in-game version is and certainly none of them are the 99% that has been claimed). I can't yet state what the version in FM4 is like as I am still waiting on my copy of FM4, but once it arrives and I have some time on it I will be more than happy to post my (good or bad) opinion of it.

@ALL The bottom line here is that if you can't discuss this like grown-ups you will loose the ability to discuss it (and that doesn't mean the thread gets locked - so think about that carefully). Everyone has an opinion to bring to the discussion, those who have been to the 'ring obviously can offer a first hand view, however that doesn't mean they get to dismiss the opinions of others and to do so seriously risks action from the staff.

And what is the problem about that? In a game a player should be able to match times done by a pro driver with some practice. It's just a game so I have lots of experience from trial and error by crashing thousands of times. Anyway in GT5 i can achieve satisfactory results from my point of view. In Forza 3 i couldn't even with trying out lots of cars in stock form. I was always about half an minute too slow.
