FH4 was my favourite (maybe biased because I am a UK citizen) but I loved how the Seasons actually made a difference to the world, and the gameplay - like how bonus boards were inaccessible unless the lake was frozen over.

Unlike FH5 which looked the same every time you booted the game up.
I did enjoy FH4, but I so wish the roads were more like British B roads, with narrow lanes and tall hedges following the edge of the road instead of open plains like PG love to put in their games, the sense of speed is SO good on B roads because of the narrow nature and having hedges/buildings right near the edge of the road. Unless you go to Scotland/Wales the majority of roads have hedges/trees or buildings lining the roads as its such a densely populated Island. Maybe I'm biased because I live in the south but I felt the UK was just too...open for it to be as fun as i'd hoped.

Wide roads has always been an issue in FH but I think it stood out more so in FH4 just because the UK has especially narrow roads

That would be brilliant.

Driving around a fictional Cornwall area, I would have loved some single track roads too, so when you come head to head with a tractor you have to cautiously back up round a blind corner for 5 minutes so they can pass, while the AI traffic behind you beep incessantly. Realism would be off the charts

The idea of the game being dead on Steam might matter if it wasn't cross-platform. The player base of the game is not limited to only the people playing the game on Steam. As you can play with everyone on windows store on PC and on Xbox. As it is, it's not hard to find matching making lobbies or looking for group track day lobbies.

I'm not sure that was the issue that was being brought up, it's just that it's lagging behind both FH5 and FH4, with the latter being disappointing.

When I heard FH4 was set in the UK that's the image I had in my head, it turned out rather differently haha. It's weird too because the devs are british! But I know they have to make it cater to a wide audience and people will get annoyed at challenging tight bends in this style of game.

It was never not going to lag behind Forza Horizon. Literally every racing game is lagging behind Forza Horizon.

The only effect it would have on players is the online player base which doesn't matter as it is cross platform. It's like complaining about how small a tree is in a forest.

A large part of their player base is either very inexperienced with serious car racing games (compared with pure arcade) or likes picking S2 class hypercars for racing. Therefore most of the roads need to be able to be driven without much skill (either due to controller ineptness or vehicle speed ineptness).

If you just think about FH5's 35 million named players. Sure, maybe 5 million of those are going to be reasonably capable of driving smoothly with the controller. The rest, not so much...

And how are controls to you?
If you are driving with gamepad.
Assuming you have experience with GT series, where controls are great by default.
I can say that for me the Controls are very smilar.
Last weekend I played first FM and then I switched to GT7 and I couldn't make up any differences in Controls etc...

Nice then.
I had problems with steering in FM.
Now helped last slider to 30.

BTW, when will update be able to download?

I love to start my week by browsing some doom-and-gloom-posts 😉
If only had videos talking that the situation is not that bad...
but, sadly those dont give views unlike the videos that say that the Crew Motorfest is the destroyer of Forzas even if is overall worst than The Crew 2
What's wrong with steam?
Nothing with Steam itself
The problem is that FM was assumed from get-go that would have a bigger player number in Xbox than Steam, since PC have better racing options even if FM was the racing game that people wanted it had been

But people are using Steam numbers to imply that the game has falied when purposly forget that it would get better numbers in Xbox

In all metrics i had saw on Xbox, most of time it had a OK to Great launch, it had been on Top 50 in all major Xbox regions (it is still is in many) and above better games and in some even better than FH5

There are many reasons why Forza isn't going to do well on Steam. Motorsport especially has a large amount of competition on Steam (even if no PC circuit racer looks as good), whereas on Xbox there's only really ACC which comes close in terms of gameplay/graphics.

I would expect Xbox numbers to be ten(s of) times higher than Steam, without doubt.
Horizon too, of course.

Looks like the French twitter account posted the release notes early, a few notes I can see
  • Fixed the TA Challenger engine sound
  • Nerfed the Audi GT3?

no mention of replay's 😕

https://aka.ms/fmupdate4rn is the link to release notes but it's not live yet

Yes it has too much more out there on PC that Forza at the moment doesn't have the merit to pull you away from. I would take out the part where you say no PC circuit racer looks better. That's just not true at all. AC looks better. AMS2 looks better. ACC looks better. I had to use a mod just to take away the weird haze and washyness look and it still isn't that great. FM(2023) isn't even the best looking Forza by account of many people in this very thread saying this over and over again. However the point isn't just looks, right? AMS2 has the best single player features and AI in the Sim market at the moment. Forza, around the least amount of features.

Point being, at the moment, I would definitely not use Steam numbers to gauge any interaction with the game. We have stuff that has worked well and is feature rich for years. When I turn on my PC and I see the icon for AMS2 or Forza, which one do you think I click on?

Let's hope this update chips away at the cause though and continues to further FM's usability. I want to see it better. I paid for it.

That Filter + TAA smudge is the main reason for it too look back. It is compounded by weird RT Reflections (resolution?).

I know there aren't in game shots but look at these Artstation shots which have a better balance:

It's the new thing so it will attract interest.

Don't be too sure about Xbox numbers. The Xbox is very third place behind the PS5 and the Switch.

Only about a third of Xbox owners have Gold or GP.

Out of curiosity... Do you use HDR on the PC?

I obviously have AC, AMS2 and ACC on my PC. Of those only ACC supports HDR on PC, but in a quite limited manner. The combination of Forza's lighting model, HDR implementation and trackside object density and quality puts the overall visual experience comfortably ahead of all 3 for me. To be honest, if you play them back to back those three PC sims you mentioned look rather aged visually in comparison.

I also don't see the haze you are talking about, just a slightly different choice of colour. I assume you are talking about TAA effects, in which case ACC should also have them since it's also locked to TAA. AMS2 might benefit from not using TAA in comparison, but the tracks look lifeless and last gen.

In terms of features, obviously FM has significant differences from AC/ACC/AMS2 and a good sim racer will own all of them as well as Raceroom, rFactor 2, and have also played iRacing. Right now I find myself mostly racing FM and ACC because I am currently stuck with the Xbox controller and AC/AMS2 really need a wheel to be comfortable to drive unfortunately. Thankfully ACC Xbox controller settings can be tuned pretty well, but FM controls are clearly best.

I'm worried about other things too because the list of fixes that was shared here so far is very short. I still have the game randomly freezing on screen loads, such as skipping the practice cutscene. I also still have a game which out of nowhere cuts down to 30FPS from 60 and won't go back until a restart. It's unplayable for me like that and gives me a headache.
Are they fixing this stuff? I hope so. These are more important factors than the graphics are anyways because these force me to turn the game off and I don't turn it back on after that. :ouch:

Out of curiosity... Do you use HDR on the PC?
No I do not. I've tried both ways and just stuck without. It didn't fix anything that was of a concern when I tried it.

No I do not. I've tried both ways and just stuck without. It didn't fix anything that was of a concern when I tried it.
Could you describe what you see different from those shots, because they look pretty close to what I see when racing. In terms of colour, lighting, trackside objects I find them reasonable representations of what I see in game...

Strange about HDR. I've never seen any Xbox player state that they found HDR to be useless. I personally think it adds a lot to the experience, both on Xbox with a 4k TV and on PC with a high refresh HDR Gsync monitor.

EDIT: 8.1GB download on the PC

Daytona is nice to drive, but this track has high CPU utilization (unless the game changed and all tracks now use more CPU, not tested yet). I was getting lower fps than usual off the start finish line as a result.

Edit: Never mind, Yas Marina is giving me lower frame rates too... Something changed. Maybe I need to restart the game?

Edit2: Yas Marina is so much nicer now you don't have to avoid those curbs. <thumbs up>

Is it me or is Daytona quite different from FM7, mainly in the angle of the banking?
It might be a little less banked, but it's a small difference for me if any.

I do notice the huge changes to curbs (especially the bus stop, which is so fun now). And the infield is much more logical to drive with FM23 physics than FM7 physics for me at least. Those relatively sharp U shaped turns were terrible in FM7.
