Omg Multi-class races in singeplayer?!

HELL-YES

This is awesome!

Most fun I've had in singleplayer in a loooong time.

Got the game this morning, Level 12 now! (GMT+8 suckers) :P

The physics is really really natural, so easy to provoke lift off oversteer on the hatchbacks....even at extreme slip angles you still feel the tire working instead of a feeling of emptyness in FM3. grip level of basic tires are now correct, still have a lot to discover but so far it does stand up to the test!

AI still as slow as before though :P
 
You guys know the pre order bonus cars? Not the store specific or LCE ones. The ones called "ship bonus."

Will I get those from my Newegg pre order? I assume the code will be included inside the game itself's packaging, but I'd love a confirmation.

Pretty every single Forza game uses an LoD system.

I don't think you know what it means. Basically, the further away a car is, the lower the poly counts, reflection and texture resolutions etc are.

In FM3, the basic LoD of non player cars was woeful, it seems fixed in FM4.

You seem to be confusing things.

Every game uses a LoD system, for models AND for textures (ever wondered what mipmapping is all about ?)

But FM3 "inrace" models (which are subject to LoD when viewed from afar, well, technically most likely from a space occupation on screen but whatever) are not a "lower LoD" of the menu models. They are specially built to be used "inrace" instead of the "menu models". And yes, I'm aware automatically built LoD are often manually tweaked because automatic polycount reduction can screw things up pretty easily.

Turn10 builds two models for each car, one for the menu (~400k poly), and one for the race (~50k poly). You could also count the cockpit model but it's basically a ripoff of the menu model.

These are not what are typically called LoD (level of detail) in the industry.

And yes, it seems to me from looking at the demo (and quite a few videos) that "inrace" models have been tweaked, especially around the headlights. FM4 "inrace" model look way better than the FM3 ones. And it's not just good ol' IBL magic, most likely they tweaked the car models (while retaining a relatively low polycount).

No one else get this canned E-mail then? If you live in the UK and get an E-mail saying your FM4 has been shipped (Any pre order at any shop) it doesn't actually mean it has been shipped. It means it's been paid for, picked and is sat waiting delivery for launch day. They will not deliver it Wednesday or any other dream fantasy dates you can think of. 👍



Mine has been upgraded to shipped so I know it should be here launch day WOOP!

I got that email a few days ago from GAME UK (same company as gamestation as far as i'm aware !)

My LCE is still sitting at unshipped - i'll be extremely happy to have it on thurs but as long as it comes on release day thats all i'm hoping for ! Do not want to be sitting on friday night without my copy !

Bestbuy sent me a code for the BMW by e-mail last night, if that's what your asking. Odd, given they cancelled by e-mail last week, and the pre-order officially cancelled on my order tracking page about an hour after they sent me a code. Not that I'm going to complain.
For people asking about launch bonus: Don't know for sure, but the impression I got was that a code was included in the package for the first production run only. I have no idea how many batches they've stamped, but in theory, if all the pre-ordered LCE copies shipped to stores by release day are to be considered "in the first production run", then all who pre-ordered it should get the bonus.

Turn 10's FM4 site lists it in an article about the LCE, but it's worded this way:

I'm going to look a bit more, because that doesn't say "LCE exclusive" to me.

Glad to hear that, and I appreciate your help. I was googling this stuff myself and didn't really get anywhere. I just hope newegg has the codes included.

My fingers are now crossed by the way. Haha.

I'm hoping that simply buying the game today will have the Launch Bonus cars as well, seeing as I could not pre-order an LCE copy...

(Target never processed the pre-order :grumpy:)

Looking foward to that multi-class racing though.

And yeah, the Agera is pretty much the main reason I pre-ordered. The others are nice but I wouldn't have cared as much had it not been for the Agera.

If not we will be charging your card early. You will get a message saying it's being delivered.
Actually we are sitting on it till release day.

We will activate tracking on the eve of release.

Did you not get something similar?

With FM3, they also had a "ship bonus" thing with a card included in the package that was supposedly just in the first few batches of games. I'd assume its the same for FM4.

I'm sitting here at work, going to pick the game up on my lunch hour and stare at the pretty box and stuff...At least I'm off from my other work today.

I used the leaderboard as an example of how global this game is.

I know lots of games are global nowadays.

Guess what I'm trying to say is I'm jealous.
There I've said it.

I want to Play today. Im. Away all weekend so I'm not going to get much time with it till next Monday. Unless game can get it to me early.

What time were you on? I jumped on at our "normal" time and nobody was around so I fired up the FM4 demo for another fix of crack. I mean RIVALS mode.
