I know it's far too early to get a real solid impression of how they want people to approach the game from this point in the preview, but from the way Chris and Dan introduced it, it feels like their goal is shifting deliberately towards Forza as a game that places a lot of importance on technique -- pushing players to get a feel for the car and what it does before dumping a bunch of upgrades in it, and teaching casuals the ins and outs of actual apex-hitting, braking-point-learning, opponent-navigating skills. If they prioritize that over a big fun do-whatever sandbox career it'll probably upset some people, but it also seems like one of the big breaks Forza needs to make is the idea that it's a game you can get good at through brute forcing a swap-heavy build that drains the car's character just so you can beat rabbit-chase AI. If this is how they plan on going about it, it could be a move in the right direction.

EDIT: yeah, I'm really liking this whole Car XP concept if it works as intended: you want to drop another 200hp into this Civic? You better learn to drive it stock first without punting everyone off the track and spending half your time in the dirt.

Graphics modes for those interested

XSX
  • No RT at 4K 60FPS
  • RT at dynamic res 60FPS
  • RT at 4K at 30FPS

XSS
  • No RT at dynamic res 60FPS
  • (Presumably since they don't say) fixed 1440p at 30FPS, no RT
Personally not interested at all in 4k, I really wish there was a 1080p RT 60fps option if it was possible.

Typical Forza driver in a Practise session, lunging up the inside to wipe people out 😂

Ooo, I like that there is another Ribbon for this Grand Oak!

Are these AI drivers first time track day racers, I'm assuming?

Observations:

  • Cars look far, far more planted than they ever have. Not as oversteer prone as previous games.
  • E-brake slides look exceptionally more easy to catch and control
  • Everything sounds meatier

We've known all of these for months but to see it all, uninterrupted, no background commentary, you can bathe in it. I'm more excited for the game than I have been prior. Do I still have nitpicks? Of course I do, we all do. :P

Clean shaven Dan just feels wrong.
He always shaved his beard once a game is done.

I always felt bad for him after gameshows he always looked beat to hell after giving all those pr presentations. Definitely a passionate guy.

It’s all looking good. It’s sounding very good.

I don’t look too much into these early presentations, trying to show off various things and cars whilst also asking someone who can’t drive to do the driving. I’ll try and steer clear of the gameplay personally so I can experience it myself.

Does he? I've been here since the beginning and I never noticed that.

I also like that it appears that collisions automatically make the segment score 1, which slows car level progression. It’s a good way to incentivize clean driving without unfairly punishing honest mistakes in my opinion, and it alleviates some of the concerns I had with the system.
