After watching THAT Phil Spencer interview (haven't you? If you are an invested Xbox/Microsoft PC player IMO you definitively should), more than ever, FM has to be that game that turn things around for Microsoft. I'm not counting Starfield because that that started development way before being acquired, FM is from a native Microsoft studio game.

FM needs to be a technical/critical triumph at least, sales be damned, and has to use the potential of the X/S to the fullest, because to date, there is no exclusive Microsoft game that I feel accomplishes that, not even FH5. And it has to be a model for all other Microsoft- owned studios.
Phil said in that interview that even if Starfield was a perfect game, an "11/10", it wouldn't pull people towards Xbox, reason being that many people aren't going to switch platforms when all their digital purchase history is on one ecosystem.*

You can apply the same logic to Forza Motorsport, though it should ideally set an example of what the Series X is capable of, that alone won't "turn the tides of the console race" because (as Phil alludes to) that battle has already been settled.

*Personal example: I have no interest in getting a PS5 as the vast majority of my playtime over the past decade is on Xbox, as are my friends, Achievements, my Game Pass subscription etc.
There are a few PS5 titles that pique my interest (like
Gran Turismo 7), but half of them I can just watch on YouTube and the other half aren't compelling enough to spend £500 on.

Yes, I'm aware he basically has conceded that point, but that is not, and would not be an acceptable excuse to release a half-baked, bungled effort like Redfall. Regardless of sales/market position and GP strategy, Xbox has to commit to release excellent 1st party games under its brand, or otherwise just get out of the business (and there is no indication that they will). And there is a precedent with the release of FM5 that did no favors to the Xbox One, the business model of which that doomed the company to third place, again, as conceded too by Phil, so good luck FM Chris Isaki and the game development team, because you are it, like it or not.

P.D. And not another word about creating it "from the ground up", yes I'm a cranky Xboxer right now.

No developer wants to release a bad game, but sometimes it just happens.
I'm very aware of that too, and Redfall may become a case study for years to come. Because their self-inflicted dearth of exclusive titles, they just couldn't kill it rightaway (Sony does quietly snuffs studios and unreleased titles, mostly minor stuff, but still) and hoped to fix it later, à la Fallout 76, Cyberpunk 2077, etc., but maybe Redfall is even beyond that.

Anyways, FM, kiddo, you just can't be BAD, just can't, sorry about that.

Did anyone watch?
Any news?

Didn't listen to the entire motorsport segment (only a few minutes) but it seems to be covering the same ground as the accessibility video; they also have the guy from the video talking as well.

isn't hellblade 2 supposed to be q4
I dont know if is Hellblade but they gave many many hints that htere has games they had announced yet that may come out soon like HiFi was

What makes me annoyed from this entire situation that people only get the bad parts of both Forza and Xbox debate
For exemple, a thing that bothers me is that LITTERALY THEY FINSHED FORZA PART ON DEVELOPER_DIRECT TEASING THE ONLINE AND CARRER MODE EXPLANATION ON NEXT SHOWCASE, but everyone acts like that it just dont existed or never was mentioned on the first place, everyone brings back the the MX-5 or that stupid phrase like if they had not finshed all that presentation with "Dont worry guys, next showcase we will show the modes you are craving the most for, we are just finshing polishing those first beacuse we be sure to show them for you, We will see again in June",

if i had a dollar for every time someone that clearly or pretend never saw this and complains about they not showing career mode or the multiplayer i would had enough money to buy a hypercar at this point

I undestand the critiques to Forza and Xbox, both need to improve on stuffs a lot, but things arent that bad as people say they do, they hide things from debate and only show doom and gloom like the entire xbox division buldings would explode tomorrow

It still frustrates me to no end that the career mode was a single sentence, and a tease at that!! It is a good thing I didn't have a gtp acccount during the developer direct debacle, I was furious.

I was wondering what would happen if they went with the free to play route, I don't really think they have anything to lose by doing this. They could do it similarly to Halo Infinite, where you can play multiplayer for free but the campaign and cosmetics are paid content.

They will show it on showcase in June, i am sure it will be all about the modes online and all the stuff people want, they just need polish it a bit more

Even if they were trying do it, Halo Infinite and FM6 Apex fail may throw all this tatic into the trash, i am sure they will go back to traditional Forza route, and i do think it is the best, just had not put a numbered one beacuse they want this game to be a Long Term GAAS that they can update the game slowy until next generation or a later of gen Forza game like FM4/FM7 was

Is no battle pass stupidty that you need to buy each year to get new cars and no stupid monetization and gameplay sorely made for you expend even more money into the game like GT7 does

If they went this route, I wonder if the game is built in a way that they can make any major under-the-hood changes to it if necessary & thus, actively keep the game going 3-5+ years past release being supported with new content.

It's an idea I've seen floated for the series before (& for GT as well) to just build the game, and keep it going ala ETS or iRacing that are still running strong years down the line.

Game Pass is effectively the free to play model, you can see that with Forza Horizon 4 and 5 where they’re explicitly designed to encourage people to return, and thus continue their subscription.

Forza Motorsport 7 is from a different era for Microsoft, as it was one of the last “full purchase” titles where all of the value had to be delivered up front.

Although the Horizon games can be bought in this way too, it’s clear as day that the FOMO model was their focus as they are the poster children for Xbox Game Pass.

Time will tell if Forza Motorsport goes down a similar route, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they lean just as heavily on post-launch updates as Horizon do.

I don't want to argue who or what is right or better. But I think the Playlist is just an evolution of Forzathon introduced with FH3. You still had to play FH3 on specific weeks if you didn't want missing on some cars. And even in FM7 you had several occasion where you could win cars with special liveries or unique racing suits that were time limited.

And it's not something unique to Forza either. The most requested thing to being carried from the first Crew were the Summits. And I bet the next Crew will have Summits too. And the next Wreckfest will have daily, weekly and monthly activities too. And a similar thing is happening with GTSport and GT7. Free DLC being added regularly post launch.

So I wouldn't be surprised if the next FM will follow a similar path to Horizon simply because it's working. Players are spending considerably more time playing the same game. Being on Gamepass, EAplay, Ubisoft+, PS+ or not fans will always ask for new things to do and new cars to drive post launch.

FOMO or not, if the game is bad, boring or you feeling burned out you wont play it anyway.

PC3 has daily, weekly and monthly hot lap (1 flying lap) and pace setter (the average time of three clean laps) challenges and it's a quite engagine single player game mode aside from the campaign.

DiRT Rally 2.0 is keeping me plenty busy with its constant event updates.

I wonder if they will go GT Route with Weekly championships or like Seasons based on a system similar to iRacing, i like how they have different races each week that you can race as much you want and it counts for your ranking for the season overal

Whilst this is a "niche" vote as "casuals" wouldn't likely see this or vote on it, the results are not promising for FM...

Also, TDU SC does seem to have an audience if they can produce a half decent game.

The thing I like about TDU is they're giving us blogposts every once in a while to describe some of the game's features. Unlike a certain other game hmmmm.

Really? I havent seen much besides notices of the game being announced as a thing, rumors, it being delayed, and finally, more recently, some underwhelming photos in some aspects for a recent gen game. I'm waiting for this game as well, but we really havent heard much of anything from what I see, especially about features.

Neither of these games are doing much on that front.
