I'm staggered there's people comparing this to GTAV. But that's their business.

I actually enjoyed the short presentation, there was a lot to get excited about personally. Did they go on about visuals a bit too much? Maybe, but it's quite a big factor for a game to discuss its visual fidelity, especially when people are so critical of games that lack it. Audio is also very important for a racing game ao I'm glad they've really honed in on that and shown us some depth.

I imagine it was a very deliberately curated piece so that the deep dive today still gets some good viewership and I have no doubt we will learn a lot more from today. Also Geoff Keighly posted on Twitter than it will launch before the end of June. So I imagine we'll get a release date imminently.

Look at how shadow behaves here, yes they are on the same level, a kid can tell you that.

And what's going on with this entire area, I mean I'll have to go lower than GTA V for similar graphics

Dude, there is no reason to compare it to GTA 5,i find the Forza model lacking but comparing it to GTA you're just inviting toxic discussion.

The reason I compare it to GTA V is that I genuinely find they look similar visually, espcially how over exposed lighted areas look and how undefined shadowed areas look on car bodies.

and I went through to trouble to download GTA V again to take those screenshots.

If you disagree with me, I encourage you to debunk the visaul evidence I've provided instead of just shutting people up.

P.S. It's not even a model problem, it's a game engine problem, like where are all the windshields on many cars?

This Porsche 911 GT2 RS is missing all windows and air intake meshes. Am I wrong for not satisfied and making resonable comparisons?

This is honestly laughable. Don't compare Forza to GTA.

500 cars is way less than FM7 launched with (700), if anything it is closer to FM6 at 460. Then you factor that many of these 500 cars are brand new to the series, like modern GT cars and whatnot, which means that several cars we're used to seeing on older games just won't make it, for no good reason, since it is pretty evident that they are re-using model from older games. Why can't this launch with 800, 900, 1000?
It's a rhetorical question, the answer is because they gotta hold back old content to be reintroduced later through live service/limited time to keep the game alive for however many years they need it to be, like a certain open world racer from the same publisher.

I'm very interested in their multiplayer mode, wondering if it will go iRacing style like GT and what they will do to be better than sport mode
Probably demolition derby, not only judging by previous installments, but also by the sheer amount of damage footage in the trailer :)

Why not? He's not comparing them gameplay-wise, just showing off how outdated the 360-era cars look like in the "made from the ground up" forza 8. Neither new paint shader or RT is going to make them have more polygons, accurate proportions and better, more complicated and realistic materials.

I'm acutally not picking on the car models. I'm trying to show that in SOME CASES this "brand new ray traced forza tech engine" is making some very basic looking in-game rendering of cars that's pretty close to or even worse than GTA V quality...

You really think the game will ship with the Porsche model missing windows? It's a glitch in the trailer. We can judge the outdated models but visual glitches are normal in a game that is months away from release.Let's complain but let's also be fair.

Actually they gave the answer at the first reveal. I recall them talking about how it would be more focused which, to me implies smaller. There's a lot of stuff that doesn't really need to be carried over from the Horizon series, especially if they are going for a more motorsport flavour which, so far, looks exactly like what they're doing. I also wouldn't expect old content as DLC, maybe they'll do free car updates and stuff like the did with FM5 and FM6, but I'd expect paid stuff to be all new.

Game like pCars 2, Automobilista 2, iRacing, rFactor 2 etc, show you don't need 1000 cars to deliver a top notch racing sim, but if you deliver a carefully curated list focusing on creating good racing classes rather than odd bits here and there that don't really fit anywhere, you can create a really good, well rounded experience.

I think the windows on my car suddenly vanished too.

If I've learned anything from the trailers for this it's that they really need to work on the visuals for the head/tail lights on older cars. They've long been an area of Forza that falls short of other games and featuring them among much better looking cars in the footage really shows up how poor they are.

I'll play this on Game Pass for sure but I wish developers in general would stop banging on about raytracing.

How dare they show off the new damage system and sounds.
I wish I had your optimism. Adding a few more scratches and calling it a "brand new system built from the ground up".

Its just marketting buzzwords. The car isnt falling to bits like BeamNG, its nothing new.

Trailer looks good. A little disappointed there is no release date. I think it will be September like their normal release window.

20 locations is not that much. Hopefully they will expand on that.

It's the same thing I felt with FH5, having released with quite the same number of cars (also at "over 500"). It will be hard to balance the "road to racing" ratio of cars given that the game will likely have a larger number of race cars and track focused vehicles. (FACT: the average number of cars featured in a Forza game is also at "over 500", which is the barest minimum).

Eventually the car list of FM8 will grow into exponential numbers over time (who knows if it will exceed the 786 cars of FM7), especially if they'll give this a ton of support for years to come. Apparently this will also mean recycling older cars for those who want them back, other than introducing new ones. In a Forza Monthly I remember hearing Chris Esaki saying that there are tools and methods that allow cars and tracks to be built and produced at a certain quality at a faster rate.

It's also likely that SUV's, 4x4's, pickup trucks, offroad racers and rally cars may not be included at launch, and that there isn't any evidence of rally and offroad racing, which Motorsport really needs. It's another avenue of Motorsport they haven't explored, and plus Horizon portrays this in an arcade-like fashion.

As for tracks, having mentioned that there will be "over 20 tracks", I seriously hope Le Mans and the Nürburgring Nordschleife don't get removed. If they do, it would be a massive let-down, and they shouldn't keep us waiting too long. It's also a consequence of having to rebuild all these tracks as well.

In that case, I hope they do a system similar to GT Sport and GT7 where content gets continuously added for free through game updates instead of the traditional car packs, where they can release cars at a larger and more variable volume per update, as with tracks when they're ready.

Has there been any news yet of how many cars can be in a race? If it will just be max. 18 or 20 cars that'll be hugely disappointing.

FM6 and FM7 had up to 24 cars on track, so I'm guessing FM8 will not be any different.
