Looking forward to this, and especially keen to see if they give us PC players a full Forza release later on. The only thing I don't like is that it's being released on the Microsoft store  but whatever.

I'm willing to pop in a new SSD into my spare Xeon box and just run win10 and forza apex.

May as well give it a shot if its free.

Okay, so "slimmed down" and no wheel support. What's the point then? I guess this means I'll be blowing $400 on a G920 then.

I think the idea here is to show that MS cares about PC gaming. If a "slimmed down" version of an exclusive title is enough to go by, that is.

It doesnt have wheel support right now. Wheel support is coming. The framework doesnt support SLI either but that too is coming.

Its not for the enthusiast Xbox One owner who has all the Forza games. Its for casuals and people not already committed the franchise.

It makes no sense for Microsoft to cannabalise Xbox owners to make them Windows store customers.

So your solution is to wall off the newcomers? I dont have XBone but i wanted to support Turn 10 for what they have doing with Forza. And for what it worth, its Microsoft and Turn 10 decision at the end and they know what they doing.

Makes no sense? Windows 10 and XBone owned by same company. And tbh Xbox One early policy cannibalize XBone more.

Didn't someone at Microsoft specifically say that Apex wouldn't get DLC? Or atleast, DLC content.

Well, according to their official forums FAQ of the game, they said that there may be DLC.

Will Apex be adding cars or tracks as DLC after release?
"Apex will not feature Forza Motorsport 6’s $20 VIP membership. " and "Turn 10 declined to comment on the potential for paid Apex expansions of add-ons in the future."

Microtransactions
"Forza Motorsport 6: Apex on Windows 10 is free-to-play with optional microtransactions, but Design Director Andy Beaudoin told IGN that it’s “been built from the beginning, all the way to the end, not to be a microtransaction driven game.”"

  • DLC plans: no VIP, packs/expansions unknown

I updated the OP, it now has the gameplay footage and some screenshots of Apex. Looks real good so far, I'm starting to think of getting a good gaming PC with Windows 10 now :)

Then again, it is free as opposed to buying a $60 game and a $400 wheel.

For some, especially those who already have a decent gaming PC and maybe not an Xbox, that would be enough reason to pick it up and have a go. Maybe they like it and get into it further, maybe they don't. Maybe they just enjoy a free racing game.

I sure seem to recall enjoying early Gran Turismos with a controller. If I'm not paying for it, I'm sure I could do the same here.

Again people here dont see the revenue angle.

For Xbox, you need the console ($400) plus the game ($60) and you may get Live and VIP and the car pass all up totalling more than the game is worth.

For PC, you need a PC which Microsoft gets nothing besides the Win10 o/s which you may have gotten for free or bundled with a PC and the game is free.

We obviously have no idea what their microtransactions are but OBVIOUSLY its a gamble compared to what is already in their pocket with the XBox.

So why would the content be comparable. Microsoft is not a charity. The solution is to treat Windows 10 users as 2nd class citizens. Did you guys pay $500+ to Microsoft already? You have with the Xbox.

The irony is the Phil Spencer said Xbox One owners should feel like they're '1st class citizens' which doesnt truly represent the Xbox One ownership experience. Hyperbole. Again, this is Microsoft's 2nd go at the Games for Windows 'games as a service' thing. I dont see them deviating too much from their past strategies.

Well here is a link to their current strategy: http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/03...and-xbox-one-development-directx-12-and-more/

Microsoft at least has a working plan that would support backwards and forwards compatibility. So existing XB1 units don't miss out on new games or features, just graphical upgrades.

The stores will merge and Xbox is no longer relegated to mean just the console. It also means gaming on Windows 10. Think of Apex as the "ultra" 4K version of Forza, and the Xbox One version as the "High" version in terms of graphics settings.

So you wanted to bring Don Mattrick back and making XBone even worse?

Is English not your first language? Do you go thru life putting your words in other people's mouths? Who is Don Mattrick?
Calm down. I just give you a question. And no, english isnt my first language but i try my very best.

Don Mattrick is the previous XBox head who infamous for making XBox focus on other than gaming (Kinect, TV, etc), limiting XBone processor reserved for kinect, and making XBone cannot function with Kinect off. He also got infamous pre-release for forbidding disc sharing, used game sales, and forbid playing offline without internet connection (always online), all of them were turned down but give taste to customer so bad, the initial sales were terrible compared to the PS4.

Also reminded you the infamous Don Mattrick quotes (Play offline? Buy X360), the price which is $100+ more than PS4, and availability far limited than PS4 counterparts. In addition, Sony laughed at their pre-release used game policy with the quickly viral PS4 E3 commercial.

Phil Spencer might not be perfect, but he does give XBone a second chance to customer. Lowering Kinect focus and switching into the real games, making XBone function and also sell without kinect, freeing the processor chunk previously used by Kinect, much bearable UI, backwards compatibility (!), constant updates and support, communication with customers, and lots more that improve. Result? XBone sales nowadays almost equally matches the PS4.

I know that bringing XBone games to PC is quite a controversial move to gamers (and XBone owners especially) and i aknowledge that (Why MS Store exclusive, why do it in the first place, etc). But at the end, Phil, the team, and Microsoft know what they doing. Its their strategy at the end. Maybe luring PC owners to get full experience on XBone (hence the Microtransaction version rather than full)? Only those three knows. Not to mention that Microsoft owns both W10 and XBox and the fact that PC with comparable spec to XBone is far more expensive than the XBone itself.

Just a thought.

Of course I know who Don Mattrick, famous destroyer of companies. I just find it funny how so many people are optimisitc about Microsoft's 'free' stuff. Since when does Microsoft give you free stuff out of the kindness of their hearts. Windows 10 is a perfect example.

I'd love to be wildly optimistic but geez, look at the past record. If its slight above mediocre you'd be surprised.

Sorry I cant stand people who make silly statements and assume that you know "this person" and you want to return to "this situastion" as if 1+1 = 2.

I cant understand how anyone would think that Don Mattrick is a positive influence on any company he touches, nor would anyone thing the 2013 DRM intro was a good thing so to jump to that isnt even hyperbole, its just dumb. Sorry if I think people who do that are dumb.

So you would build a gaming PC just for Forza? I'm fairly sure they are releasing it on PC to give PC gamers a chance to play the game, instead of forcing us to buy a console. If you had a gaming PC I promise you won't spend much time playing Forza as there are far better racing games on PC ;)

Not if you want a racing game structured like a Gran Turismo title and with something containing any measure of approachability, at which point there hasn't been one in over 15 years (or maybe ten, but still). I have a gaming PC and I very deliberately have ignored every one of the "Gran Turismo killer" racing games hyped beyond critical mass on this forum over the past few years because frankly I couldn't care less about any of them. The "far better racing games on PC" that I actually give a crap about and can actually get to work extend to Porsche Unleashed and Test Drive Unlimited.

I would buy a ported Forza so fast and would play probably nothing else until I blew out my aging DFGT.
